I applaud this film for so many reasons, but especially for the great sensitivity shown to the civilian populations during that time of war and the heartbreak that so many of the women and the children, in particular, had to endure.
This film was made in 2017 and by then lot of realism have been lost when dealing with the War. So we have a somewhat soppy story where a doctor is not providing the much needed health care but stays in a dog training unit. Very unlikely that such a thing woud have happened but it makes for a romantic melodrama. Not so good for the fans of reaistic Russian movies but watchable. I enjoy listening to Russian language, I've learnt some basic Russian ages ago and now I am expanding my vocabulary. Oh, and fun to see everyone munching apples as in many other Russian films ut where are the ubiquitous cats? Often they would just wander onto the shoot, oblivious to film crew. I guess the dogs used in this film kept them away.
