Listening to cory at the end really makes me realize how much of a great guy he is. He's straight up confused on why no one stood up for Anya when they knew what happened to her because he cant fathom any inaction in this situation- when that's what mouthwashing is all about. The inaction of holding each other accountable, forcing each other to take responsibility. The irony of "taking responsibility" throughout the game is that no one *will* take responsibility.

Some details to point out: - jimmy continuously pushes ppl to doing things they dont want (hinting at the sa) e.g. forcing the pills to curly, forcing daisuke up the vent - jimmy already knows the recipe for a spiked drink (again hinting at the sa) - in all the guilt sequences, anya is completely missing e.g. the ID cards. This is bc he never acknowledges her OR the sa as being bad, only the pregnancy itself which serves as legal evidence against jimmy, so is all he notices and all that is seen in the guilt sequences. E.g. every time he only apologises for crashing, NEVER the sa itself. - Anya is slightly different through jimmy (the abusers pov) and curly (neutral) pov where shes more outgoing, suggesting she was being misrepresented by jimmys pov which is why she seems more one dimensional in the majority of the game. - Anya asks why there arent locks on sleeping quarters (another hint) and curly misinterprets the questions as why IS there locks on med room symbolising his denial of the assault. After the crash, anya chooses to sleep near the motion sensor polle so it goes off if anyone (jimmy) comes close. - the dead pixel could also represent jimmy and the assault as he is what curly cant see, opting to see the bigger picture instead. - the mouthwashing of the game reverses any good it does due to high sugar content paralleling jimmy constantly trying to "fix" and clean the situation, only to make it worse. - hibiscus flower symbolism: youth and dying young which correlates to daisuke - Curlys tragic irony: his inaction towards jimmy leads to a fate where he is bound to constantly observe without action. - curly only has one eye = only saw the positive side to jimmy, swansea only has the other eye (by the end) = only saw jimmys bad nature, both daisukes eyes were covered = never saw any of jimmys true nature, and Anya had both eyes open = saw jimmy the most truly and accurately (ironic as she is watered down and barely even acknowledged from jimmy). - Polle, when he speaks at the end, could represent Anya - being the only time she gets to symbolically 'confront' jimmy the mkst truthfully and accurately, being the person who sees him fully for what he is. This is hinted at by the fact that Polle and Anya have the exact same caption colour as well as the "i find myself sexually excited at the thought of cartoon horses".

That sort of line was brought up in a video about disability and Mouthwashing as a game and it's kinda neat how he just knew bad the line was just from how bad he immediately picked up Jimmy was.

Crazy how insanely symbolic this game is. There's so many connections to everything. Curly and the eyeball, watching as the situation before the crash unfolds, being forced to watch everything crumble as a bandaged cripple. The mouthwash meaning a way of trying to clean breath, like the mistakes they made. It's a crazy fever dream, paranormal, concept to think about.
This is the first time I’ve seen someone see it like this, but you forgot to say that the mouthwash seems like it helps, but it harms you because of its contents. Similar to how jimmy thinks he’s helping everyone and fixing things but is only hurting people while trying to fix things.
To those confused, the plot, as written in Wikipedia: During a routine shipment, the Pony Express freighter spaceship Tulpar is sabotaged into crashing into an asteroid. The crew - consisting of captain Curly, co-pilot Jimmy, medic Anya, mechanic Swansea, and last-minute intern Daisuke - survive. However, most of the ship's resources are blocked off by airbag-like foam, damage to which could potentially breach the ship's hull and trigger lethal decompression. Curly is also mutilated by the crash and cannot speak or move; he is kept alive via a dwindling supply of painkillers. Jimmy declares himself acting captain as a result, claiming that Curly caused the crash after going postal. When food and medical supplies begin to run low after two months, the crew decides to open their confidential shipment in the hope that it has supplies they can use. But discover that it consists solely of mouthwash which will poison them if they continually consume it. Swansea decides to break his sobriety and consumes the mouthwash due to its alchohol content, the increasing intoxication of Swansea inflaming tensions further. Jimmy, who has been forced to feed Curly the painkillers because Anya continually can't bring herself to do so, attacks and force feeds him in a rage. Eventually, Anya locks herself in the medical bay with Curly. At his birthday party, Curly breaks the news prematurely, distressing his crewmates as he would be given a recomendation for a high paying job afterwards, Jimmy believing Curly to be abandoning the crew to pursue a better career. Later, in a private conversation with Curly, Anya reveals that she is pregnant with Jimmy's child, it being implied that Jimmy raped her. Curly attempts to ease tensions with Jimmy, only for Anya to reveal her pregnancy to Jimmy behind Curly's back. Curly confronts Jimmy but tries to excuse his actions due to their history together. Jimmy convinces Curly that him being punished will make things worse for the crew, Curly choosing to let him go. The stress of his impending layoff, his jealousy of Curly, and the possibility of being held accountable for Anya's pregnancy after the delivery, are ultimately what drives Jimmy to crash the "Tulpar" in a failed murder-suicide bid, Curly's injuries being a result of him trying to save the crew by stopping it from crashing. Jimmy is hunted down by Swansea, hallucinating that the ship has become a maze, and later finding himself in a graveyard where he has to fight off Swansea. Jimmy uses the revolver to kill Swansea, who in his final moments, condemns Jimmy's cowardice and selfishness while admitting to his own faults, with it being implied that the cryo pod was actually intended for Daisuke. His sanity rapidly declining, Jimmy holds a mock birthday party with the crew's corpses. He proceeds to cut off and consume part of Curly's leg, then force-feeds the captain his own flesh in a surreal hallucination. There is another game, idk the name, but Curly was never found. I found a video of some guy explaining the steering right is actually the end of it all. 21 AU is when you dont point the wheel at the asteroid, 1.5 AU (dont remember) is when you face the asteroid. That guy explained that the crash would have had inevitable outcome- which means, polle express couldnt have found them, even if they wanted, which they probs didnt care about at all so.. Yeah! Curly was never found. (The asteroid and the crash indicates anyas as too.) Anyways, thank you for that summary ❤
1:00:07 This scene, among others, is so interesting to me. The symbolism/Foreshadowing is so good. Anya can see the “dead pixel” among all the other illuminated stars, but curly can’t seem to find it and instead chooses to look at the “bigger picture”, ignoring the dead star. In other words, Anya could always see Jimmy (the dead pixel) for what he really was, a germ, While curly never fully saw/accepted what jimmy was until it was too late. A similar metaphor exists in the “Mouthwash kills 99.9% of germs” slogan that appears so many times throught the game. Curly was supposed to keep his crew, all of them, safe from “germs” like jimmy, but failed to do so at the cost of his entire crew. So many small details like this exist in the game it’s insane (edit: notice how Anya says that she liked the display, before she noticed the dead pixel. “once you see the dead pixel, you can’t unsee it.”, but Curly claims that the one dead pixel (jimmy) doesn’t ruin the entire display since he can ignore it.)
Anya is such an amazing character and it shows the two perspectives of sa. Jimmy thinks that Anya is a shy and useless character for basically no reason, and Anya is like this because imagine being with your abuser for the whole time without no privacy and that’s why Anya talks to curly about the sleeping quarters locks. It just shows jimmys delusions of him being a “good person”, he has his delusions in his mind that Anya is like this for her being a “sensitive person” and ignoring the fact on what disgusting thing he did to Anya. And Jimmy thinks that he’s a great person until the end and takes the cowards way out.

But definitely the biggest hint is when Anya talks about the locks in the sleeping quarters with curly.

The scene with Anya and Curly by the nighttime screen is so significant. Curly says that the cockpit and med bay are locked for safety, but fails to realize that the bedrooms should be locked for safety too. Despite being so much better than Jim, Curly is unable to have any empathy towards Anya’s fears, making him just as bad as the Pony Express. He can only see “the bigger picture”, and fails to recognize the concerns and issues of his crew. Anya hid in the med bay before she died because she didn’t feel safe, and it makes me wonder if Curly realized what a horrible mistake he’d made by tuning out her concerns.
He also witnessed her death and was unable to do anything. He sees the consequences of his lack of action, and once you find Anya dead he just laughs. He’s so broken and depressed that all he can do is laugh, knowing full well they all were gonna die.

that whole ending bit on how cory talked about curly's lack of action *against* jimmy is what i really liked hearing. a lot of the fans from this game seem to disregard it because "curly couldn't have done anything" but he definitely shouldn't have still acted so buddy-buddy with jimmy either. i'm glad youtubers like jay from kubzscouts and cory were able to acknowledge how anya was raped pretty quickly and commentated on it in a respectful manner

I don't hate Curly either but the amount of fans that go, "what could he have done?"/"Jimmy abused him too"/"He was too kind"/etc, is crazy and missing the whole point of him still not doing anything at the end of the day. Any one can give him an explanation but they end up using it as an excuse despite Curly also not doing anything to help or comfort Anya and even downplaying it. He's not a good guy with great morales, but he aso didn't deserve his fate either post crash. He's a definite grey character and sad how many people also turn a blind eye to Curly, leading to a blind eye to what happened to Anya.
I want to add that there are several points in the game where Jimmy pushed boundaries and abused his crewmates. - He verbally abuses Anya and makes her live in fear of him (like how a real abuser would) - He knocks out Swansea with a spiked drink (and that also implies he's done it before given that he knows the recipe.) - He pressures Daisuke to a job that he knows is unsafe especially given the state of the ship - When he gives curly his painkillers, the audio implies more of a struggle going on between him as the game goes on. He forces the painkillers into curly (or perhaps curly couldn't ingest them normally?) Jimmy is a serial abuser. On Earth and on the ship To also show the type of person Jimmy was at the beginning, there is a whole process to crashing the entire ship. 1. going to the cock pit 2. sitting down 3. steering the ship 4. getting a key 5. turning the key 6. turning off autopilot At any point he could have stopped, but he was only thinking about himself. He was absolutely okay with ruining the lives of other people. That's how rapists and abusers are and Jimmy turned out to be both. He felt emasculated, out of control, or threatened by those in power. He always goes on about how jealous he is of curly despite being his best friend. I think what this game really tries to get at is the consequences of being a bystander/enabler. None of this would have happened if Curly had done something about Jimmy the instant he learned about what he did to Anya. As a consequence for his actions, the ship is crashed and now he is made to watch everything unfold in his morbidly crippled state. He's made to feel powerless like Anya because he didn't take action. Remember that conversation curly had with Anya about the big screen having a dead pixel? That dead pixel is supposed to be Jimmy, but curly says he wouldn't notice it because he's more of a big picture guy. Anya through out the story tried to tell Curly directly and indirectly about what happened to her so many times and he did nothing. Another thing, when Jimmy feels the consequences of his actions catching up to him he's only thinking about Curly's approval. He's always been apologizing to curly only. He does not even utter or think about the affect he had on Anya. It's always back to "fixing this" with Curly. Polle(the mascot) comments on that in his conversation with jimmy by asking "If all of this is true... then why are you still so concerned with him?" I really like how Polle cut him off when he was about to say Anya's line "Our worst moments don't make us monsters" because Anya was saying that because of Jimmy. Like he was so disconnected that he really thought he was trying to do right by not even acknowledging what he did to Anya as the part of the problem. Edit: It has been pointed out to me that there is a little error with the comment I made about the spiked drink in relation to Anya. The crew didn't have access to the mouthwash at the time so it wouldn't make sense for Anya to be taken advantage of that way. Anya asked Curly that there were locks in medical but not in the sleeping quarters and Curly answered "Safety". To add to that Anya even knew that the estimate of just under eight months so around that time, it's definitely sinking for her as to what happened. So of course Jimmy would have found his way in to her room directly. There are locks in the cockpit and medical but not the sleeping quarters. The ship has all men and one woman. That design choice for the ship is very risky especially because the ship is in space for over a year. No wonder that to Anya locking herself in medical was the best decision she'll ever make. Edit 2: It is plausible that Jimmy forced the painkillers into Curly's throat because he couldn't swallow them himself. Though I do want to point out Jimmy's other feelings toward Curly despite his admiration and respect for him. He is envious of him. Curly had a conversation with Jimmy during his psych evals and Jimmy did mention that it was annoying hearing about how great of a leader Curly was. As the game progresses Jimmy At 41:29 he lets it all loose basically saying that he feels like curly is leaving all of them behind. In a way also gaslighting him into thinking it's his fault for pony express letting them all go. Later in the game while Jimmy is captain 57:33 he does acknowledge that Curly's is stressful. He's been taking in what it actually means to be in control and take responsibility every time he gives curly his meds. Perhaps Jimmy didn't necessarily abuse curly, but he definitely felt threatened by his superiority as captain. I'm a little lost on why Jimmy cut off Curly's leg at 1:31:59, but I would say it is related to his envy because of his line "life isn't even worth living at the same level as us"

I just realized this is the first playthrough I’ve seen of this game with the sound up well enough for me to appreciate the music and sound design. Really elevates the experience.
Honestly I had to keep looking back at my phone bc even though I've seen this 15 times not even the big RUclipsrs has this level of the gameplay sound. Just having the background music was really helpful to gauge the mood and foreshadowing.

When you walk down to the cockpit the music slows down and distorts the further you go. I have never noticed that before. It was so cool. I was watching this again to support Cory but it’s ended up being a new(ish) experience.
It’s implied by Jimmy’s conversation with Curly during the psyche evaluation that Jimmy has had a “struggle of a life” back on Earth. He expresses that he enjoys being co-pilot of the Tulpar because “we’re in control here.” When Curly delivers the news that the company is going out of business, Jimmy takes it personally and feels severely hard done by, not just by pony express but also by Curly himself. The sudden loss of control, coupled with the revelation that Anya is pregnant and the realisation his abuse will be revealed when the delivery is complete tips Jimmy over the edge. In a moment of selfish desperation, Jimmy intentionally causes the crash because he would rather die than face the consequences of or take responsibility for his own actions. He likely also wanted to ruin Curly’s potential legacy of being known as a good captain and hurt the rest of the crew out of pure spite and hatred. The line at the start “I hope this hurts” is most likely a thought from Jimmy’s mind.
This just brought another piece to the puzzle for me also add the low key hate Jimmy had for curly in the mix because that "all I keep hearing was how great for a captain you are" shows Jimmy didn't really like curly that much if he was getting the praise and not him
jimmy's had said to have no financial reasons to have hobbies going as far as i remember from what wrong organ had said in terms of mouthwashing the game and its characters. he could've been from a low-income class and he views those he finds luckier in terms of financial situation -- ie daisuke having a mom and dad to help him & curly being the literal ship manager/captain -- mostly punching down at those he directs his anger at. id also say that him getting into trouble back on earth / his 'struggle of a life' does have some... concerning implications when he's raped anya & made a spiked mocktail -- would he have been a convicted felon or someone who had gotten in trouble for assaulting others, similar to anya? the amount of jealousy he harbors towards those he sees as better than him does give me hold to see what factored into what he did and why he is the way he is

1:55:10 im so glad you make a point of this!!!!! curly knowing exactly what happened to anya and not doing anything BECAUSE he is jimmys best friend is incredibly symbolic, and is most of what makes curly a morally grey character. he watches as jimmy walks into the cockpit, and clearly knowing already about jimmys recklessness, lets him crash the ship. again, fully aware is what is happening but not doing anything and ignoring the red flags and Jimmy's actions. his pattern of just standing by and watching these bad things happen is answered after the crash as well, with his skin melted off and eyelids now wide open, he is made to feel like anya did. all he can do is watch, when he needs to act the most. hes stuck in this immobile body, is completely mute and obviously very traumatized. he gets the consequences for his actions, and in the end takes responsibility for what he did (letting jimmy get away with everything). basically jimmy is a freak and curly let him be one, so everyone else had to endure his abuse .
it really makes me sad knowing the only reason Anya couldn't bare to give him the painkillers was because she didn't want to force him to do something that pained him. Because it reminded her too much of her assault.

nah you’re right. this is EXACTLY why. He can’t speak up to give his consent. This is also why she doesn’t use the chance to end curly’s suffering when she overdoses and takes herself out. She didn’t want to choose for him since he can’t give his consent and therefore respected him by only taking herself out. It’s so sad :((
some things i noticed about anya: - 14:32 every instance where jimmy feeds curly the medication, anya gets so uncomfortable that she has to leave the room. given the noises curly makes while taking the painkillers and also jimmy forcing him to take the medication, it reminds anya so much of what jimmy did to her that she has to leave the room and comfort herself - 12:17 in every conversation between jimmy and anya after the assault, she stumbles her words, compliments him, lets him insult her, and apologizes when she doesn't have to. this is because she has no protection against jimmy, so her only way of defending herself from him is to try to avoid conflict between him as much as possible - 44:25 I believe before jimmy came in, anya was confessing to swansea about what jimmy did to her. the way swansea says "oh, it's you" and anya attempting to hide her tears away from jimmy shows that she was being open to swansea, and doesn't want jimmy to see her vulnerability as an advantage - 1:00:27 in the flashback of curly and anya discussing how long it will take for help to arrive, when curly says about 237 days, she points out that it will take eight months. this is the average time it takes to have a baby

To answer your question, Swansea and Daisuke didn’t know about the assault. Anya told Curly and he did nothing. Then, when she told him she was pregnant, he still chose not to do anything. It was only after Anya told Jimmy about her pregnancy that he was forced to do something but instead of reprimanding Jimmy, he tried talking to him. During their conversation, Jimmy hints at ending everything but Curly still does nothing. Jimmy then put the ship on a crash course to avoid jail time and Curly, in an attempt to FINALLY do something, was heavily injured in the cockpit, leading everyone to believe that Curly crashed them. Anya then told Swansea what happened to her when her and him were found together but by that point, Jimmy was already captain. This is also when Swansea started drinking more.
Finally a correct explanation. People in the comments keep saying “the whole crew knew”, obviously they didn’t. Only Curly knew at first, then we find out later that Anya had a conversation with Swansea about it only after Jimmy became the captain. That’s why Jimmy shot him, because he found out what he did to her. Daisuke never found out about it because he was never told.

Something interesting that I noticed about Daisuke’s death is that Jimmy never once stepped into stop Swansea from killing him. Kubscoutz and Cory himself even pointed it out that Jimmy never once stepped in to stop Swansea from killing Daisuke. This is most likely because, as we all know as viewers, Jimmy is a narcissist and a selfish person who refuses to take responsibility for his actions as we’ve seen throughout the game play. For example, he SA’d Anya and refused to take responsibility for it, on top of that, didn’t even acknowledge her death. Another example of him not taking responsibility is when he chose to crash the ship instead of taking responsibility, he blamed the crash on Curly and led everyone to believe that Curly intentionally crashed the ship. So I think that Jimmy not stepping into stop Swansea from killing Daisuke was to take the responsibility off of his shoulders. Yes, it was inevitable that Daisuke would’ve bled to death and died but then, The blood would’ve been on Jimmy’s hands(Even though it’s still is). Jimmy allowing Swansea to kill Daisuke makes it to seem as if he is not responsible for Daisuke is death because Swansea is the one who killed Daisuke. He then called Swansea a monster and plays as if he’s innocent and could’ve saved Daisuke when everyone knows the reason why Daisuke was in the position he was in, was because of Jimmy. He continuously refuses to take responsibility for his actions and this is a blatant example of it.
I also think it's so interesting how when we finally see Anya's death, there isn't even an interaction toggle on her. Then Jimmy says he can't bear to look at Daisuke's blood - like bro does not give a single f about her does not even acknowledge her death, not even one comment on it.
This game is the perfect example of “Evil only prospers when good men do nothing.” I feel like during that conversations between curly and jimmy, I don’t think curly took him seriously, or at least didn’t WANT to believe that jimmy would kill himself and the whole crew to cover up his evil. But he was more than capable and had shown Curly that he was willing to take it there.

i am so glad the frustration of lack of reaction from curly and the crew, abt jimmy’s behavior to anya. Unfortunately, it is an extremely common reaction survivors go through especially in work environments. Curly is a good representation of the average, morally gray, man- having a need to hold accountability in the passive ways possible to the point where you do nothing at all. And even more complexity is added when you realize Jimmy and Curly are close friends. it’s frustrating from an outsider’s perspective, and it’s troubling from a survivor’s perspective, bc ive been in anya’s shoes so i hold a strong grudge between the two men. Then again, i also could never blame curly for the assault itself because he isn’t jimmy. i cant even say that im glad its only fiction bc similar situations happen all the time.
Curly was too busy trying to play the mediator and keeping things in check to really support Anya in the way she needed by continuing to enable Jimmy Daisuke didn't know what Jimmy really did to take action Swansea could've took action but I'm pretty sure he was already too detached on mouthwash and focused on getting the pod intact and away from Jimmy to help (maybe before the crash Swansea would've done something I hope) And then there's Jimmy :/
Yes!! And the whole “99% kills” bit, which flashes on screen a few times? It’s literally talking about how trying to ‘fix’ something, when you’re not wiling to go the full way in order to fix it IS what do up killing in some scenarios. Curly talked about trying to fix things constantly throughout he game, especially when it came to Anya. But his loyalty too his friend and unwillingness to deal with Jimmy accordingly is what ended up hurting the ship the most.

How Cory felt at the end of the game was too real dude. It was a good watch and game but with such heavy topics and painful resolves, oh poor Anya! And Curly?! Being so naive and overlooking sooooo many things was just painful, really. Now that it's over, it's like such a heavy heart that I feel man. I might need a break bro😭🥲
1:55:17 Swansea did not know what Jimmy did at this point, only after he talked to Anya in the cockpit towards the beginning. Anya and Curly were the only ones who knew what Jimmy did but Curly physically couldn't speak and Anya was afraid of Jimmy and didn't want to stand up to him because he might hurt her, which is also why she points out how "capable" Jimmy is and generally sucks up to him, she's terrified of making him angry. Also, Curly was the only one who knew Jimmy crashed the ship, Jimmy lied to everyone about Curly doing it. The reason Jimmy so easily became captain is because everyone on board didn't know better or couldn't do anything to stop it. That aside, what a great video! I was so happy seeing this pop up on my home page this morning, your reactions were absolutely priceless.
Oh man, I'm glad you brought up the way Anya constantly flattered Jimmy. Before the SA reveal, I initially thought she was just doing that to pass off the task of caring for Curly onto him but that clears things up. I can't imagine how awful it must've been to be in her position, having her abuser be in a position of power over her with so few people to go to for support, while dealing with the stress of having a life in her hands and hoping for a rescue.

If yall didnt know, during swanseas monologue, it reveals why he hid the cyrostasis pod from everyone, to give daisuke the youngest to learn, “goddamn sunshine” another small chance. Also didnt tell him cause hes irrational, so he waited for the right time, but it was too late. W writing ong❤

Idk if anyone point this out yet but Jimmy's original plan was most likely execute Anya with the gun, but Anya ofc hid it not wanting Jimmy to have access to it at all in fear of her own safety and perhaps others. This caused an escalation in his desperation to hide his SA of Anya by crashing the ship.
which was the scene where curly and him were talking. He was obviously distressed about pony express shutting down and Anya reporting him when she gets back, hence the career comments and jealousy towards curly.
Let me clear some things up, after finding out Anya was pregnant Jimmy not wanting to take “responsibility” for the baby and sa decided to crash the ship. Curly stepped in to save the ship resulting in his skin burning off which is why we see him the way we do. Why Curly didn’t do anything about it? He’s basically an enabler. He knew about what Jimmy did but because they’ve been friends for so long he decided to see the “good” in him instead of holding him for his actions. Jimmy took charge of the ship after Curly’s injury and flipped the story to make himself seem like the hero and Curly the villain.
The ending line, “I fixed this.” is just the nail in the coffin for my hatred for Jimmy. The creators did a fantastic job of creating a horrific character.
The saddest part about Daisuke’s death is that Swansea really cared for him enough to let him go, not a lot of people could love someone enough to let them go and I’m proud this man loved Daisuke that much. It’s sad that he loved the kid more than his own parents did. (i repeated so much but it’s like frickin late ok cut me some slack)
i think it perfectly contrasts with jimmy’s hero complex and delusions because anyone else would have put curly out of his misery a LONG time ago, but jimmy kept him alive in that state for 5 freaking months!! all because he was convinced that he could “fix” everything. he “saved” curly, putting him in the pod with absolutely no consideration of what kind of life he was leaving him to live, and then decided that after he had “fixed” it he had absolved himself enough to end it all. the bitter irony of him calling swansea a monster for ending daisuke’s suffering while he selfishly prolonged curly’s for his own peace of mind.
I feel like Swansea was keeping that singular freezing machine or whatever it's called to Daisuke, but once he died he told Jimmy he could use it instead since it doesn't matter anymore

Some facts about the characters in Mouthwashing- Anya’s name in Hungarian is mother which hints at situation with jimmy and her.-Swanseas fact is swan is in his name and swans kill the young when they are suffering badly so that’s why he killed poor Daisuke bc there was nothing he could do to help.-the flowers on Daisuke jacket are a type of flowers that die very young which Daisuke was very young and died.
Fun fact Daisuke has both his eyes injured to symbols his innocence he doesn't know any about jimmy or what he is planning while Swansea have one eye injured meaning he knew part of Jimmy's personality, and curly have one eye injured as well which means he saw only the "friend" personality while Anya have both her eyes open which symbols the fact she knew Jimmy's personality more than the rest

Can we take a moment to appreciate Cory’s narration throughout the whole video. Very immersive. Especially at the end when he distorted their voices at the table.
the scenes with Anya at 1:00:00 and 1:20:00 were so emotional, I was genuinely in shock when I realized the meaning behind what she said in the dead pixel scene, and the symbolism behind that all. this game is absolutely insane.
@therealovg It means that Anya could see the "dead pixel" while Curly couldn't and instead chose to look at the bigger picture. The dead pixel in this context refers to Jimmy, because Anya could see that Jimmy was bad. While Curly only looked at the bigger picture and trusted them all.
One thing I don't see people talking about is the stasis pod. I don't think Swansea was keeping it for himself. He always talked as if he knew he was at the end of the road and just wanted to go out having fun. He was most likely saving it for Anya after finding out what Jimmy did or for Daisuke who was just a kid that shouldn't even have been there.
A small correction, Swansea didn't know about the SA until he and Anya were talking in the cockpit (well after the crash), and Daisuke likely didn't know at all. Personally, I don't think Swansea would have sat back and allowed it to go unpunished, considering he already doesn't seem to care for Jimmy, and he does play a protector role in his own way. And even after Anya told him, they were coming up with a plan in private (The plan likely being to put Daisuke in the remaining cryo-pod and leaving Jimmy to rot). The only one who knew but did nothing was Curly. The "good man doing nothing." The exact kind of man monsters like Jimmy need to keep being monsters. I know by then Curly obviously knew what he did to Anya and Anya had just then told Swansea, but did Jimmy think that everybody on the ship knew what he did and had known for a while??
@regularhuh8880 I think he meant they look at him in disappointment and contempt because he doesn't measure up to Curly. Jimmy's a crap captain, yet they have to take orders from him. I think that's what he meant. Jimmy's referring to how he could never measure up to Curly. That, even though he's in charge now, people still don't respect him because he's a crap captain. He puts his own worth in how he tries to be like Curly.
personally, i dont think swansea cared much to help anya and was making that plan just for daisuke’s sake. if he cared, he would have axed jimmy when he found out - after all, theyre all doomed and crashed anyways. why not get rid of the assaulter and tell daisuke what happened? he didn’t because he cared more for daisuke and the cryopod than anya’s situation.
A noble plan for sure but I feel like if anyone was the better choice to be put in the pod it would be her because then you'd be potentially saving 2 lives instead of one.
I heard from someone in tiktok that Swansea never intended to use the pod for himself, but rather for Daisuke. In the end of his (sort of) speech before Jimmy shot him, he said how he would've protected the kid, the kid meaning Daisuke, and how he wish to give Daisuke a small chance to get off the rock, by mean to put him on the pod. Notice how he said before he kill Daisuke that he was a “Useless ray of sunshine” or “You coulda taught an old fool like me a lot” was already a hint how he wanted Daisuke to use the pod in a hope to get out of the space. Ps: Swansea was based of an actual swan because swans kill their kin when they got weaker to end their suffering.

quick note for cory! all of the crew members eye injuries actually represent how they saw jimmy. like daisuke, both of his eyes were injured meaning he didnt see any evil in jimmy much, while curly and swansea both had different perspectives of him (as seen each of their eye injuries are seperate. but unlike anya, both pf her eyes we left not hurt, meaning she saw all the evil in him. From what I can tell: - Curly is the absolute definition of "inaction is still action" mixed with "well he's my *bro* and I've known him for years, soooo..." Did he brush off what Anya said as a LIE? No. But did he take steps to actually deal with the situation in a good way (restricting Jimmy's access to literally ANYTHING, helping Anya take steps to do whatever she needed/wanted to do, etc.?) Also no. Not a good guy. - We hate Jimmy. Next. - Swansea didn't actually know what happened to Anya, I think, until the scene where Jimmy runs into Anya and Swansea talking about something. Because after that is when Swansea starts really shifting in how he speaks to Jimmy. He's an old man that's seen some of the worst of what humanity has to offer and has, as he said himself, let each instance just harden him. Make him meaner and rougher. Because that's just how some people cope with the world being the way it is. Not a bad guy, felt more like someone that wanted to emotionally support Anya because he felt he couldn't DO anything physically. - Daisuke didn't know anything. He wasn't even supposed to BE on the ship; he was a last minute addition. Feel awful for him. Just a baby that was doing his best.
“May we never go to hell, but always be on our way.” What a beautiful and poetic way to sum up Swansea. A man who was always so pessimistic, but truly had a pure, gentle soul. It’s also clear that by “always being on their way to hell”, the Tulpar played a part in said “Hell”. And honestly, what a goddamn masterpiece of a story. Every single room, every line of dialogue, all of it had so much symbolism and foreshadowing, and truly, pat on the back to the devs.
Reminds me of a Pretty Reckless lyric: "Don't care what happens when I die / As long as I'm alive." I 100% agree with you about the dialogue. But, the final sequences when Jimmy is fully in some kind of psychosis is too wild to me. I don't think his hallucinations would have been as intense as the vagina-thing, much more like the TV scene.... It's either nonsensical or way too long of a stretch.
1:55:26 Essentially, Curly didn’t think Jimmy would actually crash the ship. Everyone else on board believed (until the end) that Curly had crashed the ship since Jimmy had never told the truth- obviously Curly wouldn’t be able to tell anyone. I also don’t think Daisuke knew about anything happening between other crew members at all. I do believe Curly was the first to be told about the situation with Anya, and since he was already friends with Jimmy, he put the conflict in the back of his mind. Hope this helps a little! ❤️

it's nice to see anya's predicament and her isolation from the group being addressed. people say things like "well if swansea knew!" or if "daisuke knew! they would've dealt with jimmy, but it's clear that swansea WAS told and did nothing. with daisuke it's more difficult, his responsibilities with swansea effectively took up both of their time, making it possibly difficult for anya to approach swansea, and his naivety and the constant mention of how much younger he is than the crew probably a reason anya may not have wanted to tell him. the tulpar crew's only woman was violated, isolated and killed. she was killed, even if she killed herself with the painkillers, anya was killed by irresponsibility. she said she wants to believe our worst moments didn't define us, but the player will only ever know her by her worst moments. the worst things to happen to her. anya was killed long before the painkillers.
She told only Curly at first, even before Jimmy. Swansea learned of it later, but when you're on a space ship and these are the only people you can interact with, you can't easily take action (especially when Jimmy has the captain position). It's very clear to me that Swansea was very angry at Jimmy. He just couldn't take action at the time. As he was also securing a way out for Daisuke. Telling Daisuke wouldn't have helped Anya. But maybe he'd been someone to talk to. Out of everyone, Anya did not get psyche evaluations. She started spiraling somewhere along the way. Maybe depression, maybe something else. But she lost hope in the end. And when you lose hope, you don't look for help.
@smagpiethat was only after Anya had killed herself and Daisuke was mercy killed We can’t know his true motivations atm, but I think Swansea just snapped and tried to take Jimmy out (not because of Anya, but because with Daisuke dead there was no hope left)

Ok here Cory is some explanation because I noticed at the end you were getting a bit wrong: Ok so you were correct about what jimmy did to Anya but jimmy crashed the ship because he didn’t want to take responsibility of what he did to Anya and curly did try to stop the ship being seen as the one who did it tho (note: Swansea was related to swans in real life, they kill their babies if they are too sick hence why he killed Daisuke)

Listening to cory at the end really makes me realize how much of a great guy he is. He's straight up confused on why no one stood up for Anya when they knew what happened to her because he cant fathom any inaction in this situation- when that's what mouthwashing is all about. The inaction of holding each other accountable, forcing each other to take responsibility. The irony of "taking responsibility" throughout the game is that no one *will* take responsibility.

by far the most beautiful but harsh and mind-scrambling writing i have ever witnessed in a video game. insane.
Some details to point out:
- jimmy continuously pushes ppl to doing things they dont want (hinting at the sa) e.g. forcing the pills to curly, forcing daisuke up the vent
- jimmy already knows the recipe for a spiked drink (again hinting at the sa)
- in all the guilt sequences, anya is completely missing e.g. the ID cards. This is bc he never acknowledges her OR the sa as being bad, only the pregnancy itself which serves as legal evidence against jimmy, so is all he notices and all that is seen in the guilt sequences. E.g. every time he only apologises for crashing, NEVER the sa itself.
- Anya is slightly different through jimmy (the abusers pov) and curly (neutral) pov where shes more outgoing, suggesting she was being misrepresented by jimmys pov which is why she seems more one dimensional in the majority of the game.

- the mouthwashing of the game reverses any good it does due to high sugar content paralleling jimmy constantly trying to "fix" and clean the situation, only to make it worse.
- hibiscus flower symbolism: youth and dying young which correlates to daisuke
- Curlys tragic irony: his inaction towards jimmy leads to a fate where he is bound to constantly observe without action.
- curly only has one eye = only saw the positive side to jimmy, swansea only has the other eye (by the end) = only saw jimmys bad nature, both daisukes eyes were covered = never saw any of jimmys true nature, and Anya had both eyes open = saw jimmy the most truly and accurately (ironic as she is watered down and barely even acknowledged from jimmy).
- Polle, when he speaks at the end, could represent Anya - being the only time she gets to symbolically 'confront' jimmy the mkst truthfully and accurately, being the person who sees him fully for what he is. This is hinted at by the fact that Polle and Anya have the exact same caption colour as well as the "i find myself sexually excited at the thought of cartoon horses".

Crazy how insanely symbolic this game is. There's so many connections to everything. Curly and the eyeball, watching as the situation before the crash unfolds, being forced to watch everything crumble as a bandaged cripple. The mouthwash meaning a way of trying to clean breath, like the mistakes they made. It's a crazy fever dream, paranormal, concept to think about.
This is the first time I’ve seen someone see it like this, but you forgot to say that the mouthwash seems like it helps, but it harms you because of its contents. Similar to how jimmy thinks he’s helping everyone and fixing things but is only hurting people while trying to fix things.

To those confused, the plot, as written in Wikipedia:
During a routine shipment, the Pony Express freighter spaceship Tulpar is sabotaged into crashing into an asteroid. The crew - consisting of captain Curly, co-pilot Jimmy, medic Anya, mechanic Swansea, and last-minute intern Daisuke - survive. However, most of the ship's resources are blocked off by airbag-like foam, damage to which could potentially breach the ship's hull and trigger lethal decompression. Curly is also mutilated by the crash and cannot speak or move; he is kept alive via a dwindling supply of painkillers. Jimmy declares himself acting captain as a result, claiming that Curly caused the crash after going postal.
When food and medical supplies begin to run low after two months, the crew decides to open their confidential shipment in the hope that it has supplies they can use. But discover that it consists solely of mouthwash which will poison them if they continually consume it. Swansea decides to break his sobriety and consumes the mouthwash due to its alchohol content, the increasing intoxication of Swansea inflaming tensions further. Jimmy, who has been forced to feed Curly the painkillers because Anya continually can't bring herself to do so, attacks and force feeds him in a rage.
Eventually, Anya locks herself in the medical bay with Curly. After failing to convince a drunken Swansea to help him break in, Jimmy knocks him out with the ship's sole bottle of rubbing alcohol and sneaks into the utility bay to find tools. After discovering that Swansea was guarding the ship's only working cryopod, Jimmy believes that Swansea was saving it for himself, and coerces Daisuke into crawling through a damaged vent to reach Anya and Curly. Daisuke makes it through, but is severely injured in the process. Due to the missing rubbing alchohol, Jimmy uses the mouthwash as an impromptu antiseptic, only for it to worsen Daisuke's pain and injuries. Swansea, who despite early annoyed behaviour towards him, had come to care for Daisuke, choosing to reluctantly and crudely euthanize him with a fire axe. Jimmy goes into the medical bay, where Anya is revealed to have killed herself via an overdose. Jimmy finds the ship's emergency revolver and is then attacked by a vengeful Swansea.
Flashbacks to the days leading up to the crash reveal that the Tulpar crew were due to be laid off following their delivery due to Pony Express going out of business. At his birthday party, Curly breaks the news prematurely, distressing his crewmates as he would be given a recomendation for a high paying job afterwards, Jimmy believing Curly to be abandoning the crew to pursue a better career. Later, in a private conversation with Curly, Anya reveals that she is pregnant with Jimmy's child, it being implied that Jimmy raped her. Curly attempts to ease tensions with Jimmy, only for Anya to reveal her pregnancy to Jimmy behind Curly's back. Curly confronts Jimmy but tries to excuse his actions due to their history together. Jimmy convinces Curly that him being punished will make things worse for the crew, Curly choosing to let him go. The stress of his impending layoff, his jealousy of Curly, and the possibility of being held accountable for Anya's pregnancy after the delivery, are ultimately what drives Jimmy to crash the "Tulpar" in a failed murder-suicide bid, Curly's injuries being a result of him trying to save the crew by stopping it from crashing.
Jimmy is hunted down by Swansea, hallucinating that the ship has become a maze, and later finding himself in a graveyard where he has to fight off Swansea. Jimmy uses the revolver to kill Swansea, who in his final moments, condemns Jimmy's cowardice and selfishness while admitting to his own faults, with it being implied that the cryo pod was actually intended for Daisuke. His sanity rapidly declining, Jimmy holds a mock birthday party with the crew's corpses. He proceeds to cut off and consume part of Curly's leg, then force-feeds the captain his own flesh in a surreal hallucination. After a series of additional visions where he is chased by a deformed mass of horse statues, Jimmy finds himself confronted by the Pony Express mascot 'Polle', who mocks him for his faults and actions. Jimmy concludes that he can redeem himself if he ensures Curly's survival, placing him in the cryopod. He then apologizes to Curly for hurting him before killing himself with the revolver, believing he has successfully fixed their situation. The game's credits roll as Curly is placed into a 20-year cryosleep, his fate left uncertain.

I found a video of some guy explaining the steering right is actually the end of it all. 21 AU is when you dont point the wheel at the asteroid, 1.5 AU (dont remember) is when you face the asteroid. That guy explained that the crash would have had inevitable outcome- which means, polle express couldnt have found them, even if they wanted, which they probs didnt care about at all so.. Yeah! Curly was never found. (The asteroid and the crash indicates anyas as too.) Anyways, thank you for that summary ❤

1:00:07 This scene, among others, is so interesting to me. The symbolism/Foreshadowing is so good. Anya can see the “dead pixel” among all the other illuminated stars, but curly can’t seem to find it and instead chooses to look at the “bigger picture”, ignoring the dead star. In other words, Anya could always see Jimmy (the dead pixel) for what he really was, a germ, While curly never fully saw/accepted what jimmy was until it was too late. A similar metaphor exists in the “Mouthwash kills 99.9% of germs” slogan that appears so many times throught the game. Curly was supposed to keep his crew, all of them, safe from “germs” like jimmy, but failed to do so at the cost of his entire crew. So many small details like this exist in the game it’s insane
(edit: notice how Anya says that she liked the display, before she noticed the dead pixel. “once you see the dead pixel, you can’t unsee it.”, but Curly claims that the one dead pixel (jimmy) doesn’t ruin the entire display since he can ignore it.)

Anya is such an amazing character and it shows the two perspectives of sa. Jimmy thinks that Anya is a shy and useless character for basically no reason, and Anya is like this because imagine being with your abuser for the whole time without no privacy and that’s why Anya talks to curly about the sleeping quarters locks. It just shows jimmys delusions of him being a “good person”, he has his delusions in his mind that Anya is like this for her being a “sensitive person” and ignoring the fact on what disgusting thing he did to Anya. And Jimmy thinks that he’s a great person until the end and takes the cowards way out.

The scene with Anya and Curly by the nighttime screen is so significant. Curly says that the cockpit and med bay are locked for safety, but fails to realize that the bedrooms should be locked for safety too. Despite being so much better than Jim, Curly is unable to have any empathy towards Anya’s fears, making him just as bad as the Pony Express. He can only see “the bigger picture”, and fails to recognize the concerns and issues of his crew. Anya hid in the med bay before she died because she didn’t feel safe, and it makes me wonder if Curly realized what a horrible mistake he’d made by tuning out her concerns.
He also witnessed her death and was unable to do anything. He sees the consequences of his lack of action, and once you find Anya dead he just laughs. He’s so broken and depressed that all he can do is laugh, knowing full well they all were gonna die.

that whole ending bit on how cory talked about curly's lack of action *against* jimmy is what i really liked hearing. a lot of the fans from this game seem to disregard it because "curly couldn't have done anything" but he definitely shouldn't have still acted so buddy-buddy with jimmy either. i'm glad youtubers like jay from kubzscouts and cory were able to acknowledge how anya was raped pretty quickly and commentated on it in a respectful manner

I don't hate Curly either but the amount of fans that go, "what could he have done?"/"Jimmy abused him too"/"He was too kind"/etc, is crazy and missing the whole point of him still not doing anything at the end of the day. Any one can give him an explanation but they end up using it as an excuse despite Curly also not doing anything to help or comfort Anya and even downplaying it.
He's not a good guy with great morales, but he aso didn't deserve his fate either post crash. He's a definite grey character and sad how many people also turn a blind eye to Curly, leading to a blind eye to what happened to Anya.

I want to add that there are several points in the game where Jimmy pushed boundaries and abused his crewmates.
- He verbally abuses Anya and makes her live in fear of him (like how a real abuser would)
- He knocks out Swansea with a spiked drink (and that also implies he's done it before given that he knows the recipe.)
- He pressures Daisuke to a job that he knows is unsafe especially given the state of the ship
- When he gives curly his painkillers, the audio implies more of a struggle going on between him as the game goes on. He forces the painkillers into curly (or perhaps curly couldn't ingest them normally?)
Jimmy is a serial abuser. On Earth and on the ship
To also show the type of person Jimmy was at the beginning, there is a whole process to crashing the entire ship.
1. going to the cock pit
2. sitting down
3. steering the ship
4. getting a key
5. turning the key
6. turning off autopilot
At any point he could have stopped, but he was only thinking about himself. He was absolutely okay with ruining the lives of other people. That's how rapists and abusers are and Jimmy turned out to be both. He felt emasculated, out of control, or threatened by those in power. He always goes on about how jealous he is of curly despite being his best friend.
I think what this game really tries to get at is the consequences of being a bystander/enabler. None of this would have happened if Curly had done something about Jimmy the instant he learned about what he did to Anya. As a consequence for his actions, the ship is crashed and now he is made to watch everything unfold in his morbidly crippled state. He's made to feel powerless like Anya because he didn't take action.
Remember that conversation curly had with Anya about the big screen having a dead pixel? That dead pixel is supposed to be Jimmy, but curly says he wouldn't notice it because he's more of a big picture guy. Anya through out the story tried to tell Curly directly and indirectly about what happened to her so many times and he did nothing.
Another thing, when Jimmy feels the consequences of his actions catching up to him he's only thinking about Curly's approval. He's always been apologizing to curly only. He does not even utter or think about the affect he had on Anya. It's always back to "fixing this" with Curly. Polle(the mascot) comments on that in his conversation with jimmy by asking "If all of this is true... then why are you still so concerned with him?" I really like how Polle cut him off when he was about to say Anya's line "Our worst moments don't make us monsters" because Anya was saying that because of Jimmy. Like he was so disconnected that he really thought he was trying to do right by not even acknowledging what he did to Anya as the part of the problem.
Edit: It has been pointed out to me that there is a little error with the comment I made about the spiked drink in relation to Anya. The crew didn't have access to the mouthwash at the time so it wouldn't make sense for Anya to be taken advantage of that way. Anya asked Curly that there were locks in medical but not in the sleeping quarters and Curly answered "Safety". To add to that Anya even knew that the estimate of just under eight months so around that time, it's definitely sinking for her as to what happened.
So of course Jimmy would have found his way in to her room directly. There are locks in the cockpit and medical but not the sleeping quarters. The ship has all men and one woman. That design choice for the ship is very risky especially because the ship is in space for over a year. No wonder that to Anya locking herself in medical was the best decision she'll ever make.
Edit 2: It is plausible that Jimmy forced the painkillers into Curly's throat because he couldn't swallow them himself. Though I do want to point out Jimmy's other feelings toward Curly despite his admiration and respect for him. He is envious of him.
Curly had a conversation with Jimmy during his psych evals and Jimmy did mention that it was annoying hearing about how great of a leader Curly was. As the game progresses Jimmy
At 41:29 he lets it all loose basically saying that he feels like curly is leaving all of them behind. In a way also gaslighting him into thinking it's his fault for pony express letting them all go.
Later in the game while Jimmy is captain 57:33 he does acknowledge that Curly's is stressful. He's been taking in what it actually means to be in control and take responsibility every time he gives curly his meds.
Perhaps Jimmy didn't necessarily abuse curly, but he definitely felt threatened by his superiority as captain. I'm a little lost on why Jimmy cut off Curly's leg at 1:31:59, but I would say it is related to his envy because of his line "life isn't even worth living at the same level as us"

When you walk down to the cockpit the music slows down and distorts the further you go. I have never noticed that before. It was so cool. It’s implied by Jimmy’s conversation with Curly during the psyche evaluation that Jimmy has had a “struggle of a life” back on Earth. He expresses that he enjoys being co-pilot of the Tulpar because “we’re in control here.” When Curly delivers the news that the company is going out of business, Jimmy takes it personally and feels severely hard done by, not just by pony express but also by Curly himself. The sudden loss of control, coupled with the revelation that Anya is pregnant and the realisation his abuse will be revealed when the delivery is complete tips Jimmy over the edge. In a moment of selfish desperation, Jimmy intentionally causes the crash because he would rather die than face the consequences of or take responsibility for his own actions. He likely also wanted to ruin Curly’s potential legacy of being known as a good captain and hurt the rest of the crew out of pure spite and hatred. The line at the start “I hope this hurts” is most likely a thought from Jimmy’s mind.
This just brought another piece to the puzzle for me also add the low key hate Jimmy had for curly in the mix because that "all I keep hearing was how great for a captain you are" shows Jimmy didn't really like curly that much if he was getting the praise and not him

jimmy's had said to have no financial reasons to have hobbies going as far as i remember from what wrong organ had said in terms of mouthwashing the game and its characters. he could've been from a low-income class and he views those he finds luckier in terms of financial situation -- ie daisuke having a mom and dad to help him & curly being the literal ship manager/captain -- mostly punching down at those he directs his anger at. id also say that him getting into trouble back on earth / his 'struggle of a life' does have some... concerning implications when he's raped anya & made a spiked mocktail -- would he have been a convicted felon or someone who had gotten in trouble for assaulting others, similar to anya? the amount of jealousy he harbors towards those he sees as better than him does give me hold to see what factored into what he did and why he is the way he is

1:55:10 im so glad you make a point of this!!!!! curly knowing exactly what happened to anya and not doing anything BECAUSE he is jimmys best friend is incredibly symbolic, and is most of what makes curly a morally grey character. he watches as jimmy walks into the cockpit, and clearly knowing already about jimmys recklessness, lets him crash the ship. again, fully aware is what is happening but not doing anything and ignoring the red flags and Jimmy's actions. his pattern of just standing by and watching these bad things happen is answered after the crash as well, with his skin melted off and eyelids now wide open, he is made to feel like anya did. all he can do is watch, when he needs to act the most. hes stuck in this immobile body, is completely mute and obviously very traumatized. he gets the consequences for his actions, and in the end takes responsibility for what he did (letting jimmy get away with everything). basically jimmy is a freak and curly let him be one, so everyone else had to endure his abuse .

some things i noticed about anya:
- 14:32 every instance where jimmy feeds curly the medication, anya gets so uncomfortable that she has to leave the room. given the noises curly makes while taking the painkillers and also jimmy forcing him to take the medication, it reminds anya so much of what jimmy did to her that she has to leave the room and comfort herself
- 12:17 in every conversation between jimmy and anya after the assault, she stumbles her words, compliments him, lets him insult her, and apologizes when she doesn't have to. this is because she has no protection against jimmy, so her only way of defending herself from him is to try to avoid conflict between him as much as possible
- 44:25 I believe before jimmy came in, anya was confessing to swansea about what jimmy did to her. the way swansea says "oh, it's you" and anya attempting to hide her tears away from jimmy shows that she was being open to swansea, and doesn't want jimmy to see her vulnerability as an advantage
- 1:00:27 in the flashback of curly and anya discussing how long it will take for help to arrive, when curly says about 237 days, she points out that it will take eight months. this is the average time it takes to have a baby

To answer your question, Swansea and Daisuke didn’t know about the assault. Anya told Curly and he did nothing. Then, when she told him she was pregnant, he still chose not to do anything. It was only after Anya told Jimmy about her pregnancy that he was forced to do something but instead of reprimanding Jimmy, he tried talking to him. During their conversation, Jimmy hints at ending everything but Curly still does nothing. Jimmy then put the ship on a crash course to avoid jail time and Curly, in an attempt to FINALLY do something, was heavily injured in the cockpit, leading everyone to believe that Curly crashed them. Anya then told Swansea what happened to her when her and him were found together but by that point, Jimmy was already captain. This is also when Swansea started drinking more.
Finally a correct explanation. People in the comments keep saying “the whole crew knew”, obviously they didn’t. Only Curly knew at first, then we find out later that Anya had a conversation with Swansea about it only after Jimmy became the captain. That’s why Jimmy shot him, because he found out what he did to her. Daisuke never found out about it because he was never told.

Ohh my GAWD that makes soo much sense. I didn't notice Swansea started drinking more BECAUSE of the SA revelation, and THEN Jimmy shot him because he KNEW!?!?! I couldn't understand why Jimmy shot him. I thought Jimmy saw himself as a hero and didn't want Swansea to do jail time for killing Daisuke.
Something interesting that I noticed about Daisuke’s death is that Jimmy never once stepped into stop Swansea from killing him. Kubscoutz and Cory himself even pointed it out that Jimmy never once stepped in to stop Swansea from killing Daisuke. This is most likely because, as we all know as viewers, Jimmy is a narcissist and a selfish person who refuses to take responsibility for his actions as we’ve seen throughout the game play. For example, he SA’d Anya and refused to take responsibility for it, on top of that, didn’t even acknowledge her death. Another example of him not taking responsibility is when he chose to crash the ship instead of taking responsibility, he blamed the crash on Curly and led everyone to believe that Curly intentionally crashed the ship. So I think that Jimmy not stepping into stop Swansea from killing Daisuke was to take the responsibility off of his shoulders. Yes, it was inevitable that Daisuke would’ve bled to death and died but then, The blood would’ve been on Jimmy’s hands(Even though it’s still is). Jimmy allowing Swansea to kill Daisuke makes it to seem as if he is not responsible for Daisuke is death because Swansea is the one who killed Daisuke. He then called Swansea a monster and plays as if he’s innocent and could’ve saved Daisuke when everyone knows the reason why Daisuke was in the position he was in, was because of Jimmy. He continuously refuses to take responsibility for his actions and this is a blatant example of it.
I also think it's so interesting how when we finally see Anya's death, there isn't even an interaction toggle on her. Then Jimmy says he can't bear to look at Daisuke's blood - like bro does not give a single f about her does not even acknowledge her death, not even one comment on it.

This game is the perfect example of “Evil only prospers when good men do nothing.” I feel like during that conversations between curly and jimmy, I don’t think curly took him seriously, or at least didn’t WANT to believe that jimmy would kill himself and the whole crew to cover up his evil. But he was more than capable and had shown Curly that he was willing to take it there.

i am so glad the frustration of lack of reaction from curly and the crew, abt jimmy’s behavior to anya. Unfortunately, it is an extremely common reaction survivors go through especially in work environments. Curly is a good representation of the average, morally gray, man- having a need to hold accountability in the passive ways possible to the point where you do nothing at all. And even more complexity is added when you realize Jimmy and Curly are close friends.

Yes!! And the whole “99% kills” bit, which flashes on screen a few times? It’s literally talking about how trying to ‘fix’ something, when you’re not wiling to go the full way in order to fix it IS what do up killing in some scenarios. Curly talked about trying to fix things constantly throughout he game, especially when it came to Anya. But his loyalty too his friend and unwillingness to deal with Jimmy accordingly is what ended up hurting the ship the most.

1:55:17 Swansea did not know what Jimmy did at this point, only after he talked to Anya in the cockpit towards the beginning. Anya and Curly were the only ones who knew what Jimmy did but Curly physically couldn't speak and Anya was afraid of Jimmy and didn't want to stand up to him because he might hurt her, which is also why she points out how "capable" Jimmy is and generally sucks up to him, she's terrified of making him angry. Also, Curly was the only one who knew Jimmy crashed the ship, Jimmy lied to everyone about Curly doing it. The reason Jimmy so easily became captain is because everyone on board didn't know better or couldn't do anything to stop it.
That aside, what a great video! I was so happy seeing this pop up on my home page this morning, your reactions were absolutely priceless.

Oh man, I'm glad you brought up the way Anya constantly flattered Jimmy. Before the SA reveal, I initially thought she was just doing that to pass off the task of caring for Curly onto him but that clears things up. I can't imagine how awful it must've been to be in her position, having her abuser be in a position of power over her with so few people to go to for support, while dealing with the stress of having a life in her hands and hoping for a rescue.

Let me clear some things up, after finding out Anya was pregnant Jimmy not wanting to take “responsibility” for the baby and sa decided to crash the ship. Curly stepped in to save the ship resulting in his skin burning off which is why we see him the way we do. Why Curly didn’t do anything about it? He’s basically an enabler. He knew about what Jimmy did but because they’ve been friends for so long he decided to see the “good” in him instead of holding him for his actions. Jimmy took charge of the ship after Curly’s injury and flipped the story to make himself seem like the hero and Curly the villain.
Also can't gloss over the fact daisuke and Swansea had a secret affair in the cryo room

The ending line, “I fixed this.” is just the nail in the coffin for my hatred for Jimmy. The creators did a fantastic job of creating a horrific character.
The saddest part about Daisuke’s death is that Swansea really cared for him enough to let him go, not a lot of people could love someone enough to let them go and I’m proud this man loved Daisuke that much. It’s sad that he loved the kid more than his own parents did. (i repeated so much but it’s like frickin late ok cut me some slack)
i think it perfectly contrasts with jimmy’s hero complex and delusions because anyone else would have put curly out of his misery a LONG time ago, but jimmy kept him alive in that state for 5 freaking months!! all because he was convinced that he could “fix” everything. he “saved” curly, putting him in the pod with absolutely no consideration of what kind of life he was leaving him to live, and then decided that after he had “fixed” it he had absolved himself enough to end it all. the bitter irony of him calling swansea a monster for ending daisuke’s suffering while he selfishly prolonged curly’s for his own peace of mind.
I feel like Swansea was keeping that singular freezing machine or whatever it's called to Daisuke, but once he died he told Jimmy he could use it instead since it doesn't matter anymore

One thing I don't see people talking about is the stasis pod. I don't think Swansea was keeping it for himself. He always talked as if he knew he was at the end of the road and just wanted to go out having fun. He was most likely saving it for Anya after finding out what Jimmy did or for Daisuke who was just a kid that shouldn't even have been there.

A small correction, Swansea didn't know about the SA until he and Anya were talking in the cockpit (well after the crash), and Daisuke likely didn't know at all. Personally, I don't think Swansea would have sat back and allowed it to go unpunished, considering he already doesn't seem to care for Jimmy, and he does play a protector role in his own way. And even after Anya told him, they were coming up with a plan in private (The plan likely being to put Daisuke in the remaining cryo-pod and leaving Jimmy to rot). The only one who knew but did nothing was Curly. The "good man doing nothing." The exact kind of man monsters like Jimmy need to keep being monsters.

Jimmy's referring to how he could never measure up to Curly. That, even though he's in charge now, people still don't respect him because he's a crap captain. He puts his own worth in how he tries to be like Curly.
personally, i dont think swansea cared much to help anya and was making that plan just for daisuke’s sake. if he cared, he would have axed jimmy when he found out - after all, theyre all doomed and crashed anyways. why not get rid of the assaulter and tell daisuke what happened? he didn’t because he cared more for daisuke and the cryopod than anya’s situation.
A noble plan for sure but I feel like if anyone was the better choice to be put in the pod it would be her because then you'd be potentially saving 2 lives instead of one.

I heard from someone in tiktok that Swansea never intended to use the pod for himself, but rather for Daisuke. In the end of his (sort of) speech before Jimmy shot him, he said how he would've protected the kid, the kid meaning Daisuke, and how he wish to give Daisuke a small chance to get off the rock, by mean to put him on the pod. Notice how he said before he kill Daisuke that he was a “Useless ray of sunshine” or “You coulda taught an old fool like me a lot” was already a hint how he wanted Daisuke to use the pod in a hope to get out of the space.
Ps: Swansea was based of an actual swan because swans kill their kin when they got weaker to end their suffering.

From what I can tell:
- Curly is the absolute definition of "inaction is still action" mixed with "well he's my *bro* and I've known him for years, soooo..." Did he brush off what Anya said as a LIE? No. But did he take steps to actually deal with the situation in a good way (restricting Jimmy's access to literally ANYTHING, helping Anya take steps to do whatever she needed/wanted to do, etc.?) Also no. Not a good guy.
- We hate Jimmy. Next.
- Swansea didn't actually know what happened to Anya, I think, until the scene where Jimmy runs into Anya and Swansea talking about something. Because after that is when Swansea starts really shifting in how he speaks to Jimmy. He's an old man that's seen some of the worst of what humanity has to offer and has, as he said himself, let each instance just harden him. Make him meaner and rougher. Because that's just how some people cope with the world being the way it is. Not a bad guy, felt more like someone that wanted to emotionally support Anya because he felt he couldn't DO anything physically.
- Daisuke didn't know anything. He wasn't even supposed to BE on the ship; he was a last minute addition. Feel awful for him. Just a baby that was doing his best.

What a beautiful and poetic way to sum up Swansea. A man who was always so pessimistic, but truly had a pure, gentle soul. It’s also clear that by “always being on their way to hell”, the Tulpar played a part in said “Hell”. And honestly, what a goddamn masterpiece of a story. Every single room, every line of dialogue, all of it had so much symbolism and foreshadowing, and truly, pat on the back to the devs.
Reminds me of a Pretty Reckless lyric: "Don't care what happens when I die / As long as I'm alive."
I 100% agree with you about the dialogue. But, the final sequences when Jimmy is fully in some kind of psychosis is too wild to me. I don't think his hallucinations would have been as intense as the vagina-thing, much more like the TV scene.... It's either nonsensical or way too long of a stretch.

@57:28 - Hi, irl nurse here! That's just an extra strength Tylenol (paracetamol aka acetaminophen), hence the 500 mg. It's not in the same class of pain medication as oxycodone 10 mg that was being given earlier in the game. The max dose for Tylenol per day is 4000 mg for adults :)

I knew from the earliest moment Cory said “I don’t really like Jimmy” that this playthrough was gonna be top tier. Corey’s instincts & comprehension of the game made this one of my fav playthroughs. The plot was not lost on our boy Cory & this is why he’s goated, 10/10👏🏾

I don't think yall noticed but during the scenes where we're in the vent, we are literally playing as DAISUKE. he said that the vents are in terrible shape right? and the vents they look messed up😭.
it's nice to see anya's predicament and her isolation from the group being addressed. people say things like "well if swansea knew!" or if "daisuke knew! they would've dealt with jimmy, but it's clear that swansea WAS told and did nothing. with daisuke it's more difficult, his responsibilities with swansea effectively took up both of their time, making it possibly difficult for anya to approach swansea, and his naivety and the constant mention of how much younger he is than the crew probably a reason anya may not have wanted to tell him.
the tulpar crew's only woman was violated, isolated and killed. she was killed, even if she killed herself with the painkillers, anya was killed by irresponsibility. she said she wants to believe our worst moments didn't define us, but the player will only ever know her by her worst moments. the worst things to happen to her. anya was killed long before the painkillers.
She told only Curly at first, even before Jimmy.
Swansea learned of it later, but when you're on a space ship and these are the only people you can interact with, you can't easily take action (especially when Jimmy has the captain position).
It's very clear to me that Swansea was very angry at Jimmy. He just couldn't take action at the time. As he was also securing a way out for Daisuke.
Telling Daisuke wouldn't have helped Anya. But maybe he'd been someone to talk to.
Out of everyone, Anya did not get psyche evaluations. She started spiraling somewhere along the way. Maybe depression, maybe something else. But she lost hope in the end. And when you lose hope, you don't look for help.

Ok so you were correct about what jimmy did to Anya but jimmy crashed the ship because he didn’t want to take responsibility of what he did to Anya and curly did try to stop the ship being seen as the one who did it tho (note: Swansea was related to swans in real life, they kill their babies if they are too sick hence why he killed Daisuke)

1:25:58 so here, I can’t tell if anyone has said anything about this yet: but a lot of people suspected that Swansea was saving the cryopod for Daisuke. Whenever he’s talking to Anya in the cockpit and she said something like “I understand”, it’s speculated that he’s telling her about his plan to give that up for him. I’m sure, if this is true, then he DEF wouldn’t want Jimmy to know about it.
