You can add 1 cup shredded coconut to the filling while it is hot. Put filling in a bowl and cover with clear wrap and refrigerate. Put cold filling in cold pie shell. This works well not to get pie shell soggy. It is also good if you are using a meringue topping. You can use all whole milk and add a few drops of coconut flavoring too. If you want a more yellow color add a drop or two of yellow coloring.
What a pleasure to watch! Thomas Joseph's expert yet understandable technique is highly instructional and dispels complex recipes into simple-to-follow steps.
Made this pie over the Fourth of July weekend. My wife loves coconut cream… And we have to admit this was the best ever. Thomas, thank you so much. It was truly delicious and we enjoyed it. Your instruction was spot on
Thomas made this recipe so easy to follow and explained everything so well I hope he’s in more videos I really enjoy listening to him and following his recipes!
Have you ever made a Millionare pie? If you like coconut pie you might like Millionaires pie . Its soooo delicious. It has fruit and nuts and whip cream in the recipe . You r very articulate and easy to understand and follow . You r such a delight . I would love to see you make the Millionares pie . It's not easy but i know you can do it . It seems you don't skip any details of the recipe . I see you r a perfectionist . Thankyou for this lovely 🥧
I would love to make this pie, But....In The Netherlands we cannot get sweetened coconut We only have dried dessicated coconut, which is not moist and not sweet. What do I have the change on the recipe to make it a succes? 👋🏻
well you can make the dessicated coconut sweet by mixing it with a simple syrup and then slowly drying it in a oven. You dont really have to add the coconut flakes to pastry cream, but i see no reason why you couldnt just substitute the dessicated coconut for the flakes, the only difference I might see is the texture as the dessicated coconut is much finer (which may not be a problem if you want a smoother texture). for the topping perhaps you could try mixing the dessicated coconut (after you have sweetened) with candied or raw slivered almonds.
I kept wondering why nobody was using coconut milk to make the custard. Then I found this video! Why is he the only one using coconut milk? I know nothing about baking but I figured coconut milk was an obvious. What am I missing?
i always skipped the addition of the vanilla. just thought it would diminish the coconut flavour....same with the butter, too...what is the purpose of the butter at the end anyway? thanks...looks spectacular!!

Crimp the dough as your grandmother did? With her false teeth, you mean? Sorry, only joking. This technique of folding the dough under first, looks great.
Is this diabetic coconut cream pie? Only 1/2 cup sugar? Wow, sure doesn't seem very sweet. That's less than a Tablespoon and a half per slice -- if the pie serves six. Not sweet enough for my taste. Yes, the sweetened coconut would add a bit of sweetness, but would it really add very much? I would have to add more sugar.
Why are you so mean on the filling? You made such a scant amount. When I make a pie, I fill the pie shell up. How ever, I never met a pie I didn't eat.
Dude, the pencil behind your ear - which is clearly a gimmick to give you a 'look' or 'branding', looks like you have a chunk of dandruff on the corner of your hair.
You've never seen a person with a pen or pencil there (especially at their job)? It's not a "brand" (what??) or a "look". It's for convenience only. Now go criticize a person _in real life_ with your scathing wit, and see what happens, LOL.
@@eduardo_corrochio No I have never seen a person on a youtube video cooking with a pen or pencil behind their ear. If you can't tell that this is 'branding a look' I can't help you with your lack of intelligence.

May I ask how much vanilla extract you used and also how much whipping cream and powdered sugar for the topping? Thank you for sharing 👍
Dayum that looks sooo good.

Yummy. Great video.
Awesome video!

OH GOD ......i'm in love
Is there any reason that pie dough couldn’t be pressed into a pie plate (after the dough first comes together) instead of chilling the rolling?
This sounds and looks sooooooo good yum! Great recipe

Liquid ingredients 1 1/2 c. coconut milk + 1 1/4 c. Regular milk+ 2 TBl coconut rum.. then he says total liquid 3 3/4 cup . That doesn't add up?
Yeah, I caught that also. Prolly meant 2 3/4.
maybe he added the yolks as part of the liquid
Can You eat those beans/rice, or do You trow them out after the blind baking!
I thought you save the beans for your next blind bake of a pie crust, like in a glass canister.
Keep them in a plastic bag and reuse them multiple times.
Oh Tommy, let us temper your toe nails...😅 we love u..
Bamanas too
Would love to see a vegan version of this.
Who gives thumbs down on a pie

Butter adds additional fat, thus more silkiness and decadence. Think of milk vs cream.

As soon as you add the egg yolks it becomes a custard as opposed to a pudding.
