Some people are nuts, just because characters are not black, it doesn't automatically mean they are white. Like ya know a lot of people on the planet have light skin without being caucasian. Japanese people for example are also light skinned, but they are not white caucasians. Generally, when authors write characters, they usually write them to be like people they see around themselves. European authors wrote white characters, asians wrote asians, africans wrote arfican characters. It's a very recent thing that all the different countries and cultures started writing racially diverse characters.

Ultimately this whole discussion doesn't matter, especially because people can't decide if Asians are White or not. Which isn't surprising because "White" "Black" and any other color you can think of are entirely arbitrary classifications that encompass numerous different ethnicities based solely on the look of someone. This is why we have absurdities like grouping Germans and Spaniards together as "White" despite completely different backgrounds and genetics. Also "Coding" is a very bad standard to use, you will wind-up with absurdities based on stereotypes. You can stick to the direct statements that are far stronger, such as when you talked about the Saiyan race as a whole. You can also just talk about the direct inspiration which is what you did, and that too is a far stronger argument. The Stylization argument was also good, a majority X country making stylized characters will primarily produce X characters. The only way around that is if it could be shown the country despite being majority X hates the majority X population, which is a impossible argument to make about any Asian country.
What you say is true, at the end of the video even I have to acknowledge that this argument is dumb from the get-go. Race is an extremely arbitrary social construct most of the times, I was tempted to go into the weeds a bit, things like "Honarary Aryans" etc. But maybe I'll save that for a future video. They're not "white" they're just pale skinned not all people with pale skin are "white" I'm Arab but I'm pale most asians are also pale it's just that people focus on westerners and they have no unique characteristics other than being white so it's always assumed that pale skinned characters with no unique characteristics are white
White people are Western Europeans (and their descendants like people from North America), that's it, it's that simple, end of the story, for example Africans are Africans, some have pale skin others have dark skin, same thing with any other race like Hispanic, Latino or Japanese. We have reached such a low point as a society that most people call others white based on the fact that they don't reach a certain level of melanin, it's quite literally either black or white for them.

It's nothing to worry about, it's no different than black being the default in africa, latino being the default in south america, or asian being the defualt in asia. Even when I was a little Eastern European first grader, when I saw Dragonball the first time. I still thought that Goku was Chinese! Hey, I even watched Dragonball in German, which I did not understand, and I still could love the characters and associate with them!
In the episode of Bardock tv special, Bardock's crew each one of them had a different skin tone like in example tora had a red skin, borgos dark kind of a gray skin... I always taught of it like the saiyans color skin didn't matter what mattered is the strenght, the elite saiyans always look down to the low class saiyans. I think the super saiyan arguments are by far the dumbest argument for goku to be white. His hair is yellow explicitly because it’d show contrast in the manga. In a black and white manga, having a character’s hair go from black to white is the most obvious and drastic change you could make to visually communicate a change. Plus it also made it so toriyama’s editor didn’t have to ink in his hair which given stuff toriyama’s hatred for inking stuff like first form cell’s spots is in character for the man. Plus in the manga the super saiyan eyes aren’t blue so much as they are green, look at stuff like the volume 33 cover, weekly shonen jump issue 36/37(1992), chapter 323 or the title page of chapter 411. Toriyama consistently draws the eyes of super saiyan closer to teal or green than he does blue. I’m not too suprised at how stupid this argument is though because dragon ball fans were never known to even watch their show or read their manga, let alone look at the eye color of their characters.

I always understood the aesthetic of supersaiyan to be fire-coded the yellow hair, standing up in spikes kinda like a flame the transformation (initially) coming from purehearted fury (getting "heated" + the concept of purifying flames) while also being destructive in nature (fire burns lol) even the golden energy aura, as if the warrior is literally on fire I never had much of an explanation for the eyes in specific but supersaiyan always looked to me like fire

The Saiyans are so unbelievably asian coded, it should be apparent to anyone with working brain cells. The fact that their hair colors are almost universally black and brown, and the fact that the ordinary saiyans are clearly (exaggerated) but almost one to one direct parallels with asian people in the Broly movie should end this debate. Another reason why the Saiyans are Asian coded is how having different color hair like blonde or red hair is often seen as rebellious in a lot of Eastern countries.
If Saiyans have any other hair color than Black or brown, it could be mistaken for a transformation (As DB does hair color changes whem it comes to new forms). Plus, In real life, black and Brown hair are the most common hair colors. So, the black hair point you made probably has nothing to do with asian descent.

On the delinquency point and the reason chi chi gokus very traditional wife is so against the blonde hair is because in Asia like Saiyans, they have mostly black hair and dark eyes with an incredibly small percent of exceptions, so having blonde hair is a choice as it doesn’t happen naturally, which in a very uniform country that places a higher value on conforming to societal expectations is seen as trying to go against society. This is why chi chi gets angry, as she either sees it as such or understands this is how others will perceive it. If goku and gohan were white there would be no need for anger as there would be a high chance this could be their natural appearance and their wouldn’t be the same societal expectations
Is this like how AOT’s characters are German (Which is why it’s emphasized over and over again that Mikasa is Asian specifically. Also that’s why the characters have the names they do, and why the houses are styled the way they are. Goku is one of the more obvious examples of an anime character who is asian, due to his chinese inspiration. But as for the rest of them I can see the confusion. For example, Saber from Fate is (Spoilers) King Arthur, the former King of England. The character is in universe a white woman, but her face template is no different than the native Japanese characters. But her design was in a thumbnail, and used in a video where the youtuber argued they are all Asian, even though she isn't. He used her image next to Sailor Moon in his argument. The same thing happened with people using designs from Seven Deadly Sins. That anime takes place in England thousands of years ago, and everyone in it is a native. Making them all white british (except for a few) But they are drawn no different than asian characters, in the SAME anime! Same thing for Yuri on Ice, the second lead Victor is white. If you're white or asian, you can pretty much claim any character until the anime says otherwise, because there are literally no physical differences between them. Must be nice, you can cosplay whatever you want and not get heat for it

His character inspiration is Chinese, the original Dragon Ball's location is based on China, he even does Kung Fu Fighting Styles in the opening theme song. There's too much evidence to ignore, his tail made him stand out as abnormal. But outside of that, he would appear as an average Chinese boy. Bulma looks more white then he does

The point about Seven Deadly Sins is wrong though. It takes place so long ago that the inhabitants would be darker skinned, not white. It'd be before the Anglo-Saxons invaded. Also, most of the main characters are *not* native to the country most of the story takes place in. One is a demon, one is an angel, one is a fairy, one is a giant, one is a doll, one is from a different continent thousands of years ago, and one being from a completely different country, with only one singular person being native to the land the story takes place in for the majority of the run time, that being Ban.

A lot of Dragon Ball characters feel quite internationally-coded. Goku is obviously coded Chinese as discussed here, Bulma feels very American (as does the Red Ribbon Army, although you could get more variety out of individual members of the faction), Roshi gives the vibes of an old Japanese dude spending his retirement in Okinawa, several characters are Shaolin or other form of Buddhist monks, so they'd also be presented as Chinese. Yamcha is a desert bandit, so despite his complexion you could make an argument for several regions, etc. In fact, I would say more of the cast is implied as Chinese than any other nationality, even if these countries don't exist in the same way as the real world. Oolong literally dressed like a member of the Chinese Communist Party! Which should be a no-brainer because kung-fu films were such a clear inspiration for the series as a whole. And that's before we even get outside of our core cast of characters!
I think Japanese people just see them selves as lighter compared to other Asian ethnicities, so in anime majority of the Japanese characters are lighter while other ethnic groups like Chinese/Korean are drawn slightly darker. Realistically almost all characters in anime are Japanese unless told otherwise by the creators

Goku, going from End of Z to GT is actually really cool. It seems during his training with Uub, Goku eventually decided to stop being Asian, and instead opted to become Latino, only reverting back to his roots while in SSJ4. Just glad he came to the winning team.

Some people are nuts, just because characters are not black, it doesn't automatically mean they are white. Like ya know a lot of people on the planet have light skin without being caucasian. Japanese people for example are also light skinned, but they are not white caucasians.
Generally, when authors write characters, they usually write them to be like people they see around themselves. European authors wrote white characters, asians wrote asians, africans wrote arfican characters. It's a very recent thing that all the different countries and cultures started writing racially diverse characters.

Ultimately this whole discussion doesn't matter, especially because people can't decide if Asians are White or not. Which isn't surprising because "White" "Black" and any other color you can think of are entirely arbitrary classifications that encompass numerous different ethnicities based solely on the look of someone. This is why we have absurdities like grouping Germans and Spaniards together as "White" despite completely different backgrounds and genetics.
Also "Coding" is a very bad standard to use, you will wind-up with absurdities based on stereotypes. You can stick to the direct statements that are far stronger, such as when you talked about the Saiyan race as a whole. You can also just talk about the direct inspiration which is what you did, and that too is a far stronger argument.
The Stylization argument was also good, a majority X country making stylized characters will primarily produce X characters. The only way around that is if it could be shown the country despite being majority X hates the majority X population, which is a impossible argument to make about any Asian country.

I think the super saiyan arguments are by far the dumbest argument for goku to be white. His hair is yellow explicitly because it’d show contrast in the manga. In a black and white manga, having a character’s hair go from black to white is the most obvious and drastic change you could make to visually communicate a change. Plus it also made it so toriyama’s editor didn’t have to ink in his hair which given stuff toriyama’s hatred for inking stuff like first form cell’s spots is in character for the man. Plus in the manga the super saiyan eyes aren’t blue so much as they are green, look at stuff like the volume 33 cover, weekly shonen jump issue 36/37(1992), chapter 323 or the title page of chapter 411. Toriyama consistently draws the eyes of super saiyan closer to teal or green than he does blue. I’m not too suprised at how stupid this argument is though because dragon ball fans were never known to even watch their show or read their manga, let alone look at the eye color of their characters.

The fact that their hair colors are almost universally black and brown, and the fact that the ordinary saiyans are clearly (exaggerated) but almost one to one direct parallels with asian people in the Broly movie should end this debate.

Another reason why the Saiyans are Asian coded is how having different color hair like blonde or red hair is often seen as rebellious in a lot of Eastern countries.
If Saiyans have any other hair color than Black or brown, it could be mistaken for a transformation (As DB does hair color changes whem it comes to new forms). Plus, In real life, black and Brown hair are the most common hair colors. So, the black hair point you made probably has nothing to do with asian descent.

Goku is one of the more obvious examples of an anime character who is asian, due to his chinese inspiration. But as for the rest of them I can see the confusion.
For example, Saber from Fate is (Spoilers) King Arthur, the former King of England. The character is in universe a white woman, but her face template is no different than the native Japanese characters. But her design was in a thumbnail, and used in a video where the youtuber argued they are all Asian, even though she isn't. He used her image next to Sailor Moon in his argument.
The same thing happened with people using designs from Seven Deadly Sins. That anime takes place in England thousands of years ago, and everyone in it is a native. Making them all white british (except for a few) But they are drawn no different than asian characters, in the SAME anime!
Same thing for Yuri on Ice, the second lead Victor is white. If you're white or asian, you can pretty much claim any character until the anime says otherwise, because there are literally no physical differences between them. Must be nice, you can cosplay whatever you want and not get heat for it

@@Xeno_Solarus Goku was originally based on a character from Journey to West, a chinese story. His character inspiration is Chinese, the original Dragon Ball's location is based on China, he even does Kung Fu Fighting Styles in the opening theme song.
This was long before the idea he was an alien came into play, it's pretty obvious he's supposed to be Chinese. Even Chichi wears a traditional Chinese dress. There's too much evidence to ignore, his tail made him stand out as abnormal. But outside of that, he would appear as an average Chinese boy. Bulma looks more white then he does

The point about Seven Deadly Sins is wrong though. It takes place so long ago that the inhabitants would be darker skinned, not white. It'd be before the Anglo-Saxons invaded.
Also, most of the main characters are *not* native to the country most of the story takes place in. One is a demon, one is an angel, one is a fairy, one is a giant, one is a doll, one is from a different continent thousands of years ago, and one being from a completely different country, with only one singular person being native to the land the story takes place in for the majority of the run time, that being Ban.

I’ve always thought Goku and Dragonball characters as a whole were kinda their own thing.
A lot of Dragon Ball characters feel quite internationally-coded. Goku is obviously coded Chinese as discussed here, Bulma feels very American (as does the Red Ribbon Army, although you could get more variety out of individual members of the faction), Roshi gives the vibes of an old Japanese dude spending his retirement in Okinawa, several characters are Shaolin or other form of Buddhist monks, so they'd also be presented as Chinese. Yamcha is a desert bandit, so despite his complexion you could make an argument for several regions, etc. In fact, I would say more of the cast is implied as Chinese than any other nationality, even if these countries don't exist in the same way as the real world. Oolong literally dressed like a member of the Chinese Communist Party! Which should be a no-brainer because kung-fu films were such a clear inspiration for the series as a whole. And that's before we even get outside of our core cast of characters!
Some characters might be white passing, but I assure you they are not Westerners or Anericans. Since the setting DB is in China.
I think Japanese people just see them selves as lighter compared to other Asian ethnicities, so in anime majority of the Japanese characters are lighter while other ethnic groups like Chinese/Korean are drawn slightly darker. Realistically almost all characters in anime are Japanese unless told otherwise by the creators
If I were to cast a live action Goku, I would do a talent search for muscular Chinese actors who can do a Sean Schimmel impersonation.

Goku, going from End of Z to GT is actually really cool. It seems during his training with Uub, Goku eventually decided to stop being Asian, and instead opted to become Latino, only reverting back to his roots while in SSJ4. Just glad he came to the winning team.

The way anime characters are drawn use cats as references, since it's cuter and the rounder features allow for more artistic freedom when exaggerating expressions. That's often why noses look nothing like an actual human nose, especially from the side. Compare this to any pre-WW2 manga where can see how the Japanese saw themselves.
Which wasn't always the case as early pioneers took more inspiration from western media, which oversimplified features to make drawing easier.
