I noticed Matisse is probably the most beloved by Koreans these days. Literally 9 out of 10 cafes, they hang matisse’s posters not even knowing whose works they are…that made me realize Matisse must be a true pioneer.. I wonder what would he say if he travels here and found the images of his paintings everywhere 😂
This is one of my favorites. An intimate picture of his everyday items..and when he realized he would become sicker and sicker, he furiously cut out these beautiful shapes he even drew using a long pointer with a pencil attached. He was so COOL. Right down to his little beret.
This video is narrated in such a nice and informative way. I am a big fan of Matisse's work and I have always admired him. Even when he got bedridden, he was surrounding himself with art and that can teach us a lesson that art can keep us sane. I, however, do not understand how people used to burn, tear up and destroy art. Now they are exhibits that shape our present and future.
Fascinating analysis-in a postmodern world where we are inundated w/chaos, cacophony, and encounter day-in-and-day-out the flat affect of impersonal digital communication-it is an absolute DELIGHT to visit Matisse’s colorful interior world for a few minutes…to remember how truth and beauty can feel, and that a broad-spectrum creative universe still exists beyond the ennui of the day. ❤️🌬🎨🖌🧑🏼🎨💭🖼
Thank you to MOMA for this--the people who cannot get there in person , like myself, appreciate this-I appreciate the effort and the result so very much! Please help the art to keep reaching so many more people than can come there-although I have known people living there who go almost every other weekend, I cannot make it-and it is important-so important. Who and what would we be without art? Vital!
1. The lines of the furniture are just the ENVIRONMENT that is not so important but does have a function. 2. Artwork around is Matisse's TALENT (and imagination) with its fruits. 3. And the RED colour represents PASSION. It is present everywhere. It is overwhelming surrounding. Up, down, left and right. In front of you too! Without passion, art or anything in life that ticks you never ever happens. Never. And this is an art studio, that is the life itself of the artist/protagonist. Mattise's LIFE. Life in itself, if you wish, is packed with good or bad environment(s), with talent or no talent, with passion or no passion ... and anything in between. We got it or we do not. This is my 2 cents on my favourite RED and oh-so PASSIONATE painting. :)
Henri is my favorite artist. in Notes of a Painter in 1908 he writes: "What i dream of is an art of balance, of purity and serenity." Laughably ironic that 'art students' burned copies of his paintings.
One of my all-time favorite works of art by one of the three greatest artists of the 20th century. Maybe he’s the best followed by Picasso & Marcel Duchamp.
4'33 the reference photo says "students burning futurist art" and as I know futurist art is often related to Fascism, which was probably why they burned them, rather than people didn't like or accept Matisse's art.
Really enjoyed this and as others have mentioned the narration is terrific here so kudos to the team that got that person in place. Thanks Moma: As always,Love. J.B.
what about the works of Picasso who in 1906 painted The Harem in full pink/red? Or Horse with a youth in blue saturated in orange and dated 1905-1906? What relationship can be established between these works, which precede Matisse's The red studio by 5 or 6 years? Carlos Vargas
I can't remember who it was, but do I recall a art critic who visited the studio this work was created in. After coming in from the very green garden on a bright day noted that the white walls appeared pink.
.Can you see what Rothko saw? The genesis blue print to Rothko’s style Resides in the “Red Studio” painting. Sincerely, “Good day Sir!”~Jean Wilder as Willy Wonka .
I’m sorry but even masters mess up. This is Matisse’s. But I’m biased. I believe modern art is Lazy art. I have 372 oil paintings in 4 homes. The most modern I have is impressionist. If you can’t tell what your looking at why have it. Some say “it makes me feel…” I saw a dog turd and it made me feel….nauseous. Is it art? NO!!!

Really enjoy these mini-documentaries on individual paintings. Thank you!

The Red Studio is a great documentary of a profound and original painting.

I was going to say the same thing... the timbre and elocution of her voice kept me engaged !
I’ve never seen an image of Matisse’s studio with his cutouts on the walls! Remarkable! Thank you, MOMA 👏🏽👏🏼👏🥰

Fasinating story of a painting and it's journey.
This is one of my favorite paintings! I am excited to hear this analysis.

This era of Matisse was a insurmountable inspiration for Rothko’s color-fields.
Obra admirada, amada.Verla en el MOMA varias veces fue un regalo inolvidable.Celebrada siempre, desde Caracas,Venezuela.
Beautifully done video. Thank you.
Stunning presentation and film - would love to see more like this. I hope to get to see the exhibit!

I really love this narrator
Hello from the UK... thank you, that was quite lovely!
Great job. Just the right length. Hit the spot.
So beautiful
I like his work a lot, he inspires me.
Its insane how the greats are treated by the masses of their period.
The red studio was printed in Time Millennium...he created incredible beauties..amazing..
Great introduction to this painting, thank you
Just saw this for the first time (from reading a NYT article about the work a couple days ago).
Fabulous. Thank you.
Utterly enchanting.
Loved it.

Video was so well done. Thank you!
Il testo è chiaro ed interessante , il video è un' opera d'arte .
Great video! I still don't understand this art work, but it's good to learn art history. Thank you!
I really like The Red Studio and this video has made me get to know Henri Matisse better and more than before.
That was truly delightful. Thank you!
That painting has such a great story, and this video told that story perfectly. Thanks for making and uploading the video, I learned a lot from it.

What a fantastic video! Thank you so much. It made my day!
Enjoyed immensely ❤

Lovely! Thank you.
That's not just "people" in the photo at 5:38 , that's H.G. Wells!
... & I think he's next to Margaret Sanger.
Well done!
Very well done video--engaging and informative.
❤ This video is so neat ❤
Lovely Art and story
Thank you for sharing
👍😊
wonderful video, very informative and engaging! thank you:)
loooove this Video. Matisse.
It doesn't appeal to me on any level. It's greatest fame/appeal is that it was rejected so many times! Really like all of your videos.
It's cool that this eventually became the inspiration for Rothko to create his Seagram Murals, which eventually led to his suicide.
Brilliant!
I love this

❤️
Rothko bled out in his studio,...
and many years before Mark Rothko’s
fame he wept while standing in front of
the “red studio” painting by Matisse.
♥️
I love youtube
Gorgeous! Let’s connect?
I should have bought Matisse's if I was born in 1930's.

Eh, I don't think his paintings are that good. They're alright.
ESTE VIDEO NO TIENE LEYENDAS EN CASTELLANO NI EN PORTUGUES ASI NO FUNCIONA
goo piece of propaganda to jack up the paintings importance
Well explained. Grazi
