Karen was the greatest female vocalist that I've ever heard, and Richard was a musical genius. His arrangements perfectly accentuated her heavenly voice.

Well said. I could not agree more. I love Karen's voice but I agree that Richard was able to help her reach the status that she reached.

If I may blow your minds one more time. Karen walked in to the studio and sang this song in one live take. Nice reaction you two, RNB

Recorded in one take, reading the lyrics off a napkin and 21 years old! the most beautiful, warm, rich, intimate moving, pure female voice of love and romance songs ever....

Your reaction, as usual, was spot on. Karen Carpenter was one of a kind. I love the unique way she sayings. She’s always very soft on the high notes, but then again, it’s very strong and opens up on the lowest notes. Most people do the opposites.

I grew up with the Carpenters' music. Karen was one of a kind. There will never be another like her. She had such a pure calming voice. And she was a terrific drummer. That was her passion even more than singing. Sadly we lost her so young. Thankfully we have her legacy left in her music. The Carpenters had so many great songs such as "We've Only Just Begun", "Rainy Days & Mondays", "For All We Know", "Goodbye To Love", "Top Of The World", "Sing", "Yesterday Once More", "I Won't Last A Day Without You", "Please Mr. Postman", "Only Yesterday", "There's A Kind Of Hush (All Over the World)", "I Need To Be In Love" & so many more.

Karen Carpenter was an Angel 😇 sent from Heaven and left us way too soon! One of the most beautiful voices ever heard! The compositions are the direct result of her brother Richard Carpenter who really played to Karen’s strengths as a singer! I LOVE ❤️ the music of The Carpenters! RIP Karen!

Madonna notes her as a major influence also Debbie Harry (Blondie), Chrissie Hynde (Pretenders). Paul McCartney and Elton John considered her one of the greatest voices of all time. Karen Carpenter equals WOW. One of the top drummers all time' Enjoy the rabbit hole. 15 #1's on the contemporary charts in 14 years. #1 selling american group in the 70's.

Thank you for your reaction to this Carpenters video. They were very popular in the 70s, especially early 70s. Sadly, Karen had a sad life and died at age of 32: March 02, 1950 - Feb 04, 1983. Her brother Richard is still doing music today. Please react to their song, "A Place to Hideaway" - Thank you.

Karen is the voice. Im on my late 60s, so remember Carpenters very well on the radio and TV specials. KC had a haunting timber in all her songs. Did you know every female harmony in all of her songs was hers as well, sang, then dubbed into the song by Richard ? She began, with her brother Richard, by playing drums. Richard, her brother, was a terrific arranger but KC's voice was discovered by Herb Alpert, A&M Records, in 1969, which began their road to fame. Richard convinced her that her best singing voice was contralto, 'the money is in the basement'. I believe KC's, voice, especially contralto, was the best, beautiful, female voice ever. No auto-tune, stripping, gimmicks, or screaming. Her nickname was 'one take', since she always sang a song once in studio without a single re-take. She sang to you with haunting, mesmerizing emotion, perfect pitch and enunciation. Her voice compelled you to listen. She had no professional voice training. Paul McCartney said she sang Ticket To Ride better than the Beatles, and "she had the most angelic voice I have ever heard". John Lennon told her at an LA restaurant "you have a fabulous voice luv". They were most successful in early/mid1970s when she/they received 4 grammys. She was also recognized by 1975 Playboy poll as rock drummer of the year. Check other songs such as 'Solitaire', 'Only Yesterday', 'Hideaway', 'Rainy Days and Mondays',' 'This Masquerade', 'I Can Dream Cant I'(a big band era song), 'Hurting Each Other', 'Close To You', 'A Song For You' , ' I Need To Be In Love', 'We've Only Just Begun',' Goodbye To Love', etc.. She had a few friends including Petula Clark, Olivia Newton John and Dionne Warwick. She had anorexia with a serious onset in 1975 that continued the rest of her life. Married a guy in 1982 that was broke, didn't tell her he had a vasectomy, and mistreated her. Never knew true love. She died Feb 1983 at 32yo due to complications from anorexia. Her solo album was released some years after her death. [Some info contained herein came from documentaries such as, "Only Yesterday"]

It's a testament to karen and her brother Richard's music still resonates 1/2 a century later. Karen can hit those low registers with that sultry voice and each lyric is clear and crisp.
Thousands of couples in the 1970's got married to "we've only just begun." Give it and 'Rainy days and Mondays" a listen.

As someone who grew up listening to Carpenters as they were happening. I’m enjoying watching reactors discovering them and Karen’s voice. There’s so much more to discover and I’ll lead you to your next song, I hope. It’s; Rainy Days and Mondays, it’s called “the official version” on RUclips. It starts with a picture slide show but fades in to Karen singing and… welcome to the rabbit hole it’s a joyous place to be. A little sad too as you’ve learned she passed at 32, way to young from a heart attack brought on by Anorexia Nervosa. It was 40 years ago this past February. When she died no one really knew what that was. She taught us all what it was.
