Stuart is right about Bernie Sanders. Bernie has clear principles and agenda. Even before FOX audiences he is well received. He has been the most popular Senator for the past 16 years because he has integrity, honesty, and principles. Folks don't always agree with Bernie on every issue, but they respect that he is clear and principled. Bernie is trustworthy. Would that more politicians were like Bernie.

That's right. The ease with which Trump steamrolled the Republican primary field in 2016 proves that past Republican presidents (and VPs and advisors, as you mention) paved the way for Trump. He certainly didn't win the nomination of a valid, functional party.

Stevens has a marvelous mind. His analyses are always a unique blend of intellect and heart. It's curious to me that he doesn't appear as a guest on more shows; he invariably presents a vital perspective that no one else is articulating. Wonderful to see these two in conversation.

I agree wholeheartedly with Stuart on his two fundamental points: First, we need at least two poliltical parties in the country; and second, the ONLY way the Republican Party can be 'saved' is for it to be defeated again and again and again, until there's almost nothing left of the extreme malignant elements that now dominate it. They won't reform voluntarily.

Historically no matter how many parties there are in other countries the agenda has gone under the capital versus workers clash and parties coalesce around one or another.
The US is the only country I know of where both parties coalesce around capital, being the Democrats the ones who gravitate at the political 'center' and the GOP the most extreme far-right I've seen in a democratic society.
The thing that needs to happen is Ranked Choice Voting.
All of those "third parties," if they were actually about winning rather than crippling the party they claim to be most like, all of those third parties would be pushing for Ranked Choice Voting.
Instead, all of the third parties are just to erode peoples' confidence in democracy and thus destroy the country.
They were never about helping anyone at all.

In the building trades, any attempt at reconstruction and refurbishment must be preceded by a period of demolition.
And often, this "tear-out" phase is more extensive than first assumed. This is simply because, once exposed, the extent of hidden structural defect is often more extensive than first thought.
It's futile to just "scab" new building materials onto defective materials. And those investors that would engage in such practices risk criminal charges if caught.
So yes, metaphor aside -- the Republican party is past due for a thorough demo.
And some investors need to face charges .

Parliament was first devised with an opposition to balance the business of governing, to question the transactions of the business of state, to provide a forum in which all legitimate points of view could be expressed for the best outcome for all. By hearing not only the majority who are voted in, but to also represent the minority, so all can a have a representation on the floor. I actually agree with that. I remember thinking at the time that Newt’s brand of scorched earth rhetoric was bad for the Republican Party. When Trump showed up in 2016, I told anyone who would listen that he would destroy the party, and he has done a bang-up job of it.
