I’m not a knife salesman but now I’ve been buying some pocket knives lately because of this movie. I just watched this movie this year for the first time on Monday January 1st and seeing Robert De Niro as Gil Renard as a knife salesman when he’s showing the knives the company he works for is selling, I thought the scenes when he’s showing the knives are really interesting so I’ve been buying pocket knives lately.
Well kayaks and knives fit into the camping / outdoors category, so the question wasn't completely off the mark. Stanley didn't know that Gil only sold knives.
Sans the maniacal anger, this type of scene probably played out alot in major chains across America. A huge company like Gerber or Leatherman nails gets a major contract and puts the smaller company out. Too bad Gil wasn't smart enough to pitch selling the knives on the internet, he could have made a killing.
This issue also happen in USA? Big companies shattered the opportunities for the smaller business to get shares by offering bigger contracts towards the major players ...
@@darkjedi7 Yeah this happened alot in the 80s and 90s. Put tons of small companies out of business. The big problem that kickstarted it was the smaller retailers got clobbered by chain retailers.
@@underwaterlevelz1947 but there has to be some kind of financial or business aid from the gov't? At least they could offer them contract to ensure the small business don't die

Selling knives on the internet in 1996? How many customers? lol!
In 1996 there was no internet to speak of, except for AOL which was all chat rooms.
