I watched this performed in Carnegie Hall with a choir of about 300 under the direction of Jeffery L. Ames. I have truly no words to describe it. The best part was at the very end. Nobody clapped. Nobody cheered. The sound just resonated through the hall. It wasn’t until every hand was dropped from their chests and they stood still did the applause begin. It was truly a dream come true to listen to this piece as I never thought I would be able to in all my days.
I had the incredible experience of performing this piece with the 2022 NAfME honor choir, and it was honestly one of the best moments I’ve ever had in my (albeit short) life. Nothing can ever compare to the feeling of being surrounded by 200 other singers producing the most ethereal harmony on earth. It felt like my soul was transcending from my body onto some other plane of existence. It was the only time I had ever shed tears in a performance.
I almost forgot how important this piece is to me. There are tears running down my cheeks and I cannot sniff silently. Thank you for making me realize something.
Not only thinks it's acceptable or appropriate, but loves to be seen to be the first to clap, because it shows that the fool doing it likes to be seen to know when the music is ending. Same with the open mouthed coughing that some people in audiences love to do. Pass the socks.
Oh my goodness gosh!!!! I was taken by complete surprise!!! Absolutely one of these most brilliant scenes of human expression, inclusion, and synergy. Heavy heart after that one....
Absolutely great! The hand gestures really add a wonderful element We ARE our hands! The oblique ending is an incredible experience. Thank you so much. Kudos!
Just saw Susquehanna university do this piece. It was stunning and you have to be there to truly feel the musical beauty. Their rendition was just astounding
Well, well, well. What a surprise. Shouldn’t be surprised though considering the source. Eric Whitaker is quite wonderful and this choir is outstandingl. Will play this over and over letting this surprise arrangement sink in!
We're going to do this song for our spring concert in march. I'm really nervous. Not only because this is a challenging piece for the choir (not me in particular) but most of the people in my choir are idiots and can't project their voices
There not supposed to be. Bach wrote this song with that ending in mind. Everyone sings at their own pace and it ends when they feel like it. It creates some breathe taking dissonance and has a powerful effect.
Buradaki versiyonu Rhonda Sandberg'in koral düzenlemesi. Koreografi de şef Edwin London yönetimindeki koreografi. Çok bilmişlik taslamadan önce aç biraz araştır olur mu?

Absolutely breathtaking! You only have to look at Eric's face to see how moved he is by the performance.

Such a magical piece. During that choir solo, you start hearing things...like sounds that would just spring out of nowhere. Amazing...

I did this for All-State choir. It gave me chills every time. So memorable.
I watched all of your videos here, but I certainly did not expect to be rendered speechless after this one! I am in awe...
There's always that one person who thinks it's okay to clap before letting it set in. I hate that. They totally ruin the moment.
ahh the americana way of life
@@marnixpeeters2675 that's actually a Turkish Choir and the concert is in Istanbul :)
@@onurerdinc115 oops :p my bad

You can’t always control whether your mouth will open when you cough, lol.

I also just watched them do this at PMEA. Incredible.
That was truly something special

Harmonies of the spheres! Love it Bravo Whitacre!
I did this for all-district choir. It was truly amazing.
I was there! I'm from Stanberry
Small world😀
Will be singing this song for my choir and I'm so scared we aren't going to be this good
So great, thank you
An astounding performance.
Wer da klatscht hat nicht begriffen, was da gesungen wird... Amazing performance!

Büyüleyici
is Eric Whitacre a hunger games villian?
Sigh. Perfection.
❤️❤️❤️
Good to hear a choir with stable voices - music not ruined by the horrible quivering to which people politely refer as "vibrato".
Starting about 2:01, it sounds as if the choir is creating the soundscape one might experience after death -- *in hell.*
I did this for choir contest but the judge didn't pick it
Beautiful.

My choir did this song but we did the end in reverse since no one was dragging the end part out long enough
Your teacher should have worked on that instead of revising,

Wow, that's an unlikely connection, nice to know, thank you :)
Lost me at the hand movements 😬
The cutoffs weren't great 😕

+Kim Kelly but the second part was not written by bach. I don't know who wrote it but it sounds just like knut nystedt "immortal bach"
+Lorena Menendez they're just singing the bach melody at different paces and much slower
he looks a little like Carson Kressley

The ending seemed to deteriorate into one of whitacres own mediocre works. Quite inappropriate.
Try Knut Nystedt’s “Immortal Bach” instead.
