Very interesting, one of the narrators sounded like Vincent Price.
Could you imagine the horror those poor guys experienced? I mean, just imagine being one of those pilots, and what would be going through your mind, right before having to ditch the plane, in dark, rough seas. 😐.

I remember watching this (in color) as part of Episode 20 of Season 3 of Nova's (PBS) documentary series titled "The case of the Bermuda Triangle" ... all the way back in 1976! Larry Kusche convinced me, a teenager at the time, that the Triangle mystery was just a hoax ... a moneymaker for those who would make money off of the drama. The final few seconds sums it up: "Science does not need to find the answers to the questions posed by the triangle, because those questions aren't valid in the first place." I had a color copy of the Nova episode but had to wipe my device. I wish I could find another good copy. Well done ...

This case has always confused me. They lifted off at 2pm. They would have climbed out and reached cruise speed of 150mph at their target alt before reaching the bomb target island. This would have taken roughly 40-45mins to target. So now its roughly 245pm. They were to proceed 73mi east before turning north. It was cryptic what exactly the weather was during the exercise but they said later that evening (After they had been "lost" for awhile) the weather worsened. Certainly they wouldn't have asked them to do a training flight, with new pilots, in bad weather. Since they didn't have fancy navigation equipment back then......wouldnt they be flying under the cloud ceiling to have visual land markers to fly by? Particularly when he first questioned his position. I would assume the pilot had full knowledge of landmasses in that area. Also the sun was still up for the greater part of this flight. Not one person took note of sun position to figure out east and west directions? The whole thing seems against common sense and seemed avoidable. Ive seen the bit on magnetic interference with compasses. I still find it hard to believe a seasoned pilot was relying solely on compasses the entire time.

The greatest mystery is just how Taylor could have thought himself over the Florida keys but yet only have had just made the turn to return home. .Think about it?...How could have an experienced pilot have not understood that an journey to the Florida Keys from his northerly position should have took an certain amount of time?..Instruments failed or otherwise how didn't Taylor appreciate that distance to the keys takes time?..and do bear in mind he had several other pilots with him so why didn't they note this very simple fact either?.

Before Taylors. He was heading south west back to base and the radio contact was getting weak because Taylor was Heading North East! He passed Pensacola's keys and then turned south west to great Salem keys then back to North East out to the Atlantic! They crash landed in the water. And that's at 715pm.

Taylor didn't know the area he just was transfered and was a flight instructor after flight school!!!! WTF! They made him and instructor in one year. Then you had 2 captains on that flight! They could have taken charge over him!!! One captain said dam it if we head west we would get home! This odd ball would not listen to the ground crew or the other Captains in fight 19 or Lieutenant Cox he was coming back with his flight after
