I could be completely off with this but you have to remember that these songs were written by Morissette/Dave and they come from a Filipino perspective not a Western one. Choices are made by an artist through the prism of their own reality. An example of this: the synth choice might be something that is a style choice there and not as much here. I always defend an artists choice if it is earned.
There's even slight changes in this from her EP and the live version she did (where she had her hair in braids, looking all fly). You can interpret it how you want because she meant for this to be relatable for any scenarios. But that's why the sunset version is just so much more raw and emotional. Just wish you saw these other versions before the sunset version but all good. Her EP is so good. The WishBus is a treasure trove and yes, very unforgiving environment anyways because most stations don't have the best equipment for mixing but not the WishBus. But then again, the talents really are just amazing. It's almost like the WishBus is a standard. Definitely don't see that here in North America. Cheers!

It's not that greatly different as you suggest... And lyrics that are more generalised yet meaningful is how great song lyrics are written...rather than just writing for her situation which the lyrics fit beautifully, she has an awareness that she is also writing for the people who might be in a similar but different scenario...
