  • Today I continue working on the new LEGO city layout! I want to try accommodating a boatyard and train yard in this new city, as we have much more space. I also plan to incorporate some of my previous dioramas that weren't previously part of the city. I'll walk through my plans for developing this new city and some of my ideas for a potential layout. We also take a trip to the hardware store, where I find something that will come in handy while working on the LEGO city!

I like where this is going, but if I were you, I'd put the beach a baseplate back and create a bit more sea around it. It makes a beach pop out more when there's more water around it imo. It also creates more space for water activities.

Yes! Extend the water! I think if you treated it as an island more than a city, that would be awesome. Do water the whole way around, it doesn't need to take much space. Maybe just 8-10 studs on the outermost edge. Maybe a bay for the boat yard??? Then the extra tables for the mansion and stuff are their own little islands!

I would like to see you do one section of city in which the train track is established first and the city is built around the track ... and a second section of city in which the city is established first, and then some buildings are moved or modified to make the train track fit. In the real world, one or the other is usually in place first and has to be worked around. Might be interesting to have the track have some shives and bends in it to show that the city was there first.

For the island tables you were talking about you should have them as peninsulas on each end, one could be open water leading to your mansion island. The other end you could build a cool wrap around harbour or just a cool ocean front part of the downtown with ocean walking paths etc.

Love the city layout! My only suggestion is: I don’t think the train track should go right along the beach in front of the down town. I would turn it sooner and have it go thru down town
Also, under your mountain range, you should cut a slot in the table where your under table subway can come up onto the main table via a large ramp, so it’s all connected!

  • @screennamemissing
    @screennamemissing 3 месяца назад +2

Okay... hear me out.... This is a BIG BUILD suggestion (for a ways down the road).... but.... you've talked about having the mountains being in the middle of the display.... what if one of those mountains SURROUNDED* one of the Access Holes?! (possibly Top-Left in that digital layout?) You pop up and are met with 360° of UNDERGROUND/INSIDE THE MOUNTAIN scenes! (maybe a Volcano, so there's an excuse to leave the top open? xD)
    A few examples:
Barad Dur: from the outside you'd only see the tower, but from inside the mountain, you'd get to see all the interior details (likely customized/expanded for extra detail).
Snow White's Cottage: Cottage is in the main layout... go inside the mount to reveal THE SEVEN DWARF'S MINING OPERATION!
A hidden train station (an excuse to have the train run through the mountain; it would also work out perfect with the train layout you have digitally)
*You could customize a trap/access door, or maybe removable modules to allow access to the surrounding area. This way you're not completely taking away the access holes use.

You should push the beach and water front back a half bp or a full bp itll give you room for the boat yard and make the beach look bigger. Yeah itll be alot of water work but ill give the effect that theres more water goin off the edge of the table plus like i said itll give you more room for boats. Also i wouldnt make your mountain that big and if you were to make it that big dont make it such a rectangle. Make it a more natural shape ie. A square or l shape just something not so square

Epic Lego table time! Look at that river baseplate! Auction that on Whatnot. Love those knee wheels! I have a set, so useful. For a second table, you have enough space for a 120+ square foot (10'x12') table along with 2 smaller "island" tables. With the medieval stuff on a secondary table, you have space on the main table for an expanded theme park & zoo (which looks so small now!), and still have the mansion on its own island table. You will want that extra space for farmland, countryside mountain, and more residential. Cheers!

All I would suggest is you’ve done the city and got the memories, do you really want to just make a larger version? Don’t take this wrong but I would personally have a separate smaller area of these shop bought Lego buildings and for the new tables I would build everything from scratch as custom MOCs. You can have hills and rivers and forests and castles all at different elevations. I think you would feel better having an organically growing “city” than if you were to go back down the route of a grid like system of official sets. After all you seem much happier and prouder of the areas you’ve built from scratch.
A small area of buildings is fine but after watching your vids for a couple of years now and seen your building skills get more intricate I would say that your new project should be an evolution rather than just a bigger version of what’s gone before. Plus those road plates take up so much valuable space and we all love a pretty landscape scene 😅

Someone else said it but I think a smaller mountain range near the garage door would look better than giant blob down the middle. Keep up the good work though.

It's so cool to see the lego city up and running again. I've been waiting a long time for that. I'm super excited to see what you come up with.

Very nice to make a plan to move forward. Planning the layout is way smarter before building out such a large space. 830 Baseplates! Holy Cow! Awesome to see the Creeper. That should do wonders for you getting under the tables.

As the beachfront is (currently) sitting directed the large unused space putting a table there could be a great space to build fantasy worlds. Fantasy worlds at 'undiscovered islands' in the ocean. A way to let the full creativity go at work no matter if it's fitting into a city or not. A bit the same way you had the mansion and ski hill at a different diorama as it didn't fully fit the city then.

I know all your pirate ships are on the shelves, but it would be cool if your boat yard had at least one one display as a little tourist spot in the boat yard next to a MOC battleship or something.

Looking good. Sounds like a solid plan to get things moving. If you're going to run a train line through the mountain you could hide a couple of sidings underneath for additional storage too. A riverwalk along the front of the downtown area is pretty common in a lot of real cities and should work really well here. Doesn't need any sand in that area either so it can be very space efficient. This will be fun to watch develop.

You have to fix the windows in the brick bank.
I can recommend an extra flesh colored floor in the Boutique Hotel. I have done it with my own and it has just transformed the building.

Love to see the lego city content coming back. I got an idea for you : you could do lower table in front off the water area and make a underwater scene. You could top it off with a plexiglass and transparent blue piece and wave.

Having a lot of fun following you the process! I would place the train yard underneath the mountains however, it kinda takes up a lot of space. And it would be great to maybe attach some black curtains to wrap underneath the tables and hide the underside.

Absolutely love how this is going and so excited for the future one thing I could recommend is putting the residential area in the green space behind the beach I feel it would a lot better than being behind the tall skyscrapers
