    I had a book as a kid called 'the challenge of light tackle' all about how to use the lightest gear possible in the sea, I'd recommend it to anyone who feels drawn to a feeder rod over a beachcaster.

    Hi Douglas, as a newcomer to fishing, I have to say that I really do appreciate you explaining your methods and gear as you do. If can be quite bewildering otherwise 🙂
    My wife and I have just returned from a 1 week holiday in Argyll. I had my 1st try at lure fishing from Tighnabruaich pier, great fun and I actually caught a couple of Mackerel and a Codling. Great fun and now I'm well and truly hooked.
    All the best from York.

      Thanks Andy, glad to help mate and awesome feedback, it means a lot. It certainly can be bewildering, especially if there’s no members of the family with a fishing interest. As a beginner/newcomer to the sport, what sort of content would interest and help you or others in the future?

    • @andyaveyard

      Hi Douglas, purely from a personal perspective, it would be interesting to see what different types of fish could be targeted with limited gear. 🤔
      As an example, I have a 9' spinning rod and a 3000 reel, several lures and a couple of Mackerel feathers. I'd love to know which additional bits of kit, rigs, etc, would allow to target say, flatfish, or possibly some other variety of fish, but using the same rod and reel etc. Does that even make sense?😂

    • @PiscatorUK-Fishing
      @PiscatorUK-Fishing  2 месяца назад +1

      @@andyaveyard it makes perfect sense Andy. Someone new to the sport is less likely to want to commit to buying different rods and reels for different methods of fishing or species of fish. It’s a good idea for a video or short series.

    Eyup Douglas and thank you for another very helpful tutorial style video. I always look forward to your next post. I won't be fishing for sea trout where I am in Wales as I don't have a licence to do that but I plan to use the bombarda with flies and small lures to try to tempt shy Bass which I am very lucky to be able to catch here. Your comments about rod ring spacing when using braid gave me a bit of a head smacking moment to be honest. I like to use light tackle and I'll bear it in mind when selecting my next lure rod as I have started using very thin Tasline elite braid and line control is a significant consideration. Many thanks for sharing your experience so generously and I'll sithi after!

      Awesome comment and feedback Dave. Bass are amazing sport especially on light gear. I’d be more than happy to target bass if I couldn’t fish for sea trout mate. The rod guide thing with the braid be came more apparent to me with my course fishing, as I didn’t have the same problems that I had with my cheap lure/spinning rods. Tight lines mate🎣💪🏻

      @@PiscatorUK-Fishing Hi Douglas and thank you for your reply. I'm quite new to where I live and have found an amazing spot to fish lures but found myself wading very deep and 400m from shore with a large Bass hurtling around me. And no net. Oh dear. I managed after a fashion but I wonder if you might recommend a suitable net for wading that would handle Bass up to six or seven pounds. I've tried looking back through your videos to see how you use yours and it's pretty nifty. I don't mind spending a bit of cash - buy cheap buy twice? Perhaps this could be a subject to slip into a video. I'm pretty sure there are lots of people like myself who neglect the net bit until you find that you're a bit stuck without one. A very happy problem! Kind regards and tight lines.

      Savage gear also do a large and XL which is a slightly different design. In my experience with my net I wish I went for the d sign not so much for the size just that my one takes longer to dry out. I have attached a strong landing net magnet to the head of the net, the other end of the magnet is attached to a cheap fishing east coat for dry weather and I also have a clip on the back of my wading jacket for when it’s raining. I love that the net floats as the fish can happily recover while you sort out your gear or take time to snap a picture. Link below to the other design of net

    • @PiscatorUK-Fishing
      @PiscatorUK-Fishing  2 месяца назад +1

      Hi Swiggy, all the way to Thurso mate. They are probably in greater numbers close to larger rivers a that flow into the North Sea. Some areas within a mile of the mouth of a river may require a permit to target migratory fish, It’s worth checking with local tackle shops or the association that has the fishing rights to the river. Just to be on the safe side.

    • @PiscatorUK-Fishing
      @PiscatorUK-Fishing  2 месяца назад

      Thanks buddy. Most anglers associate a sea trout as a bar of silver which is a fresh fish from open water. Many anglers have all sorts of names for sea trout that are not pure silver. They can take on a darker colour/gold tinge for many reasons mostly because it’s maybe just returned from freshwater or has spent some time in the brackish estuary.

    Another excellent and formative video Douglas. Have you had any success with this method using a shrimp/prawn imitation and allowing it to bounce along the bottom? I would imagine that this might pick up flounder as well.

    • @PiscatorUK-Fishing
      @PiscatorUK-Fishing  2 месяца назад

      For sure David shrimp/prawn patterns can be deadly, often fished in lower lights dusk and dawn, also good early season when the water is much colder and fished a lot slower than bait fish patterns. Worm pattern imitating rag worm fished slow early season can be good. I’ve never had a flounder on the bombarda but there’s a first time for everything.

    You choose sinking over surface bombarda, what’s your reasoning Souglas?

    • @PiscatorUK-Fishing
      @PiscatorUK-Fishing  2 месяца назад +3

      Hi mate, the floating bombarda is usually a sort of white opaque colour. I prefer the all clear sinking, it’s more stealthy plus you can work the sinking bombarda a bit faster and it will come to the surface anyway, best of both worlds. Hope that helps mate👍

      @PiscatorUK-Fishing  2 месяца назад +1

      @@GaryWilson-c7g Hi Gary, the water was very clear. I think I did mention that when I was explaining when fish follow the fly/lure. The importance of clear water is the fish can see the lure easily and from much further away. Fishing in murky water if you catch a fish, is more luck in my opinion when lure fishing. I find the fish don’t feed the same in murky water. I tend not to lure fish when the clarity of the water is poor. Switching to a natural bait static or float is usually more productive due to the sent of the bait.

    • @GaryWilson-c7g

      @@PiscatorUK-Fishing Thank you so much for the explanation. Lincolnshire beaches and estuaries are very coloured due to mud and silt permanently in the water. I have tried your bombarda method several times this Summer and managed to catch 1 Horse Mackerel 😊

I would love to come back and fish there again…highlight of my holiday…btw,would you only recommend flies for fishing for sea trout,as I was chuffed with what I caught on small spinners?

    • @PiscatorUK-Fishing
      @PiscatorUK-Fishing  2 месяца назад

      @@angelaburke6303 Hi Angela, thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. So glad you enjoyed some of our sea loch fishing while you were on holiday. Im thrilled you got your first sea trout too. Using a fly as a lure is just something that is suited to this style of fishing. I would say lure fishing with spinners and Toby’s is probably the most common method for sea trout. Using baits like worms and little strips of mackerel float fishing is also very effective. Fly fishing with fly rod and reel is also popular and is the only method allowed in some sea lochs.
