    When the family of George Newton (Charles Grodin) decides to adopt a cute St. Bernard puppy, the patriarch soon feels displaced by the dog. Before long, the adorable canine, dubbed Beethoven, has grown considerably, leading to household mishaps. While George's wife and kids dote on Beethoven, it takes time for him to see the pooch's finer qualities. However, Beethoven's life with the Newton family is jeopardized when a scheming vet (Dean Jones) tries to nab the dog for a deadly experiment.

    Please appreciate these moments with your St. Bernards. My big girl passed away when she was 10 and I was 16. I grew up with her and many happy childhood memories are associated with her. I remember little kids shouting "Look, Beethoven!" all the time they saw my dog - they loved her almost as much as I do.
    Now I'm 26. Pain and sorrow are still with me, deep down in my soul. But I'm happy that she was part of my life.

      Even in the clip he cleans up after him, gives him his house in the backyard, walks him in the rain and he is the one pulling him on the bike.
      George doesn't even hate Beethoven he just understands the responsibility of taking care of a pet and would just rather Beethoven be calmer

    A little funny anecdote from my youth; I went to the local movie rental store for the first time alone, and I kindly brought the VHS case of this movie to the counter and the clerk put the actual VHS tape into it, and handed it down to the two hands stretching up above the desk.
    On my way home I crossed the street to purchase some candies for the spare change.
    Back home I had to fast rewind the movie of course, this is where I should have paid more attention to what was going on up on the TV, but I didn't, all I had my eyes on was the candy and the sugary drink I had on the living room table.
    After pressing play I think it must've taken me some 40-50 minutes into the movie to realize that the clerk put the wrong tape into the case. What I had been watching was JAWS, or JAWS 2, I cannot remember. But I remember being VERY confused about when the actual dog is supposed to show up. I wasn't particularly scared, but I experienced this sensation of peeking into the adults world. From then on I knew that there are so many things I have yet to experience when I grow up, but for now - maybe I will do just fine with Beethoven, or Mickey mouse..

    I was 2 years old when this movie came out every since then I feel in love with St Benards I've always wanted one. But living in a small state like Vermont they are rare to come across. So rare in fact I'm 31 now only just saw my first at a gas station a few weeks ago. I got to pet her a 150 lbs girl named bella. It was a dream come true so I thought well 2 days later my father surprises me with my own St Benerd puppy we are getting tomorrow 29 years since first watching this falling in love I am finally getting my very own. 🐶 as I write this comment and tears trickles from my eyes thank you Beethoven for getting me through my childhood and for making me never stop loving your breed and I can't wait to watch your movies over again with my puppy.

    Beethoven : Halt ! Before you do some random form of animal abuse on me.

    I watched this film when I was just a child. This scene always put me off with the mess in the ending. How can the WHOLE family minus George be so stupid enough to not discipline and take responsibility for the dog? My middle sister may want one, but I don't.

    • @angief6364
      @angief6364 4 года назад +9

      I think they knew it, they didn't make the eye blind of it. Maybe Beethoven's mischief and misbehaviour with George was their way to express their frustrations about his neat and control tendencies, which they can't express directly to him.
      Also they say "yes, we are going to take responsability", but in the end, they are children who only think in having the good things and leaving what they don't like to the parents.
      Children, as well as some co-owners, don't totally get it until the dog ruins something really personal and important to them.
      What is incredible is that Beethoven was giving just a bad time to George while with the rest of the family he didn't seemed to cause problems. Eg, chew and destroy toys of the little girl, eat homeworks, ruin the teenager's clothes for a date, the boy's glasses, something just the mother values (a marriage present???), urinating or defecaiting in their own rooms, etc.
      They didn't understand it nor get it until they listened their parents' argument when the father said Beethoven should go. They got it that the next day they decided to take all responsability (although it was in part for gratitude), and when the puppies arrived.
