Fatima Payman says she "would cross the floor" again but doesn't intend on leaving Labor

  • Senator Fatima Payman says she has no plans to leave the Labor party, despite breaking ranks and crossing the floor during a vote on Palestinian statehood.
    Payman became the first Labor senator to cross the floor in almost two decades, voting for a Greens motion on the recognition of a Palestinian state on Tuesday.
    Under internal rules, Labor MPs cannot cross the floor and vote against the party's policy positions. Payman was suspended from caucus for a week over the move, following a "stern but fair" call with the prime minister.
    Despite facing possible expulsion, Payman clarified she had no desire to leave the Labor Party when asked if she would quit the caucus.
