Labelling people who don't want children being indoctrinated a suicide cult as "phones" is dismissive, patronizing, and closed minded.
People don't want their kids consuming media engineered to require their brains. In the case of earthspark, our children are being confused into thinking there are more than two human sexes.
You can't look at earthspark alone and ignore the greater context. The reality is that real life children are being mutilated and chemically castrated by renegade psychologists, endocrinologists, and surgeons who are making a fortune sterilizing children for life.
If you're going to ignore the fact that doctors are cutting off penises, healthy breast tissue, forearm skin, and rectal colon tissue, then you have no business calling anyone a "phobe" just because they have a problem with minors being indoctrinated into this death cult of sexual hedonism with a 41% suicide rate.
Allowing your children to watch this show is the same as giving your child a revolver with 2 bullets and telling them to play roulette.

One of the things I love about the Transformers franchise (besides the nostalgia and the crippling addiction to cool toys) is it’s willingness to try new things. While it doesn’t always land, we can always expect something new with each iteration.
25:21 overcoming a hatred of the transformers was also a major part of Kicker’s arc in Energon and one of the better avenues for his character
On the note of the Prime mention. It'd be really nice to maybe see you give your perspective either on that series or any number of Transformers media. The way in which you present your thoughts is equal parts insightful and entertaining. I love that you don't hold back on what you don't like but are also willing to praise what you do and go against the grain when you feel it's necessary. You've always joked that you have shit opinions but frankly I'd say it's more you have very intriguing ones.
TFP had a *lot* of potential. Sadly, budgetary constraints did a lot of damage to how it could have gone. [Looking at you, Predacon movie and season 2.] >> They had a *perfect* Starscream Redemption arc hook in season two that the series would have been *far richer and better* for, but budgetary constraints made them backpedal. I am *mad to this day* about how he was handled in Predacons Rising.
"Theme" doesn't have to refer to societal/political critique and parallels; a better term for that is allegory. Several of the shows you discredit for lacking in "theme" actually showcase numerous themes and thematic ideas but instead lack a direct allegory (or at least one you want to talk about).
I'm not saying this to, like, discredit the video out of a hatred for Earthspark or something (haven't watched it cause I don't watch much and was just curious about the video), but just to correct a mistake that seems to get more common. People really don't know what allegory means in my experience. Maybe even me, idk. It can make conversations confusing when people use a single term for several distinct things.
My only concern for this show is that I hope it’s able to introduce more characters as time goes on and isn’t too noticeably limited in cast size because of model budget like Beast Wars and Prime were
I concur. But I do also hope that the show does get better in season 2. Season 1 was alright with good moments sprinkled in but it could have been so much better.

My assumption for Earthspark in Legacy is that the show’s characters will become available for the Legacy treatment once the show has ended so Hasbro isn’t competing with itself with simultaneous Legacy and show line releases
I would love to see it we are in desperate need of a voyager fem seeker mold for Skywarp and Nova Storm, and Hashtag and Jawbreaker could honestly use better figures. Mainline Earthspark Twitch, Thrash, and Nightshade are great though. Also the Tarantulas and Megatron designs would be fantastic to see in Legacy.
This is the show I wished I had as a kid. I hated not understanding this feeling in me. NB people deserve to be noticed. I literally burst into tears when that was shown.
Also I have also noticed some people don’t like that Megatron being good and didn’t even make it past the third episode. War(zone?) was suuuch a yummy episode and my top favorite!

I grew up in the south, down in Florida despite having been born in Pennsylvania, far north, (this probably means nothing ro you since you live in Australia) but Florida is one of the most conservative places here in the states. I'm a queer Pansexual male whos been thinking about changing gender and my parents are both very republican, racist, homophobic, transphobic people. They raised me and my brother to believe the same, if it weren't for the access I had to the internet.
I fear I would've fallen down the same rabbithole of hate and predajuice.

I am more pissed at how they took the hook from Partners that could have taken Starscream's character in a completely different, unusual, and unexpected direction and backpedaled on it due to not having the budget for a fourth season.
Finally someone who doesn't treat nightshade like a war crime. And actually looks past that and onto the real thing.
For me, the entire show keeps making lines towards acceptance and understanding one's own identity. I loved Nightshade, but I resonated more with Jawbreaker trying to find their alt mode. It was a journey to self identity that seems to speak more to the heart of Transformers and modern humans. Finding how to represent yourself. Which leads perfectly into Nightshade in the next episode.
Identity is a two way street. Your identity isn't how you feel inside. Your identity is who you are, and how everyone else perceives you. If you have some imaginary identity inside, that's called insanity.
This video was so well constructed, and well spoken, maybe your best work yet.

When I heard how those phobes say "Why are you showing them gender stuff to a seven year old since it will just confuse and distress them!?"... I came up with this following response: "Should we teach kids about the concept of death as 7 year olds?". Death is distressing. I was in the 3rd grade when my maternal grandma died, I had to first hand learn about the concept of death (I had both grandfathers pass even before that but I wasn't old enough to understand the concept yet), and it caused me to have a lot of trauma back then.
I say this because life does have distressing and confusing moments. To sugarcoat life as sunshine and rainbows will make children unable to understand sadness or pain. If you don't understand distress, can you really be safe from it, avoid mentally shutting down or even self harm since you have no way to cope?
Gender is a similar eternal concept, we cannot avoid it, and people can get hurt if they do not understand it (whether it be their own gender or the gender of others). People who want to bury knowledge of gender expression are basically saying they don't want kids to handle and cope with distress in their lives, which can lead to them getting harmed anyways. Life is not about innocence, it is learning and understanding, to cope with one's own existence in the world and make the best of it.
I agrre with this, I appiles to some many things. Kids will encounter wether we like or not, I feel it better that we teach them first before they have teach them selves.
You know what really sucks. When this show gets cancelled everyone is gonna blame Nightshade. Which is BS because the main reason it failed was because outside of the terran figs and the takara offerings the toyline sucked. Constant Cyberverse repaints, those terrible finger puppets, Earthspark Prowl (that figure is literally everything wrong with the line)and the fact there are barely any decepticons in the line.
Thank you so much for this video, honestly. As someone who identifies as nonbinary myself, Nightshade has been such a huge point of connection for me in the show, and it's mind boggling to see so many people get so angry over the 5 second clip about pronouns without even watching the actual show at all.
I didn't know Hasbro were so supportive of the whole thing, that's actually really nice! I feel it's easy to assume these kinds of shows being inclusive come about through writers pushing against the higher ups, so it's a massive breath of fresh air to hear that Hasbro are *that* on board with the whole thing. It makes me feel even more confident that I stumbled into the best possible brand-based community I could have 💙
I genuinely love Earthspark and I think it's a great show! I love all of the characters and their character development, I honestly can't wait for season 2!!

And as an owl man, i approve of Nightshade. I absolutely adored them whenever they were on screen, especially as either in their owl mode or being a nerd with their new inventions. I do agree that their introduction as an enby character couldve been handled a little bit better but other than that, i really love them. Something i wished you talked about more was their relationship with Tarantulus but i guess that could be a topic for a future video.

Earthspark is unique in almost every way ! Story, characters, themes... this show is great in my opinion. The animation is really good for a TV show and the choerography of the fights is great. The plot is interesting with lots of cool arcs for the characters and the show isn't afraid of treating pretty mature and somewhat complex theme, even if it is targeted at a younger demographic. Sure it has its flaws but everything really.
Right? They tackled Grimlock having PSTD or Starscream suffering from trauma after getting shat on by Megatron for millenia with a lot of seriousness.
@@UncleAsmos2005 While I wasnt a massive fan of the delivery of Keith David's voice, (his voice better suits Tarn IMO) Earthspark Grimlock had such an interesting story and I really respected that Earthspark was willing to give a lot of social issues and personal issues people face in the everyday to light, I really haven't seen that in the Transformers beyond IDW, and while not perfect, I really respect the direction and like care they took in handling these COMPLEX issues.
This show hit really hard for me as someone who does identify as a Trans Women. Really great watch :)
Also another plus for Hasbro is not long after Earthspark, they introduced the first official Lesbian power rangers couple and didn't shy away from this fact

You know, I'm glad another Transformers Fan besides Kurmatz talks good on Earthspark. The show gets shit on just because of one character and "INDOCTRINATION OF CHILDREN", but to me, serves to humanize NBs against the never ending hordes of Culture Warriors. Either from the Right or Left themselves. It's basically saying "Hey, we're just like you, just call me this."
The show has deeper things to talk about too. It teaches kids about PSTD, Toxic Relationships (not exclusively romantic ones), responsibility and accountability. I swear Grimlock and Jawbreaker's episode specially is pretty emotional besides JB's childish nature. Everyone but Jawbraker saw Grimlock as a monster in the last part of that episode and walked on eggshells around him, or we're not putting lethal force out of the table.
TJ omega has also been very positive on Earthspark and made a video titled “there is nothing wrong with Nightshade” if you’d like to see another currently prominent transformers RUclipsr tackle the subject and give the show the praise it deserves

This was beautifully done man. Kudos for writing such a comprehensive and well-written breakdown of everything going on here. If I ever come across the means of watching this show, I’m gonna have to give it a shot.
I just have one extremely superficial issue with the show’s presentation: the sister main character’s model looks like she’s from a different show. Her head is like as big as her brother’s torso and her eyes are like the size of his fists. Throws me off every time I see her lol.
I was disappointed for me story-wise with earthspark. While the concept of earthborn transformers and IDW's redemption of Meg's are very interesting, they didn't work for me in this type of show. Some parts were good, and Megatron was gold, I just didn't really like the terans, mostly because the designs are a bit too "made for toys." Although the Grimlock in the show is near perfection and Keith David should be Grim's permanent actor. Hopefully S2 willl change my opinion.

That your job as parent, maybe check what your kids are watching, see what they are doing on the internet what they are learning in school. I loved earthspark, my mom literally got paramount plus for a month just so I could watch it and I’m so happy I got the chance to see it. All the characters are amazing and I hope this show becomes the inspiration for some in the future

Earthspark is what I don’t like about Transformers; Evergreen designs. Evergreen designs and the heavy stylisation since Prime annoy me. They annoy me in the way they (Evergreen designs) don’t try and deviate from the g1 designs, it’s playing safe. Too safe. Innovation and change is what makes me love Transformers.
Stylisation also gives me an ick. It looks like a mess of shapes, not a character in my eyes.

Amazing video! I found out last year that I was Agender and having representation via Nightshade has been absolutely wonderful. It warms my heart that people are getting to learn about people like myself in a positive way through my favourite franchise.

Ok this may be a Transformers video but you showed and mentioned Doctor Who multiple times and it's topical, so I'm gonna throw in my one and a half cents.
I remember seeing so many videos about Doctor who "going woke" with the Jodie Whittaker era, and while there's probably many other things wrong with Chibnall's run, I don't believe that's one of them. Especially considering that I'm watching through the new series of DW right now from the very beginning, and I can safely say it's been pretty damn woke this whole time. No less than two openly bisexual characters in the first season alone, very unsubtle depictions of space slavery later on, the list goes on. In fact, looking at how it handles its continuity in regards to the original series, one could almost compare it to how Earthspark's continuity is related to Transformers media before it.

I was surprised how good earthspark was but it just is the inverse of what I want from a transformers show, very human heavy, I was shocked recently when I gave cyberverse a chance and I realised other than being a tad kiddy it was absolutely perfect show for me no humans, deep lore pulls, dark plots and silly goofs between Autobots feels like less bloody idw

Very well said. My sibling, who themselves are pansexual, almost cried when i told them about Nightshade because they finally felt seen in some sort of representation.
I mean they still could have put it in a show less aimed for 6+ year olds but it's nice they did it. Even tho it was most likely just to get new people into the franchise
People also dislike nightshade as they feel as if that's they're only personality trait. As bassicly for season 1 part 1 and season 1 part 2 bassicly everyone they met for the first time they said hi I'm nightshade and my pronouns are they/them. And to most people they find that's un-normal as you would normally not just say your gender the second you meet someone. And most people don't do that irl so they find nightshade was just a way for hasbro to make more cash. And that might be true as once the hype for nightshade went down they bassicly stopped being a character in later parts besides when they would protect the humans without saying a word

To tell the truth, I believe that being a queer allegory is a whole small fraction of one of the main themes of Earthspark, that theme being prejudice in general. The allegory can also refer and be more accurate to racism and xenophobia issues that are still a big problem. I don't care about Nightshade, so I don't focus on him and if I think there is something wrong with them I explain to my children or other children why, but without creating more hate. I can see things wrong on both sides of this "war", all this woke and non-woke, hate and polarization, all of this only creates more hate, disrespect and disunity.
Great video lockdown, amazing job. I've been feeling really down lately about the world and worried about me and all of my friends who are queer and being afraid if we're going to be okay, but this video was a great reminder about how we're not going away and that progress is never easy. Negativity bias can be overpowering, so thank you so much for reminding me of why this franchise makes me so happy.

Some might call me weird, but I think Earthspark is a great way to not only introduce younger audiences to transformers but also helping kids understand how gender identities work (I think gender identities is what it is called, correct me if I am wrong)
When I was first introduced to Gender Identity, I laughed at it. Like a complete asshole. I didn’t understand how it worked so I would make fun of people online and in-person. Nothing bad really happened to the people I was rude to ,but I now realize how bad I had treated them. Of course, I apologized to them. It still didn’t change my wrong doings. I have know changed my ways and I am much more respectful to people with different gender identities and prefered pronouns.
Of course there will still be people who will not change or accept their opinion on people or bots having different genders that they were not assigned to at birth. I was once in a G1 fan group that would say that any Earthspark fan that is an adult was a Pedo or a sex offender. Good points. Gonna be honest I'm still not sure how to handle the situation as it's a big one for debate. Personally I still feel you treat others on how they treat you. Again good video even explaining a few things you don't really get to hear from both sides. Like I recall seeing a situation of someone being put on the street because of their orientation by their own family. Just, some things that don't seem to get brought up yet should. Only way I know how to stop hatred is looking beyond the bias, tell it "no" that it stops with you, forgive others often, and keep moving forward.

I liked this show but my only real serious issues with it are how the writers are portraying transformers as victim of there own war ( and yeah they are) but they really don't focus on just how bad the war was for humanity as well, I know the show is made for children so it likely wont do that, but humanity and earth was hurt by the war a lot like war doesn't only harm one side, and it irks me when they only focus on how bad the war was for the transformers but don't touch on just how terrifying it was for humanity as well, Humans wanting transformers to go back home are not evil there terrified and hurt just like the transformers are but the show really doesn't touch on that very well and that's kidna been my biggest irk here.

I haven’t watched earthspark yet because I was honestly afraid to watch it. I was scared that if I told people liked the show then I’d be ridiculed for it. I know there’s people who want the show to be cancelled but I still want it to keep going. This video has shown me that it deserves to keep going and that someday we as humans, like the cybertronians, Terrans and humans can one day walk together hand in hand. I personally am not a member of the LGTB community (It’s just not my lifestyle personally) but I never let inclusivity or diversity affect my opinion an show, game, movie etc. I really hope we get to see more of Earthspark in the future and the characters we love. I love transformers as a franchise and always will, and Nightshade deserves the world.

Earthspark's an amazing show, it's so different from normal TF but has so many strong character moments and excellent animation.
I personally like Cyberverse a little more, but I think Earthspark might be the better show.
So glad to have a canon NB character like Nightshade.
I really appreciate your Beyond The Binary and A War On Words segments on Earthspark, especially since a character like Nightshade can save an LGBTQ+ kid’s life and help other kids understand and be kind towards their LGBTQ+ peers. 💕

earthspark may be a kids show through and through, but it sometimes has some of the best writing in TF history
Earthspark being a cartoon made for kids or making tv show for kids in general does not stop the writing from being well-written, because why would it be? Kid shows in general should always be well-written.
Kids shows in general actually tend to have some really solid writing when people care because a kids show is not a show that is for babies, it's a show where its target audience is kids and that doesn't mean so much you babify something as it means you have to present concepts and such in a way that kids can understand. It's what makes a lot of older Disney media or even stuff like Gravity Falls work. It's for kids but it never talks down to them.
But Robots don't really have genders? Unless the Earthspark Transformers need a male & female bot to reproduce like humans...then their genders actually serve a purpose and aren't just character designs & aesthetics? Like Cyclonus & Tailgate fell in love & became a couple...without needing genders or pronouns? Right?
It's like when Joel kissed Tom Servo on MST3K...it didn't make Joel "Gay" because he may has well been kissing a toaster.
I don't think Transformers is the best franchise to explore the "concepts" of gender.

My problem with the nightshade coming out feels awkward and unnatural as in the conversation doesnt feel like something 2 individuals would have.
I think i feel this way because of Optimus's hesitance at the start. That stutter feels unnatural becauseof the following:
1. He doesnt stutter with the other terrans when interracting with them or their pronouns.
Ok so how should it be handled?
Optimus: uses either he/him or she/her
The girl should interrupt him and tells Optimus that he misgendered Nightshade and the rest of the conversation goes on as it originally was.
I think that this feels less awkward and actually is more realistic of a conversation.
Idk the hypothetical "You misgendered Nightbird" could be executed poorly or in an accusatory sense which would cause further discourse
