I can't tell you how many times I done listened to the song during season 1. Now I find myself still listening to it to this day. They made an ageless song.
I think the contrast is just the music, but not the lyrics because in the end Vi decided to sacrifice herself out of love to her family and friends. So on one hand music and scene are very contrasting, but on the other hand they fit very well together.
I wish the show had actually ended / been cancelled after this episode, so my fond memories could remain intact. -- Because you just have to know that Netflix will not be able to restrain itself in murdering the male characters you've been warming to (and they'll all be dead by the end of episode 3 in an ultraviolent gorefest, because who doesn't want such an abrupt switch in tone to an adventure cartoon you thought was safe to watch with your kids on the couch? I genuinely thought it was from that era when I first heard it. I googled it immediately after watching this episode before I went on the next episode, it's that good
It took me quite long to understand this scene: Basically, after the talk at the memorial of all the people who died at the uprising of the undercity, Vi decides that she turns herself in, waiting at Benzo's for the enforcer - as that will stop the conflict (as the topsiders are mainly searching for a scapegoat for the explosion) Vi presumably told Powder about this in their room, giving her her stuffed toy that was twindled up and stuck at that one cable when they were at the roof. Probably wishing her goodbye and that she should keep the toy as reminder to her - after likely a very sentimental goodbye, Vi forcefully enters the closed shop and waits*. Powder, as sad as she is, probably cried with Vander not realising, after getting over it, she goes to vander* saddened and without motivation. Vander, as good as the vater figure he is, tries to cheer her up, but as it's not getting better, he realize something is off*. As he sees VI's toy with powder, he takes, remembers it and is worried as he knows what Vi is about to do. *As seen in the video.
Perfect. Yeah it took me a while to piece together everything too. I'm not sure if they purposely made it a bit confusing, especially with Vi's kicking Benzo's shop door to break in intercut with the marching of the Enforcers. I think at first glance it was supposed to confuse the viewer into thinking some of the Enforcers were breaking into some houses. Either way, the beginning of the next episode made it super clear what all went down, so even if the viewer was confused at this at first, nothing was lost after they move to the next ep, and in fact this makes repeat viewing that much more rewarding, so kudos to them for not treating viewers with kid gloves and let us figure stuff out on our own.
@@uzairahmed4197 Powder probably didn't know exactly Vi's plan, but she knew it was a farewell gift and discussion they had. That's why she is feeling so down when sitting at Vander's bar
I realized this today seeing the episodes for the second time. Its amazing how many little and fast scenes can tell a whole story. At my first watch, I didn't payed attention to 1:27 After Vander reaction his moments to Vi came all to my mind... Vander words on how when she decides something, everyone follows here, no matter what... as she decided to give herself in. I love when the writers dosen't treat us viwers as dumb. This serie is pure quality. All around.
Yep. I realized it pretty immediately. Love how subtle this show is. After Vi and Vander had that talk, it was clear that they both would sacrifice everything, including themselves, to protect their family. That was the moment Vi realized the bravest thing she could do to protect Powder. And she knew about the scroll to turn herself in because Ekko told her. And Powder seemed to know immediately that her sister was saying "goodbye" in a way without understanding what Vi was doing.
Up to this point, Arcane constantly showed how Vi was frustrated with Piltover. She hates what happened to her family. She always trained so hard because she wanted to beat the crap out of them and gain respect. She wanted to not feel weak. But when Vi realized her family was in a situation they couldn't escape, she offered herself to the very people she hated. Vi in this moment showed just how deep her love for her family really is. "Our Love" really captures that motown home-y family love feeling. It's perfect. This moment made Arcane for me.
It's strange this song sounds like a mo-town classic and yet fits the tone of the scene perfectly. Also kudos to the animators, that close up of Vi's eyes *chefs kiss*

I was giving this show a watch just to see what all the hype was about and this scene was the one that had me hooked. Just a perfect execution of how to keep your audience entertained, engaged and interested in the story you're telling.

When you come to think about it, if Vander had let Vi turned herself in, she'd be in prison and that's it. Whereas because of the course of events in episode 3, she ends up at the same point, plus everybody in the crew is either fucked up or dead. Again a very good use of tragic irony in the series, because we as an audience, cheer for Vander to "save" her, but didn't know at the time what it would lead to
This scene is so beautiful and putting this song in was nothing short of genius. Everything that's happening here is caused by love - Powder being said about Vi leaving, Vi turning herself in because she loves Powder and needs to save her friends, Vander making the decision to stop Vi and turn himself in because he loves them.
