The only reason "Scalia" happened was because the writers couldn't let a season go by without Scott having a love interest. He just amused himself with her after leaving Kira in the desert to forget or to not have to think about Allison(s) (death) which Teen Wolf:the movie proved. Scott left her for a dead girl. Also Scott and Malia had 0 chemistry. I felt nothing watching them together. I really see nothing special with Malia and Scott. They were just weird and cringe and absolutely forced. Them not being together anymore was the only good thing about the movie. They should have made Stiles move on from his crush of Lydia (that he still cares a lot about her and she about him - but as a strong friendship) after seeing the insane chemistry Stiles and Malia have but instead they made the fan service for which they had to make them grow apart in season 5 and do the pathetic Stiles and Malia break up scene (what was that that wasn't even a real break up scene???) I never once saw Lydia look at Stiles with real love in her eyes like Malia looked at him.

That, coupled with the short time frame they had to develop their connection, meant that their relationship was rushed and lacked any emotional depth. They did have physical chemistry imo which is why their relationship works more as a rebound fling. Personally, I think Scott was a good alternative choice for Malia if she couldn’t have Stiles. Scott was the one who helped her transform back into a human and taught her to exercise control over her supernatural strength, he was an obvious second choice. I also really agree that Stiles’ feelings for Lydia should’ve remained a childish infatuation that he matured and moved on from when he experienced true love with Malia. It would’ve been far more relevant and relatable to the fanbase at the time to explore the theme of having unrequited feelings for someone who isn’t necessarily right for you, but eventually growing to realise that it doesn’t always work out the way you want and you have to just accept that and move on. It also would have been a lot more true to character bc it was so clear that Stiles isn’t even Lydia’s type, and that she liked the attention that she got from him far more than she ever actually liked him as a person. They just clearly weren’t compatible, and imo it completely ruined his character development to have him return to his childish, obsessive infatuation for someone who never saw him as a serious or worthy contender for her affections until he moved on with someone else.
I respect Stydia shippers. I mean most of my friends are obsessed with Stydia. But I personally don't like it. I think for me there needs to be a kind of a relationship development and etcetera. In my opinion the relationship started too suddenly. But I still think it's cute But I would always prefer Stalia. Their connection, chemistry love was something I always loved and looked forward too seeing in the future episodes. I was devastated when they kinda broke up.
