Some of the plagues that happened were so severe because people were washing their hands in the same bowl of water, recirculating germs. Granted, much of the vocabulary and names for things that are used aren't modern, but the information is still useful. I'm sure that they're not going to be teaching them Revelation or Ezekiel, but many of the books have great stories to learn valuable life lessons. Growing up with morals isn't a bad thing, it's much needed in this world.

Semmelweis discovered that handwashing with a chlorinated lime solution could reduce the mortality rate in the maternity ward. People were sharing washing basin water, bath water, and using community tooth brushes into 19th century and likely later in the US.
