    Man I litterally just got my first Hank flashlight today (D4V2, antique brass, E21A 2700K), custom ordered the 7.5A driver and Anduril 2. I'm so glad I got the flashing kit as well, because this update is really amazing!
    I've been playing with the light for the past few hours, and I would love to get way lower levels, and that ramp lockout from ultra low. Will update tomorrow!
    Amazing video as usual, thanks for letting us know about this update in so much details! Waiting on your review of the DT8 as I'm now quite interested in this one as well! Your in-depth review of the D4V2 was really impressive!

  • @ToyKeeper

    For what it's worth, the jump-start intensity is configurable so instant activation should be possible on most lights. It just has a somewhat low default setting, to avoid producing a visible pulse.
    To configure it, use 9H from off in advanced mode, and then click several times at the menu to set a new value. I've found settings anywhere from 20 to 50 seem appropriate, depending on the light.

    • @ToyKeeper
      @ToyKeeper 3 года назад +3

      It's still sensitive to whatever the light was doing a moment earlier though, just due to how the power regulaton circuit works, so there can be some variability. The worst I've encountered is on a KR1 W1. It needs the ramp floor set to 2/150 because level 1 is completely off, and it needs a jump-start strength of 50... and even then, it still turns on a bit slow sometimes. However, all the others I've tried are more consistent.

    • @LuxWad
      @LuxWad  3 года назад +2

      Thanks for the info! I didn't realize it could be adjusted in the actual UI, I'll have to try it out now.
      As an aside, I didn't mention the fact that the activation is still pretty slow after Turbo has been used, but it doesn't seem like much of a practical issue considering there's no real reason to switch to moonlight immediately after turbo. My lights seem to stabilize quickly enough that it hasn't been noticeable in any usage.

    • @ToyKeeper
      @ToyKeeper 3 года назад +2

      @@LuxWad Yeah, definitely let me know if you can improve the timing with a different value, and how consistent (or inconsistent) the result is. It hasn't had a lot of testing yet. The current default is 21, and the lights I've personally measured needed values of 21, 29, 30, 35, and 50.
      I expect it'll still bottom out after turbo, but there isn't much I can do about that. However, as you say, that's kind of an uncommon corner case that people don't often do in practice.

    so the PFM basically makes the new 9amp CC driver act like the originally d4v2 and KR4 drivers low modes work? Nw i really need to buy the damn flashing cable. hope. can figure out how to flash some of the 22 emisar/noctigons i have lol.

    That looks heaps better, the low ramp speed on the first version was way too quick! Will all of Hank lights be shipping with the updated version of anduril 2 now?
    Both of mine have anduril 1 and I’m completely happy with it. I have no idea how to update these things are there any videos for a total noob?

    • @LuxWad
      @LuxWad  3 года назад +3

      Supposedly everything will be shipping with Anduril 2, but Hank isn't always shpipping the lastest firmwares in my experience, my D4V2s were quite out of date when I purchased them.
      You can specifically request a light that's using the latest firmware. If you buy from Jackson he's working on getting everything updated, you can also ask him for the latest firmware.
      In the description I linked a BLF thread describing the update process, it is a bit complex though. I want to make a video tutorial for it, but I haven't started work on that yet

    Hank just shipped my e17a and azure with anduril build from 2021 05 07 and I totally know what you mean by no granularity on low levels. I updated to 2021 12 13 and it’s MUCH better. I even slowed down the ramp speed.
    IMO you HAVE to do this because it was so irritating on low levels

    Amazing. I want to change all of my anduril lights to get rid of the delay when I turn the light off.

    • @LuxWad
      @LuxWad  2 года назад

      That would be nice, unfortunately that delay is necessary as the light has to wait to make sure you're pressing the button multiple times. For example, it helps to prevent the light turning off when you want to double-press for Turbo.

  • @Costinmusca
    @Costinmusca 3 года назад +1

    The first thing I always changed in my custom Anduril is removing that dang ramp after Moon from Off.. So stupidly annoying.. Can't wait to try this new PFM upgrade.. maybe I'll try it tonight or tomorrow :) Currently, in My Anduril, holding from Off would first go to Moon, wait there if still holding the button for about 2.5 ~ 3 seconds and then enter the "Emergency group" (in which the first mode is Beacon, then 2C to cycle to and back from the second mode, S.O.S.)

    Oh those are great updates! I might have to invest in the update hardware. Or I might just get another D4V2 with Cree LEDs this time. The SST-20s have been okay but they are not great color wise and I want something with the FET driver. Not going with an E21A with terrible battery life and linear driver.

    • @brokenlegz
      @brokenlegz 2 года назад +1

      Sst20 should already have a FET driver unless you specified a linear driver. E21a shouldn’t use much power because it’s FET that eats up power. But they are a bit dimmer. But much nicer looking.

    I have 2 D4V2 (TI and sand) both are 219B, both are 2021-08-13 firmware (15c). However only the TI has jump start. 9H doesn't do anything. I have a flashing kit on order. What should I flash to get jump start working?

    • @LuxWad
      @LuxWad  3 года назад +1

      2021-08-31.noctigon-kr4-nofet.hex has all of the latest features for the Nichia D4V2.
      KR4-219b should work as well (same features) but I've heard noFET is recommended for the D4 since it has less thermal mass. What your the model #? (After 15c there's a four-digit number that lets you know what build is being used)

    i just got a d4v2 in with andruil 2. While attempting to disable moonlight ramping after performing the 10h, there appears to only be 2 menu modes as after the 2nd, the light returns to ramping. why is this, or is there another way to disable moonlight ramping

    • @LuxWad
      @LuxWad  3 года назад

  • @victorvannatter312
    @victorvannatter312 Год назад

    A quick question about the update, and no ramp from Moonlight. So there is no way to increase brightness from Moonlight? That’s one of the best features of anduril. With memory, if you turn the light off on high, now there’s no way to go slightly brighter from moonlight except high. So you’d have to turn off from ML, then click on for whatever last mode was. That sounds awful. It’s the main reason I won’t buy a convoy s21e

    • @LuxWad
      @LuxWad  Год назад

      No, you can turn it on to moonlight from off, then press and hold again to ramp up from there like normal. Or you can just not use the moonlight lock.

    • @victorvannatter312
      @victorvannatter312 Год назад +1

      Ah ok. So it just stops it from advancing past moonlight from off. That’s actually a pretty good feature. The other light I mentioned can’t advance from moonlight. So you have to click off then on again. And it memorizes turbo. That wouldn’t be fun inside

    • @LuxWad
      @LuxWad  Год назад

      @victorvannatter312 yes, the new updates make it easier to stay on lower modes actually. You can even manually commit Moonlight to memory

    Luxwad. Came across your channel yesterday. After talking shit in a previous comment I must give you some props. Your reviews are top notch. So point me in the right direction.
    I want one of these emiser lights. Or are they big hank lights, or anduril lights? Either way, I am looking at the d4v2 or possibly one of those dt8. Questions. What the deal with the colored lens? I like bright lights but I am willing to try a 4000k light. I know nothing of these lights. I want one with a 18650 or possibly bigger, more mah battery. I want to keep it under $100 hopefully under $75. What should I get?

    • @LuxWad
      @LuxWad  3 года назад +2

      Lol, you can always feel free to point out flaws if you perceive any, it's important to keep reviewers accountable if they make mistakes after all.
      Emisar and Noctigon flashlights are designed by Hank Wang and sold at intl-outdoor.com (called "Hanklights" because the branding can be confusing). "Anduril" is an open source software developed for enthusiast lights, which can be found on many different flashlights which are generally oriented towards hobbyists. If you haven't seen my D4V2 and DT8 reviews, they're long but pretty much explain everything you need to know.
      The colored glow in the front of the lights is produced by the "aux lights", rgb secondary leds which can be configured in the interface.
      These lights use unprotected high-drain cells and are extremely powerful, which can make them somewhat dangerous so be warned. Batteries have to be purchased separately.
      I think the D4v2 is a good starting point for these lights, it starts @ $45 and goes up depending on options. The 4000K SST20 LEDS are no extra cost and often considered the best all rounders,the xpl-hi have better performance and are $10 more. The E21a LEDS in my titanium light are much dimmer but have excellent color rendering, the best you can get. Pretty much the same LEDS are available in all models.
      My top recommendation is for the D4SV2, which takes a 26650 battery and has a throwier beam. It's super nice and much more practical than the two shown here imo. It starts around $50. All these lights are also available in a dual-channel version with even more features.
      Alternatively, you can look at the Wurkkos TS21, another Anduril light with similar features, but includes a 21700 battery and has a charging port, for $35 or so. It's a great entry point to this type of light, highly recommended.
