I agree that the singer has 'Stevie Wonder' vibes... listen to 'Breakdown' - his range is incredible... the bass player has a great solo in 'Follow the Light'... 'Next to You' is another great one....

Welcome to the Dirty Loops fam! These guys are freaking amazing. You simply can't go wrong...and if you listen to reaction videos, the most pervasive comment you'll hear is how much fun they're having. It's infectious!

Man, you got a rabbit hole to go down with Dirty Loops. They don't make bad music at all. Since you like jazz, I'd recommend checking out their collabs with Cory Wong. They did an album with him and his horn section called "Turbo" (yes, it's on vinyl). Singles include "Follow the Light", "Ring of Saturn" (which is instrumental), "Turbo" (which is also instrumental), and a cover of MJ's "Thriller". Other DL songs I'd recommend are "Next to You", "Hit Me", and "Rock You". There's a bunch more, but I don't want to overwhelm you.

You referencing Stevie Wonder concerning his vocal phrasing is spot on. While he does a lot of little tributes to MJ with his voice, I have to think Stevie is his biggest single influence.

Yeah! His vocals in their cover of "Thriller" with Cory Wong are *absolutely* more Stevie than MJ

Thing about DL is that their songs are really different from each other but you can always hear it’s them. Never boring. Try “Next to you” next time and you’ll know what I mean.
And their covers from 2010 if Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Adele.. mind blowing.
And Jonahs solo project, like Bad (yes, MJ) and own song Diamond Ring with Steve Vai.
And so on and so forth. Trust me, you will never be bored, always surprised.

My good man you have just opened the door to the wonderful world of Dirty Loops. These musicians are masters of their craft and first came on the scene about 10 years ago just posting videos on RUclips. Those videos got millions of hits. You're going to hear plenty of suggestions so I will merely say you can't go wrong with any DL song. Quite literally there are no bad ones. Really enjoyed your reaction and welcome most genially to the DL club. P.S. you got my sub.

If this were your first time listening to DL, the mellow intro to this song would give you absolutely no indication that you are about to be slammed into your chair. You've been Loopified!!!

Oh yeah the Stevie comparison is pretty spot on, good stuff! These guys are so all around talented, met at the same music school and they are just having so much fun together it comes out in their music

These Sweden boys are some talented dudes. You definitely get a better appreciation of their musicianship and energy in video. All of their stuff is good, check it all out. Another group you need to check out is Snarky Puppy. Start with Lingus, then What About Me, then Sleeper. These are some great musicians, too.

To answer yoour question about how much was recorded live and how much on set. This will probably blow your lid back completely but 100% of their tracks have always been sheet music written first, then they record their parts. usually its Aaron and Jonah writing, then they send to Henrick to "do his bass thing" on, then they record it together.
But they've said in quite a few interviews, the process is pretty strict, and always sheet music first.

Please do check out all other songs, as described by Jamila. I would also suggest you checking out "Songs for lovers - coffee break is over" and "Songs for lovers - Bitten by the kitten"
Welcome to heaven - and the most fantastic rabbit hole to visit! :-)

This is the most ”intellectual” song DL has made with a lot off jazz influences. They usually have more funk and soul in their songs. DL have tried many different genres, listen to Next to you and you will understand what I mean. Keep on. I’m looking foreward to your reaction of Breakdown and Next to you. 💕

You're not wrong when you hear some Stevie vibes in Jonah's voice he's definetely influenced by Stevie but also MJ. They began uploading videos here on YT some 10 years ago or so when they did covers of songs from the '80s or more contemporary like Adele or Justin Bieber. Needless to say those videos went super viral and like everyone from Quincy Jones to David Foster were singing their praises and the latter one kinda took them under his wings as his protégés. It was some very intensive years so they felt the need of a break which lasted for a couple of years. Then they came back with new stuff some years ago like this song and now they're out on the streets touring.
