"vikings" is no historical term. when somebody says vikings he refers to northmen but actually the term viking was another word for going to trade bc "the vikings" were mostly traders (not only from scandinavia but also from russia and eastern european countries) and not violent murderers as popculture often portrays them.(of course they also raided but like i said they were mostly traders)
