There are two types there one is local deployment, configuring log miner on source db and another one is downstream, log miner will be on separate db and this feature is only oracle to oracle.
Yes correct..logminer could be configured on seperate server and this feature is for Oracle DB only..For non Oracle database the extraction mode is classic extract
