Clara Lieu was an Adjunct Professor at the Rhode Island School of Design from 2007-2020. Her artwork has been exhibited at the International Print Center NY, the Currier Museum, Childs Gallery, the Davis Museum, and more. Lieu received an artist fellowship from the MA Cultural Council, has written for the NY Times, and lectured at Brown University, the NAEA conference, and in Vancouver & China. She has been profiled in Artsy, Hyperallergic, KPCC, & WBUR.

This was such a fun video!
When I was a teenager I was super into pen pals. American Greetings, the card company, had this display (in the 90's) where you could tear off a card and mail it in requesting a pen pal. Every time I went to the drug store with my mom I got a new one as long as the display was up 😅 I had pen pals from Italy, Spain, Ghana.
I think I would love to get involved with mail art!

When I worked at a community center, one of our employees (who was also a marine biologist) received a package of live bees in the mail--no kidding. He was populating his bee hives (which he used for honey). For some reason he had it sent to his work place!

Current Mail Art Call NOW. Deadline Dec15, 2020. envelopes are not opened, no jury, no theme, exhibition. Send to: Mail Art - P.O Box 46 - Lake Worth Beach fl. 33460. Memb. Of IUOMA Last call I did was for our towns Centennial. All are now in our Museum.
I disagree that it doesn't matter now because my art mail group did postcards with all kinds of political signage and statements and they go through the mail and people see them and I think that matters. I also think it supports the postal service which right now has been at risk and needs as much support as possible.
That's a really great point! I think we've reached a point in society where mailing letters and postage has become a sort of "niche" activity, in a way. That could make the idea of mail art even more special, if you think about it :) - Mia Rozear, Art Prof Staff
Regarding political signage, I think that's fair, and there are plenty of mail artists who have used that method to their community's benefit. To clarify, I think the act of the correspondence in and of itself between members of international mail art networks is a far more political and subversive action than making art with political imagery.
