I worked as an aginging warehouse technician out at buffalo trace for 3 years. Pappy Van Winkle special reserve is actually hand selected W.L. Weller barrels from the Pappy family. With that in mind, save your money on Pappy. It's just weller with a high price tag and longer aging.
I remember my 1st time tasting Old Forester. I tasted it blind next to an $80 Wild Turkey product. The Old Forester 100 is always in my cabinet. It's great to sip, and makes a mean old fashioned.
Because there are without a doubt better Whiskeys/Whiskys out there. The best whisky I have ever had was a 26 year aged Glen Fiddich, and I didn't even pay for it. That bottle runs north of $500 these days. Jeffersons reserve is around $55 dollars a bottle. That bourbon is hands down better than any of the bourbon he tried here. To sit there and say there aren't better bottles of Whiskey/Whisky out there is just plain false.
@@frogmanpipes9561 both of your “daddies” will definitely kick you out of the basement if you get on the computer again without permission. And don’t worry about drinking and shopping. Puberty is much closer for you to worry about!
Old Forester 100 and Wild Turkey 101 are hands down, the best bang for your buck if you're looking for a quality bourbon under $25. OF 1910 & 1920 are truly phenomenal, but they'll also run $60 a bottle.
@@samn5362 Obviously, which is why I said, "the best bang for your buck if you're looking for a quality bourbon under $25." It's not about comparing 101 to Rare Breed.
Try the 1792 whiskey, it’s ONE OF MY FAVS… you did pick 3 of my favs tho!! Buffalo trace, old forester, and Elijah Craig.. but definitely try 1792. It is amazing.!! I’m glad we agree on taste. I’m a huge bourbon fan.
Knob Creek 9 and 12 years, Four Roses Single Barrel, Wild Turkey Rare Breed, OF 1920 & 1910, WR Double Oaked, Rittenhouse Rye - my go to’s Old Grand Dad 114 - barrel proof bourbon at a great price and it’s a high rye mash bill. Right around $40 - absolute banger
The Old forester is my favorite out of this line up. Their 1910 and 1920 are phenomenal. Johnny Drum to me has some herbal notes that throws some people off. Surprised you liked it.
If you can find the Elijah Craig Rye it's delicious! There seems to be a shortage of it in Michigan currently. I went to 3 stores tonight looking for it and couldn't find even a single bottle! I still have a half a bottle so it's not panic time yet. After tomorrow with the in-laws will be panic time lol.
Couple things, definitely do a rye edition and also do a cask strength edition. You seemed to like higher proof so Cask Strength seems up your alley. For ryes, sagamore double oak is amazing, Rittenhouse rye, rare breed rye, Sazerac rye, all good options Also, if you want to smell less alcohol, when you go to smell it, open your mouth slightly, it should be less harsh.
Can't wait for your future Rye video! I've heard nothing but great things from the Sagamore Distillery. You should also try some from the American Malt Whisky category and Texas Whisky as well.
For under $30 the new Jack Daniel’s bonded rye is phenomenal! Ryes are generally 2 categories. Straight or finished. Finished ryes are fun to try because there’s so many of them. For a finished rye I’d highly recommend Barrel Seagrass. It’s not cheap but it’s worth it.
@@evanwigerYou would be surprised. Old No7 sucks, but their Single Barrel, Barrel Strength in both the bourbon and the rye are great. I’ve been hearing good things about their bonded line as well. Plus, you would be surprised how many brands of whiskey are made from JD barrels.
I bought a bottle of Benchmark Bonded last week. It was ~$19 in North GA. It is a pretty darned good bourbon. I still prefer Evan Williams bottled in Bond, but the BM was a nice change. My go to splurge Bourbon is Larceny, most of the time it is under $30.
I am more of a Woodford Reserve Evan Williams myself, but love all bourbons. If you want some rye in it, Woodford Reserve has some. I want to say 30%. Not under $40 though I don't believe, more in the $45 range. The Double Oak is the bomb, but definitely not under 40, more in the $55-$60 range, but worth every penny. Of course any bourbon is not going to be all rye, or mostly rye, as in order for it to be called bourbon it has to be at least 50.1% corn. Pretty sure Woodford is 55% corn, 30% Rye, 15% barley. Been awhile since I have been there. They do make a Rye Whiskey however.
I like Old Forster so much , one time i got the bottle as present, shame that is not available in Europe, is so hard to get here , but i would buy it everytime over Johnnie ,jack or Jameson
One surprisingly good rye, is Crown Royal North Harvest Rye. I tasted exactly what they mentioned, and it has a sweet, fruity, sorta floral smell it. Almost like it's trying to be the "apple pie" of rye whiskey, with apple being the lower taste. It ain't that bad, at all.
Basil Hayden's Dark Rye, is a pretty decent one, so is Knob Creek small batch Rye. I would pick 4-5 Ryes you might like, I would do $60 and under, and do a blind taste test of them head to head so that way, there will be no outside influence at all on which one you ultimately like the best.
Bought a Weller's 12, the other day for $43.95(hard to find, lucked out), but my go to sipper and everything else is Old Forester 100 proof, and old grand dad 114 will beat most in the $50.00 market.
Personally I am a fan of the Benchmark Full Proof. Here local its about $25 a bottle and comes in at 125 proof. I had low expectations from it and was pleasantly surprised.
Ol Forester 86 is the best bang for the buck bourbon hands down! I've done the research and have the documents! Cheaper than the 100 in the video and better in my opinion.
In my opinion if you can find Weller in general then congrats because in PA you can't find it for sh because all the bourbon snobbs around and everybody goes crazy for it

I really like Four Roses small batch

That’s the one that Paulie likes in all the Rocky movies. I have yet to try it.

I never understood why people need to drink expensive whiskey when cheaper stuff like this can be just as good or better😊
Cuz when they have money they spend it on the most expensive thing possible, same when broke people get a extremely big check, yk.

Old Grandad 114! Best bottom

Yup. The only other bargain bourbon I like nearly as much is Jim Beam Devil's Cut, but that's only 90 proof.
Ive always stood by Wild Turkey 101. But I've got a bottle of that 114 too, it'll get you where you need to go.
Jack Daniels, Nashville Barrel Company, and Sagamore Spirits are making my favorite Ryes. Loved the video!
I enjoyed the Old Forester 1920 version bourbon Whiskey one of my favorites hands down! 😁
No matter what I try I keep going back to the Wild Turkey 101. For me, it’s number 1 followed by Jim Beam, Jack Daniels, and Evan Williams.
