Kayla I love the beautiful patio umbrella. Nice potting bench. It is you. Spring is here.
Fyi: I plant Okra in the flower bed. It is a pretty plant. Also cucumbers will grow up a trellis on the fence. They need lots of room like melons and pumpkin. Please contact a soil company to deliver your garden soil in bulk. You will be needing a lot of soil. Consult a garden center to find out the pressure the soil will exert on the wood. Support will be needed in the center to prevent bowing. If you have under ground digging critters like moles or voles line your beds with rabbit wire. It is heavier gauge with a small grid. Thanks for the video. Have a great week.

yessss! spring is in full effect! Yes, we are going to need so much soil. I've been trying to see who has to best deal but I'm going to shop around a bit more! Thank you for the tips and for taking time to watch and comment 🥰🤗

As a gardener of 40+ years, I enjoyed your video. I do agree that you both need some different shoes on. For me, tall rubber boots are ideal on spring cleanups and fall leaf collection. During the rest of the season, I wear shorter hiking style boots to still cover the ankles and I always wear long pants. I like idea 2 for your beds.

Weeding is both annoying yet rewarding at the same time. I did my spring gardening, mostly for my front porch, and I cannot wait for my green beans, tomatoes, jalapeños, lettuce, and wild flowers to grow. I like to grow flowers that attract pollinators to help keep my gardening going. So as a tip, I highly recommend getting flowers that attract bees and butterflies and even hummingbirds because it's so beneficial. Bonus tip, if you grow wild flowers, you can make a nice cut flower garden for yourself and hand fresh flowers all spring and summer.

Great start! You need to get some snake boots aka rain boots when working in the yard to protect your feet. My mom usually throws moth balls in her garden and along the perimeter of her and her siblings properties at the end of winter to deter snakes from coming into the yard. She may do so again a few months later if any signs of snakes show up. Please protect your feet/legs when working outside.

Make sure to plant flowers in your fruit and vegetable beds. The flowers will bring the pollinators ( bees) so you get tons of produce!!! Super excited for you. I want to start homesteading as well. ❤

Definitely need a decorative border to outline your plant beds. It will also help to contain everything inside the plant beds, such as the straw mulch from going into your grass. Keeping everything neat and confined.

  • @sheshell8165
    @sheshell8165 6 месяцев назад

I like idea #2 for the layout. A tip to help with filling up the raised beds is to fill them up with leaves, sticks and top soil. Fill the the rest of the beds with at least 5 to 6 inches of good soil and compost. Also, research safe product to use to seal the wood. You don't want harsh chemicals to leach into your soil/ harvest. Gardening is fun and relaxing. I know you both will succeed.

Hi Kayla . A pair of rubber boots would be good to wear while you are gardening. Be careful working outside because snakes are partial to burying under leaves, straw, and brush. I think you chose a nice selection of seeds as a starter. Enjoy learning how to garden! I'm learning to garden also. Good luck and have fun!

  • @Morethanjustflips

Looks amazing as usual. Make sure you build those beds with treated lumber since they will be outside. Keep termites off all that kind up stuff once they dry out seal them well with Thompson water seal every year. Should be good after that.

Love your garden ideas. I think Marcus should put 4 more supports inside the garden bed since they are 8 ft long. Also you should think about all the pollinators you will attract with the garden being so close to the patio. I like design number 2

Hey Ladybug! I really enjoyed this episode! I must say the pine straw does look beautiful, BUT it's a blanket for snakes. It creates a nesting area for them, so please reconsider using natural mulch or wood chips instead. But above all enjoy your time spent in your garden. It's a place of solace. #Happy gardening

A great tip I can give you is to purchase Black Kow Cow Manure for your garden. Compost helps your food and flowers thrive with your choice of soil. Definitely do your research. It’s many gardeners on RUclips. Look up your specific foods that you’re growing to have a great harvest.😊💕

You may have to have a fence built around your garden, especially if you have deer. Also someone has already said for burrowing animals place down chicken wiring before planting to keep them from burrowing up from the bottom. Lay down cardboard to help keeping weeds from taking over your garden, instead of that weed fabric. Hope you saved those leaves to help fill your raised beds. Check out Life on Promised view acres videos

Hi Kayla. Your blueberries are going to grow at least 4ft tall and wide (maybe more considering your zone and sun). The package of dahlias tend to grow abundantly and will get about 3-4 feet and grow wide side shoots. They will need staking. The dahlias will not fit in your planter with the blueberries. They need space. Can you plant your dahlias in the ground behind the planter box? That might be a lovely view. I vote for #2 layout. I'm so excited to see your progress. ✌️❤

@@YoungLadyBusiness Unfortunately, I’m on my 4th home ( all were new - Solo), so at my age it’s nice but not like my homes when I lived in your neck of the woods, Suwanee, Ga. I lived in the Metro for 35 years ( 2 homes there). Sadly, I moved back to where I’m from & hate it - Indiana. Actually, on my way there tomorrow in my RV w/fur babies for a funeral & week on Lake Allatoona to chill. Enjoy, the journey, you have help & 2 great minds. Evolve, learn how companion plants work to help or harm one another. Remember, if you like it, so do pest & critters. My latest lesson has been adding these various coverings you can get from Amazon to control both. Marcus is a jewel, his handiwork & strength will allow you to design & fulfill goals I never could bc of my physical limitations. Maybe invest in an upright freezer or figure out cold storage, bc whatever you grow, it will be more than you can imagine. Now, that you have seeds, you should never have to buy seeds again. I learned this from my family, who were farmers. Learn to extract & preserve seeds that you get back. They had ‘cellars’ and we canned, blanched & froze food. God is amazing and gardening can teach you so much about yourself, if you dive into it and it turns out to be your Happy place. Most of my Friends thought I was crazy to do all that work. But, when I would give them rosemary for their prime rib at Christmas or make homemade Salsa with my tomatoes & peppers, they were like, Wow, this tastes like Heaven. My best gardening was in Georgia. I had the best collards & green beans. Everything so organic. Take your time, grow what you Love and enjoy the journey of peace relaxation, vitamin D. And child, invest in some garden shoes!! LOL 😝 I have a pair of boots & 2 pair of garden shoes. All made by same company. Think they are Sloggers ??

Hi Kayla! I have raised garden beds that are super economical and really, really cute and functional! I used cylinder blocks/bricks as my first two layers to keep animals and rodents from eating my veggies and so that the bed can be higher off the ground to prevent back pain. The third layer is 6" x 2" x 8' lined treated lumber. I filled the bottom with bails of hay and branches to compensate for the expensive dirt. Every year I add a few more bags of dirt because the hay is composting and the dirt refreshes the garden bed. I wish that I could send you a picture but I hope you will try it! So happy to see you enjoying your home and the garden. Keep up the good work and ... Happy gardening!!! PS. I am so proud of Marcus. He is becoming a wonderful woodworker. So unafraid to tackle a Kayla challenge! Go ahead Mr. Man! LOL!😊🌻🥀🐝🍅🌄🌞

I like plan 1 better. Only because it seems like there might not be enough space between the beds for all your crops in option 2. And for the weeds along the fence, do you have any wood fence pieces left over from when the fence was built? I put my extra pieces flat along the bottom of the fence with a bit of the edge buried to fully block anything coming from the other side. Sometimes I do get a few stems pushing through the gaps but it’s still much easier than having to pull things from the root. I love what you and Marcus have done so far and I’m looking forward to more gardening content! ❤

25:49 tip #1 wear rubber rain boots when working in the garden. Snakes can't bite through rubber. Tip from my aunt in Arkansas.

You didn’t give a directional idea, but you want to run your beds north to south. That way nothing gets shaded out. Also, plant your tall stuff toward the west so they don’t shade out you shorter plants. Either plan looks good to me though. Just watch your shade carefully before you pick your permanent spot. Happy growing!

I love option 2 because if you need to you can add a fence.

Love your garden plans!😁 just make sure you research each item you want to grow and the type of soil, space, and care it needs. Also, START SMALL! You dont want to get overwhelmed.

There is a stain you can get at Lowe's that will prevent the boards from rotting and soaking up water and moisture

I don’t have a green thumb my mom on the other hand had the best green thumb with plants, she also had a sun room can’t wait to see the garden when it’s done. You need to get weed killer that will help stop the weeds from growing back.

Maybe a greenhouse. Build a fence around the garden and keep things around the fence so the animals can't climb and get in the garden.

Botanic Interests is probably my favorite seed company! Keep in mind you probably won't get berries from your strawberries until next year, consider grabbing some bareroot in the meantime.

Best for snake protect ting is rain boots but they get hot so socks and closed clogs ( back and front) or thick running shoes) . Make noise, use sticks and you will be okay. Learn the snakes in your area. Bet most are garden or “ rat snakes” all good for your property!

So one thing that I think yall should do is what I did for me & my grandmother. I asked every to be on the lookout for FREE WINDOWS. Then when we got enough we put them all together & made a big beautiful Green House out of windows & it keeps everything out of the food garden. That would be absolutely fantastic in y'alls backyard. Hope it's something you think about doing. If so, let me know.

I didn't think I'd like it but I loved the ASMR portion of the video! I'm more of a novice gardener than you so I'm following your speed but on a much smaller scale. I only have a balcony. Lol!!
