    The MY2024 Volvo xc40 recharge will come with a NACS adapter for use with Tesla Superchargers. Not that you _should_ be fast-charging the battery most of the time. Charging a few nights a week at home suits most EV owners

    The real competition here for the ICE version is the BMW X1. The X1 runs $5-$15K less, is peppier, roomier, quieter, smoother riding. But suffers from lag/lurch from a stop, which is not completely eliminated by the XC40 mild hybrid. Comes down to extra bucks for trim features that might appeal.

    Still a really smart design and way more practical and functional than the competition. It's the thoughtful touches like the waste bin and bag hook in the glove compartment that really makes it feel buttoned up on top of a useable space and specs. The Molten Orange interior was way ahead of the game too.

    AWD XC40s are a bit more capable off-road than most options in the segment.
    They won't impress Jeep people of course, but tricky, rutted out forest service roads are manageable.

    I choose this car as my next company car. I live in Europe and the Tesla infrastructure is not that big in my area. I would say that in my area charging infrastructure is still far behind but I never do a lot of road (5 years with my old car, 55000km) so electric made sense and I can charge free of charge at my work and on the road.
    BMW i4 was my other choice but decided not to take it because I enjoy a larger booth and the Volvo XC40 got an update giving it more range, ...
    Tesla was a close third but decided not to take it because it does not have ultrasonic sensors and I have trouble with depth perception. At the time the highlander model for the model 3 was not yet announced.

      No doubt on the Reliability.
      Furthermore the safety has fallen behind the Subaru Outback and Forester.
      Most Volvo’s are no longer made in Sweden, but in China.
      The 240D Volvo was the safest and most reliable vehicle on the road in the 80s and 90s.

      Most Volvos are not made in China. Only S90 is made there. S60 is made in the US as well as some XC90 models. XC40 is mostly made in Ghent, Belgium and the rest are made in Torslanda, Sweden. The reliability of Volvos with B5 or T5 (or smaller) engines is great, so are the diesels you can still find in Europe. Old T8 that is super- and turbocharged isn't very reliable, and I don't know anything about the electric powertrains. @@Doc1855

    Tesla will soon be opening many of its supercharger locations to most manufacturers via an adapter, and then most manufacturers will replace the CCS port with a Tesla NACS port in 2025. So I think the charging question is going to be a lot simpler soon. There are already magic-dock superchargers in upstate NY which I've used which require no adapter from the drivers side.

    • @karacha

      I already addressed that in my answer to one your comments above. Let me re-iterate: @Doc1855 Most Volvos are not made in China, in fact only S90 of the current models is made there. XC40 is mostly made in Ghent, Belgium, and the rest are either made in the US (in their new South Carolina plant) or Torslanda, Sweden. As far as other products made in China go... IDK. iPhones seem to be pretty good, for example. ;) @@Doc1855

      Yes, but it’s still owned by the Chinese, no matter where it’s built

    • @karacha
      @karacha 5 месяцев назад

      Now we're discussing two different things. The cars are designed in Sweden and made in Sweden, Belgium and the US. They are extremely well made. Volvo used to be owned by Ford, and so far the 78% Geely ownership is proving to be a lot better for Volvo in terms of quality and reliability than Ford. This particular model, XC40, is generally seen as one of the very best subcompact SUVs on the market by most established automotive magazines/experts. @@Doc1855
