Descendant of Cain. Kin of the Valkyries. Bestial fiend. Sovereign ruler. Monstrous murderess. Avenging warrior.
• This nameless “dam’ is anathematized in Beowulf.
The Anglo-Saxon epic casts her as a Pagan female of power,
of which subsequent translations have stripped her.
