It takes a lot of self control to withhold judgement and think objectively about other people. Though it's certainly a much better way to live life. The world can certainly use a little less fast judgement.

Psych stuff, now that’s something I do have a little experience in, lol.
I worked in the mental health field for a number of years with kids and you have to check your ego, preconceived notions, etc at the door or you will fail miserably. Your personal biases should have no business being involved when trying to help someone.
Agreed on your assessment regarding the media, etc regarding situations like this, you cannot make a judgement, if at all, until you know the full story. Even then, is it our place to criticize or berate someone? However, I think it may be human nature to do this.
Now, speaking somewhat on the same topic, I volunteer with our states Natural Resource Police and I have overheard on the radio of numerous times an officer has to go rescue lost hikers, etc.
Being human, I usually get the same thoughts of “what were they thinking or doing”???? However, I almost always try to talk with the officers to see what happened and why. Sometimes it’s just the hikers were just ill prepared and other times there were other issues taking place.
Btw, Carl Jung was an absolutely brilliant man and he was so spot on with what he said. My very first supervisor in the field, was trained by one of Mr. Jung’s students 😊
