The good thing about the M10's turret traverse is that it's the same with and without power. No more pesky engine shots ruining your aim.

Fun fact, when they first introduced the engine shutdown mechanics into War Thunder the turrets would slowdown even on manually cranked turrets, or even just guns mounted on a pivot.
@@Adenzel Not mentioning the fact Gaijin got lazy and just copied the same mechanic to all tanks, ignoring the fact quite a few of them (especially modern MBTs) had auxiliary turret drive motors independent on the engine = their turret traverse should be the same even with a disabled engine.

It’s alright. I found it pretty resistant to arty and 50 cals too, and the depression is supreme. It isn’t that versatile and it’s slow, but really fun when playing on a hilly map. Especially against the Russians!

@@MrJuunasBrah Can't tell if you're trying to make a joke, but electric turrets don't waste extra fuel. It just uses the engines power which would waste the same amount of fuel with or without the electric drive.

@@owo1744 I guess it does make sense to have the turret be fully functional with an auxillary power unit rather than knocked out if the engine is knocked out, but was that the case for the avg ww2 tank? I think I read the panther drained engine power or something. I guess I assumed most did.

Hey Phly, at 0:14 the time-delay fuse of that APHE was activated upon impacting the driver's optics, and then the charge was set off when the shell barely penetrated the sloped armor. That's why it seems the shell did not explode.

@@doktork3406 Yeah, I agree with you that in-game physics suck but you will notice that the shell had a ricochet on the upper side of the optic and then hit the sloped armor at an extreme angle if you replay the video at 0:13 at x0.25 speed. Just imagine an APHE round with 141mm penetration capacity hit a sloped armor of 141mm effective thickness - the round got stuck inside the steel plate with its tip barely made it through, and the tiny charge exploded, throwing limited amount of fragments into the hull.

Little M10 history, it is a hand crank turret because the army was trying to save money while getting the 3 inch gun in service and was only meant to be temporary but most units wanted it over the m18 and even the m36. The hand crank turret was not a big deal because the tank destroyers were a reactionary force and were held in reserve in case anything got past the first wave.

Phly the M10's turret was traversed manually, in 1943 they installed a hydraulic power traverse system (same as used on the Sherman) on a M10 but soon it would be replaced by the M36 and thus there was no need to further improve the M10
one thing to point out is that the British used the Achilles until the end of the war and so it would make sense for them to have proposed the upgrade to the British, unless they didn't think the slow traverse was a problem

Oh man. I just started crying in the middle of a game of War Thunder. The battlefield was Berlin. A very realistic ACCURATE model of a destroyed Berlin, around the end of WW2. I was trying to flank a Russian tank, when I suddenly realized the area looked very familiar. It was an area that I had been to, and had good memories of. It was the plaza behind the Brandenburg Tor, near the Reichstag. Everywhere I looked in the ruins, I recognized what it was. I have only been playing two weeks and am not very familiar with the maps. At least I was able to get away with a pretty cool nickname, SwordOfPork.

Phly, if you are looking for a video idea, play the He-112 V-0 with the AP belts in ground RB. Its 20mm has 46mm of pen and at BR 1.3, it destroys any tank it sees at this BR.

fun fact : if the M10 was on an incline greater than like 10 degrees IRL , the turret wouldn't rotate , the Center of mass is not on the center of rotation and it will rotate like you expect it to , that's because the lack of an electrical turret drive

M10, as a new player ( shorty ago ) , the turret traverse is killing you as you lack the skills to predict what the other guy going to do. Played 1 game with it , ran away to .. indeed, a Sherman .
I've had the APHE not exploding thing happen lately, but mostly it seems when I'm using 85mm guns against panthers or tigers

Found out a little bit ago that you can open a KV-1's breech anywhere with the M10, even at range. I killed one at 850m by shooting the top of its breech twice

Phly i did something meta changing. I took the su-100y and a asu-57 and ran over the asu with box tenk so that i can drive with the asu under me. Make sure u drive the asu forward into the front of the box tenk so that the asu faces backwards. If someone comes up behind u the asu can pop out and suprise them or turn around and run at them from the front while they are reloading.

I can't express in words how much I want to see a new "tank tag" mode where we shoot paintball rounds at each other. (Germany shoots yellow paint, USSR shoots red paint, France shoots blue paint, etc.)

The M10 is what I used to grind out the Brits when they were in closed beta. It has its weaknesses, but it's pretty good if you make use of its sniping ability.

The M10 is a hand crank turret with a bit of electric traverse just a little bit.
I believe there were only two instances where i was killed bu an M-10.
As a player who plays russian tanks and german tanks, I used to identify M-10s and Panzer IV F2 as literal fireworks.
Tank RB can't be only tanks cuz some planes are designed as ground attack and have literally no use in Air matches, like the Me262 a1/au-1
No the A1/U1 works great on Air RB but you can try to do CAS but the A1/U4 is specifically made for ground attack as it only has the 50mm as it's armament

I see it when it doesn't explode properly as it just exploding part way through the armour instead so just acts kinda like a heat and spalls the inside with shrapnel

I remember when i used m10. Man, that is excellent tank. You can penetrate frontal armour of almost every tank at that rank. Turret is really bouncy, so most shells fired at turret wont penetrate you, or they will but they will only destroy cannon bridge. But best thing with this tank is its round. It penetrates everything, and explode inside killing every crew member.

Ive once got a perfect dead on shot at a stug III engine with my T-34 1942, and it destroyed the two things on either side of it, but the engine was just fine. Only just barely reloaded before he could get his side angled too much
M36 is m10 with even bigger gun and a turret travers that is actually noticable
Me : Peeks behind a rock and get obliterated by every enemy in a 2 km radius and rarely gets a kill
Fly : Gets to the most open position in the game, somehow bounces 2 shots of a 88mm FLAK truck, misses only 2 shots, gets several kills, and not any ennemy manages to touch him even if he is not moving

I think they explode inside Ivan or Ivan's fueltanks, which work as a shield and stop the shrapnel. Ivan stronk
