awesome Nathan, look forward to learning there!
Lucky to have a inspiring person like you.
Honored to have you watching my videos
Hi nathan, filippo here i'm italian guy 35 years old...I'm just started to play guitar, so it's reaaaaly difficult but you give me a motivation to don't give up...i've got two son and an hard job and less time to practice guitar...
You and your music make me feel inspired. So tank you a lot for this video, this is the best exercise i've found because easy to remember.
I wish One day I will play like you!!!
Sorry for my English...
How is your practice going
My fingers have a mind of their own...
Super hyped for your arrangers academy!
Thank you for the cool exercise. Super hyped for the upcoming BTG Arranger Academy! ❤
This helped, a lot! Thank you
great video.will be doing this exercise.
Great tip
Thank you so much 😊💕🙏🏼🎶
Super helpful as always! I have Pumping Nylon and I have seen the exercise, but it's nice to hear where in the exercise I can focus and also that I can start small and move up. Pumping Nylon contains tons of super fantastic exercises but it is also pretty advanced, without much in the way of beginner/intermediate/advanced exercise separation.
Thanks a lot, Nathan, you just helped me make a huge breakthrough in my guitar playing. Super grateful!!!
Veeeeeery very good exclusive technique, thanks dear.
Thanks dear 😘
Exactly the practice I've needed, my finger movement is informal since I self-taught myself by playing fingerstyle music and I've been trying to improve my finger and arm stance while holding the guitar so this really helps out! Thanks so much ✊🔥
This makes sense for me.
I’ve always wanted to play by ear.
Even after playing so many years,
I still don’t have it down.
Thanks again so much, you have great understanding for teaching this.
YESS INDEED!!! So glad you posted this video because it is one that we ALL need to focus on!!!
Left hand finger independence!!! I believe utilizing the first and second fingers as well as the third and fourth fingers independently with the opposing motion is also beneficial. In the book pumping nylon I believe Scott has about two or three more of those exercises.. in that same section that emphasizes finger independence. And as you know there is a section in there talking about walking which is FANTASTIC for the right hand!!! Once again so glad I found you on RUclips, I think you are one of the best!!
Thanx for the motivation!!
Thank you so much Nathan. Im now practicing classical guitar every day.
That's what I like to hear!
How is your practice going soup
Thanks a lot Nathan
Now I know my problem haha, Thanks again
Keep going bro, you're doing great work!!
Great great great
Your sucking me back to pick up again! Enjoy your videos!
Thanks!
You're very welcome
I totaly do like you. I take a song I want to learn and than practise things I need for song
Well, it is more difficult than i thought xD. Anyway, it seems very helpful so I'm gonna practise it. Thanks!!
Really good exercise! I'm surprised that 3/4 are easy for me but 1/3 is super hard. Time to practice!
Buenísimo
Beyond The Guitar Pre-School... exactly my level!
Haha! Everybody needs this, no matter how advanced
@@BeyondTheGuitarAcademy The whole extent of my musical capabilities is picking individual notes on the bottom 3 strings that sound the most similar to the base notes of what I am actually listening to. This exercise is the first thing I saw from all my guitar learning subscriptions that I can actually do.
I bought my guitar two years ago and subscribed to yousician, I sometimes did 6 days worth of lessons in one, so I progressed considerably in just 3 weeks, then I had to cancel my subscription ad got stuck around that level since. Now I'm trying to improve on youtube, but it's difficult trying to find exercises that as you say focus on things I'd actually like to play instead of stupid chord exercises. I do not want to play chords, I want to play notes. In my book, playing chords and calling it playing music is like humming and calling it singing.
@@dominic.h.3363 Fair, but you gotta respect the skill that goes into a lot of rhythm playing
Aaaaaaaa!!! So much harder than it looks! Great exercise!
i cant believe ive been playing guitar for 7+ years and i struggle with this i want to cry.
Hey Nathan, I was just wondering do you plan on opening the doors of the Beyond The Guitar Arrangers Academy again? I was going to sign up but at that time I didn't because I had all these exams and lessons that I had to attend but now I have all these free time and I am spending it poorly, trying to figure out how to arrange is scary and hard. I would love to see you open Arrangers Academy again and I believe I am not the only one. Be safe and take care, Thanks!! :)
I definitely will be opening it again later this year. Probably late summer-ish. Just make sure you're on the waiting list so you don't miss it: academy.beyondtheguitar.com/enroll
You are more useful than a god is to me, as I follow your practices, not those of his. Thank you!
I used to do this drill a lot.
Now your fingers are so independent they moved out and got a job. ba-dum-tsh!
So normally I take all these tips from RUclips videos about playing guitar or banjo and it helps maybe a bit here and there, or it's stuff that I already know and it doesn't add much.. But all you're tips and advice have improved my playing and practicing a lot in a very short time..! I feel like I'm practicing much more efficient now, Incredible! Especially with these bad habit videos and 50 tips. Exactly all the little things I didn't know I was doing wrong, or making it just a bit inefficient. And good quality videos too. Keep it up.
you are the one who made me buy a guitar
thank you bro
Im learning by myself
any advice
That's awesome! Advice? Practice this drill ;)

What books or other resources do you recommend for someone just starting out to learn classical guitar for the first time?
I have a compilation of recommendations linked in the description of this video you should check out
Now if only someone would devise such a useful "EVERY Guitarist Needs" exercise for the right hand.
Por favor coloca legenda em português 🇧🇷
I owe u my life
This is very difficult for beginner who just started guitar. Can you suggest something easier to start with... ??
There are links in the description with books I recommend for beginners
Oh man, just tried, and it was hellowa hard
Right?? Stick with it. A few minutes every day and it'll get much easier
Thank you, really appreciate the technique you taught us. Keep up good work!

I visited the link for academy that showed that Enrollment is closed
That's correct. Enrollment won't open until next week, but you can scroll down and put in your email address to be notified when it opens (again, it'll be open on Monday). Hope to see you in there!
@@BeyondTheGuitarAcademy I've entered my email.
Does the arrangers academy require payment?
Yes it's a monthly subscription for those who want to go deeper into learning about arranging for guitar
I guess I'm the first person to comment here! Surely gonna put another one after watching the video!
Looking forward to it!
@@BeyondTheGuitarAcademy I really like your philosophy on practising techniques! I've been through quite a few books which focused more on practising scales. To be honest, I lose motivation after practising scales for a long time! Your technique is a 'quick to go through' like task which will really help out novice players like me! Thank you :)
That doesn't sound crazy to me, as I never practice scales, which is about as much fun as watching paint dry. I saw an interview once in which Goran Sollscher admitted that he never practices scales. If a world-class virtuoso like Sollscher can do without, I figure that I can as well!
Exactly! They're more valuable when you're just starting out, but now I'd much rather practice scale passages within actual music. Plus, when do you ever see a straight ascending and descending C major scale (for example) in actual music? Tommy Emmanuel, from the fingerstyle world, mentioned not practicing drills and such as well.

Very interesting exercise and useful videos, but if I may give one tip: shorten your videos. In all of them I skip a lot, because you talk so much ;). Just friendly advice. This video could be done in 3mins
Thank you. Really
