How do you count years in Korea? Jaejoong turned 37 on January 26 this year. I watched a video a from 2015 where he was celebrating his birthday /29 birthday/ but the cake said 30. Тhere are other examples as well. Why is that?

Basically in Korea when you're born, you're 1 year old. On your first anniversary, you're 2. So Jaejoong is 37 everywhere else aroud the world, but 38 in Korea.

Koreans add 1 year to their age. They count the pregnancy as 0 to 1 when born. At least that's what I've heard.
Sometimes they add 2 years. Basically when u r born they count day 1 as age 1. And then for some ppl, Korean or non-korean, u might round off your age base on it being a new year (when it turns 1/jan). So if u turn 33 on 1st of July this year, u might say u are 34 starting on 1st of Jan when technically u r still 32 legally. Because +1 year Korean age & +1 year round off age. So on their bday it's their actual age +1 year only.
