Good morning. This is Ted from Texas. I am one of the followers of Wanda hussy and pin in the atlas. I do appreciate seeing all the beautiful scenery in the adventures you go on, all of you. But I do worry tremendously about running into the wrong type of people in the middle of the desert. I am glad most of you guys carry some type of protection. But I think you should carry it on your hip when walking around. Being an ex Law enforcement officer I always have my head on a swivel. Please be safe out there

It seems to me by the way you are describing it that if something had happened it wasn't planned. I would carry at all times even when you think you are alone. I was camping with my son. He was 4 and I am female. We started to go on a hike to the waterfalls. I started to get an uneasy feeling. A terrible feeling and all my alarm bells were going off. I don't remember seeing anyone. I told him that I thought we should turn around because I think the waterfall was too far. He went happily along. I know I made the right decision and it still freaks me out 17 years later.

I have traveled alone for years. NEVER say you are alone. ALWAYS say that your significant other is meeting you, right around the corner, should be pulling in any minute, had to go for a potty break etc.; your friends should be back from their hike anytime; you need to run as your family is waiting for you down the road, etc. Also may want to remove your social info off the jeep. Seriously consider open carry when you are out alone with Little One in the middle of nowhere. Also rattlesnack season is upon us, so good to be armed so you both won't get hurt. So glad you have your sidearm!

Listen to me...I used to teach classes dealing with these scenarios.......the text book maneuver you should've done would have been, stop & get that gas but then keep driving. You keep driving until you need to stop for gas again! "Eff" where you're going to sleep that night! Cuz there will be no sleep tonight.....ya get it?
Security / Safety always comes first! So in this scenario, you flee from the threat...and you just keep fleeing! Nevermind stopping somewhere to re-group...it's not safe, so you drive all night. Plenty of time in the morning to "re-group", figure things out, find a new place to sleep, etc.
Good job though packing heat! And for trusting your inner gut!
Also very important, don't ever upload videos from where you are currently at! Be happy, be well, be safe!

    • @PennyEv4
      @PennyEv4 8 месяцев назад +10

Jeepsey did a fantastic job following her instincts and staying safe. It's good advice to flee, but you shouldn't drive in a panic or you could end up out of petrol in the middle of nowhere or so tired you make poor decisions.( especially if you are in an area that has limited phone service). Regrouping in a safe, public area seems like a smart thing to do.

if something is transmitting, there are pretty inexpensive detectors to check for them or the police might even do an inspection for you, given the circumstances. If it's just a recorder, then they'll have to find it to retrieve it and if they lose sight of you a GPS tracker is pointless because the tracker is on you and you lost them.
If you do find one, take it off and put it on a truck headed to alaska.

There was a Dude standing in the Arroyo 4 ft from my van. Tweaker looking guy and that startled the living #hit outta me. I startled him as well 😲 he was clearly scoping my campsite. I had a side arm and then he asked for some water in which way the highway was? Well from where I was camping you can see the highway 2 mi down in the valley so.. I watched him walk off in the opposite direction of the highway further out into the desert and I packed my stuff up and I left. This is a place that I have camped every winter for years. However, ever since that happened it has left me unsettled and not feeling very good about anywhere I park now. Stay safe Nomads, the creepers have left the cities..

One of your videos just happened to pop up while I was browsing through RUclips so I’ve watched a couple now. I really like your Jeep and you have a really nice way about you as well. It really concern me when you said that you kept your protection in your Jeep. What if you can’t get to it. If I were out there walking around alone, I for sure would have that protection on my body at all times.

good call, happened to me once I was camping in a fire tower alone, some guy at the gas station, got more info out of me than needed, kinda ran into him later on the way to the tower, got to the tower and thought, screw it, not worth it. I left like you and drove all night to get away. I also had a big dog and a shotgun and bear spray, but weirdos get you by surprise. Glad you are okay. good call!!

So glad you took off and nothing more serious occurred. I'd consider reporting the issue on iOverlander, even as Anonymous, to help others who might consider camping there or in the area. As a solo (and remote) camper, maybe reconsider and have the protection "on you" especially if anyone is approaching and you're solo. Perhaps you could also have video cameras pointing to the outside of jeep, so if you see anyone approaching, you can roll the cameras. Just some thoughts. Sorry you went through this ordeal, safe travels.

Women modify their lives constantly to account for male behavior. From not walking at night , to career decisions, to social interactions , to online 0:15 behavior, women make adjustments in every aspect of their lives, because a man at some point has given them a reason to. Women have to go with their gut. …..stay safe♥️❤

You did good. Tip: Careful with the bear spray in stressful situations like this one. If you have to use it be mindful of the wind direction, you don’t want the wind to blow the spray towards you rendering you incapacitated and defenseless. Don’t let this situation bring you down..keep on keeping on.

    • @goldfieldgary

Good point about the wind. To minimize this, always choose a can of bear repellent that comes out of the can as a stream, not a spray.

Lots you can do to warn the preditors. Your a tourist, so grab your camera or cell phone like your taking pictures of the scenery. Let them know you think nothing of filming them. Take a picture of their license plate as your driving off. Don't talk to them. "I'm just leaving." Or pretend your not afraid and getting something out of your truck - then when your in your truck high tail it outta of there. Don't be shy about getting a picture of them or their license. Once you got that you can ID them and they will think twice. Keep a man's hat on the passenger side.

Remember, though, if someone is camping in a remote, deserted area, bad people can shoot their dog. No one will hear their gunfire. If it's a group like in this case, there's no way anyone can handle all of them. Never, ever put yourself in a situation where there's no cell phone service. Think about getting a satellite phone. This stop was wrong from the start. Good advice from others to take your info off of your jeep, don't upload a video when you're still there, and never engage anyone. Keep that hole puncher on your body. Not in your side console. If you're in an accident, who knows where it'll end up.

A couple years back, I was out exploring in north Texas close to the Oklahoma border. I found a good free camp spot which was part of the LBJ Grasslands around Coffee Mill Lake. I decided to hammock camp and had my 270 degree awning deployed and had my pew pew sitting on my ice chest right next to my hammock. Perfect night, until about 11PM and two trucks and one car rolled up and all the headlights were right on me. They all just sat there for a good 5-10 minutes idling and headlights shining on me. I poked my head out of my mummy bag. It was all dirt roads to get to the spot and the car was very out of place. They finally backed up, then pulled over to another spot. Then I heard one get out and walk to another truck. He was dressed in military type garb and was speaking middle eastern. They had a CB or HAM radio and starting to have a conversation over the radio. I could hear the other person replying in same language. I slowly got dressed and went over to my drivers door to get my extra ammo. magazine and was trying to plan for my escape in case things went south. I couldn't just jump in my vehicle and go because of the awning. I had the interior lights disabled for when opening the doors, so I just hunkered down behind the door. I had 30 rounds and my back was to the lake. I was blocked in. Fortunately, after about 30 minutes and the trucks/car never shutting off their engines and lots of conversation over their radio in some middle eastern language, they all left. As soon as it was clear, I packed up and drove home. I got home at 2-3AM and was pretty shaken up.
To this day, I wonder if they saw my handgun and were sizing up the situation. It could have been that I was in their meeting place and interrupting their plans. It was that same "feeling" and intuition you had.

I always set out TWO chairs and imply my buddy is out hiking and eyeballing the camp. You can set an extra hat on the dash in front of the passenger seat. Pretend to talk on the phone and tell them you are checking in with family/friends and sending geo co-ords even if you dont have service. They dont know. Tell them ya gotta go meet you cousin whos a local deputy for lunch. He is expecting you and knows where you are right this minute.
