  • What is the untold history of Armenia? One of the most downtrodden, yet at the same time, proud nations in the entirety of the post-Soviet/Southwest Asian/Eastern European sphere.
    Today, we will discuss the history behind the Armenian nation, and how they have evolved in the past few thousand years, from one of the great superpowers of the ancient world, to the modestly-sized country we see today that still has quite an impressive international reach through it's culture and extensive diaspora.
    Be sure to let me know your thoughts on the old Armenian Empire and the current state of affairs for the Armenian nation, and as always, thanks for watching!

      louis lesseos dear my greek friend. Me as a greekoturk offer you to read this. . Well lets talk history abit and stop romantism or dreaming. History isnt what you wanted it to be. Yes slavic nations and greeks were kind of victoms. But Armenians. No guys. Ottomans didnt invade them or tAke their land by fighting with them. Ottoman fought with sia turks (safevids) and gain eastern anatolia. They saw armenians as the most trustful nation. They didnt forced them to convert islam like they did to slavs and greeks. They allow them to be governers, pashas. Armenians were the richest nation of ottomans. They ruled banking system of ottomans. They were ottomans greatest businesmen, architectures(balyan family) no guys they were not victoms like greeks or slavs. When they stabbed ottomans from back with the help of Russia in 1900 -1915 ottomans put that very awful order. Removing them from their homeland. It was not right and so cruel. But guys armenians were very ok before that . Dont lie to people. And for the record ottomans didnt take armenian and jewish women to harem or didnt take the kids of those nations as we call it “devsirme” so armenians dont stole the role of greeks and slavs. You were so fine all time while your christian brothers were in “trouble”. And here are some wealtiest people of ottomans empire; Balyan family(nearly 100 hundred years of palace architecture), Vartan Pasha, Gullu Agop, Hampartosum Limonjian, kemani tatyos Ekserciyan, Hovsep Pushman, Sarkis Mubaeyajian, Calouste Gulberkian (HEAD OF OTTOMAN NATIONAL BANK😱). And many more. Turk and armenians were having a symbiotic romance . Noone can deny. And when your lover stabs you from back it hurts you much more.

    Hayastan. It's amazing they still call themselves that now. After well over two thousand years. When the names and identities of nearly every other nation have changed more times than we can count. Those people literally outlived the Roman Empire, all of the Caliphates, every Asian, African, and American empire, and at the rate they're going might well outlive the current state of affairs. I have to give credit where it's due. They are resilient if nothing else.

    • @udon6031
      @udon6031 6 лет назад +67

      Well, Armenia's name changed too. Hayastan is a new name. Today there are many country names in Armenian that end with "stan". That "stan" comes from Persian. The true and old Armenian way of saying Armenia is Hayq. That "q" in the end is like "stan", but in Armenian.
      Examples:
      Persia is Parskastan is modern Armenian, but used to be Parsq
      Georgia is Vrastan in modern Armenian, but used to be Virq
      Armenia is Hayastan in modern Armenian, but used to be Hayq.
      That's why in Armenian history books when talking about Armenian kingdoms, they don't say "mets hayastan"(greater Armenia) or "poqr hayastan" (Armenia minor)
      But say Mets Hayq and Poqr Hayq. But that's just in history books. Today we call our country Hayastan, not Hayq.
      Anyway, thanks for the compliment to our nation!

    Armenians were persecuted, mistreated and killed by the millions in the 20th century. And still, there was never a time when people would be afraid to ride on a plane with one of them. Oppression as justification for terrorism is a sham. Kudos to Armenia for surviving and holding head up high (and, hopefully, thriving again in the near future).

And dear friend they used to be terrorist in 1980s they killed innocent people . The terrorist group called ASALA. You wouldnt want to sit near an armenian on a plane in 80s. The history of the Irevan Khanate is an integral part of the rich material and cultural history that the Azerbaijani nation has been developing for millennia. The Irevan Khanate was one of the Azerbaijani states, Khanates, established in the wake of the collapse of Nadir-shah's empire in the mid-18th century. Currently the territory of the Armenian Republic, until quite recently - early 19th century - it was an Azerbaijani state of Irevan Khanate. The oldest indigenous population of this land was the aboriginal owners of the territory, the Azerbaijani Turks. The territory where the Irevan Khanata came to existence is one of the oldest Turkish lands. Hurrits, Cimmerians, Scythians, Saks, Huns and other numerous Oghuz and Kipchak Turks who were closely involved in the formation of the Azerbaijani people inhabited this region, in particular the lands around the Goycha lake, and left a profound historical and cultural trace. Significant historic events and processes described in «Kitabi-Dede Gorgud», a heroic epos of the Azerbaijani and other Turkic nations, took place in the territory of Irevan Khanate, in this area. The «Oghuzname» commissioned by the great ruler of Azerbaijan, Uzun (Long) Hassan (1468-1478), the «Kitabi-Diyarbakriyya» narrated that the warlord Oghuz, the predecessor of the Oghuz Turks, lived, died and was buried in this area, on the shores of the Goycha sea. The khan of khans, warlord Bayandur, and many other Oghuz Turk rulers also lived and died, were buried in these lands.
      The territory of the Irevan Khanate had always been part of Azerbaijan, from the most ancient times, excepting periods when the land was occupied by different invading empires. These lands were also one of the regions of the most close-knit Azerbaijani Turk community

It's not like Armenians did not want to join together, but the Greeks were discriminatory to others Christians as much as Muslims. This is why even western Europe refused to help them against the Turks, and the Armenians in fact joined the Turks to destroy Rome.

    I recently ran into an article on wiki talking about the history of Armenians in medieval Poland a few days ago. I was curious about learning about Poland and the demographics of eastern Europe in general and learned that prior to WWI and 2 there was a significant minority of Armenians that lived in Poland since the medieval era, I thought it was pretty cool.
    Its interesting just how diverse the world's landscape was prior to the world wars, many empires and states would have several enclaves of different people groups living and coexisting with each other. It'd make you wonder when and how that group of people got there, the history of the people and the places they inhabit.

    • @gadyariv2456
      @gadyariv2456 6 лет назад +19

      the Arminian church holds a quarter in Jerusalem, not Armenia as a country.
      the Arminian diaspora is rather extensive.
      actually, most Arminians in Jerusalem have Israeli citizenships, many also live in Haifa and Jaffa and are Israeli citizens.
      (In 2016 I studied a course in Haifa with an Israeli Armnminan)
      as far as I know, Armenians didn't suffer the fate of the Palestinians in 1948, but I might be wrong.
      Today Israeli racist policies in Jerusalem and elsewhere marginalize the Arminians making them less sympathetic to Israel. the same thing is happening with the Bedouin and the Druze, they used to be treated better by Israel, and in return, they were rather sympathetic to Israel, but Israeli discrimination against anyone not Jewish has become so extreme in the last two decades, that any loyalty these groups once had is completely evaporating.

      The same Kurds that killed Armenians also killed Kurds. Many Kurds hid Armenians aswell.
      Kurds apologised for their role, even though it was minor and carried out by brainwashed religious people who thought their caliphate was under attack by crusaders. The mass killings/ genocides were the Turkish forces marching prisoners, women and children into the desert.

    • @fuzzydunlop7928
      @fuzzydunlop7928 6 лет назад +6

      The participation of Kurds in or against the Genocide is a very nuanced topic - both views are technically correct. The Kurds were promised nationhood and many partook in the genocide and forced expulsion. Many helped their neighbors and helped Armenians where they could instead, and many would not long thereafter also be marched into exile by the Turks. Right now, Kurds are being killed by Turks. I give credit to the Kurdish authorities for not hiding behind this nuance but taking responsibility for the actions of their ancestors. I think right now Armenians and Kurds have a common enemy.

Good luck getting the Orthodox to change theology to conform to Non-Chalcedonian "Oriental Orthodox" view. In Venice there is a monastery called San Lazzaro degli Armeni which is run by Armenian catholic monks. For centuries Venice had a very large Armenian population, mostly merchants from Ottoman Empire. In this monastery is the third largest collection of Armenian manuscripts in the world, here they wrote the first Armenian vocabulary and first modern books about Armenian history. This monastery was the only monastery in Venice that Napoleon did not shut down and many famous people visited it such as Lord Byron, Tchaikovsky, Wagner, Proust, Franz Joseph I, Edward VII, Napoleon III and president Grant (and, awkwardly, Stalin used to work there as a bell ringer). This monastery now has 12 monks and was visited by many Armenian presidents. Small facts like this is why Venice is special, not romance and Italian stereotypes like in movies.

      Armenia is one of the most ancient countries:
      You can find Armenia mentioned in the Tanakh.
      The Tanakh is estimated to be authored between 1500 BCE to 500 BCE.
      2 Kings 19:37
      And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword: and they escaped into the land of Armenia.
      Isaiah 37:38
      And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Armenia: and Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.
      It isn't just the Israelites that have written about Armenia. There are texts from ancient Rome, ancient Greece, ancient Persia.
      ARMENIA
      IS MENTIONED IN OTHER ANCIENT CULTURES
      www.iranchamber.com/history/darius/darius_inscription_biston.php
      Darius
      the King says: These are the countries which came to me; by the favor
      of Ahuramazda I was king of them: Persia, Elam, Babylonia, Assyria,
      Arabia, Egypt, (those) who are beside the sea, Sardis, Ionia, Media,
      Armenia, Cappadocia, Parthia, Drangiana,
      Aria, Chorasmia, Bactria, Sogdiana, Gandara, Scythia, Sattagydia,
      Arachosia, Maka: in all, 23 provinces.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darius_the_Great
      Before
      Cyrus and his army crossed the Aras River
      to battle with the Armenians, he

      from battle.

      In 1987 the peaceful Singing Revolution began against Soviet rule, resulting in the restoration of de facto independence on 20 August 1991.

    As a Jew, I very much love the Armenians, who parallel the Jews in manifold ways (genocide, history, diaspora, being literate/educated, etc.)!!!
    One thing to point out is that the history of the Armenian diaspora could be divided into the "old" diaspora (before the Turkish-led genocides of 1896 to 1923, in many cases stretching back 1000+ years) - e.g. Armenians in Iran, India, Singapore, Venice, Poland/Ukraine, etc. - and the "new" diaspora (during and after the genocides at the turn of the 20th century) - e.g. Armenians in North America, France, Greece, Lebanon/Syria. And much of the migration of Armenians to places like North America from the 1960s/1970s onwards has been from elsewhere in the "new" diaspora, e.g. Lebanon.
    Another thing to point out is that in the US, the largest Armenian communities are in the LA area but also in the NYC area and - as a few commenters have already pointed out - in the Boston area.

    The first traces of the armenian nation are dated back to the the 30-28th centuried BC,when armenia was called ARATTA this is the similar name of armenian well known and famous biblical mount ARARAT,and we know that Armenian kingdom of Urartu was also called the kingdom of ARARAT,also it is known that the first given names of armenian highlands which are very familiar with the modern well-known name armenia refer th the 26th century and those names are ARMANUM,ARMAN and ARMANI.theese names are found in the records of akkad king Sargon,Naram Sin and others also the sumerians have mentioned the kingdom and the people that were exicting with them at the same time and the kingdom of armenia was called the kingdom of gods and immortality especially it is prooved with the story of gilgamesh where armenia is called the country of immortality and the country of wisdom,so exploring and discovering new facts we all can admit that if armenia isnt the oldest country among all of exicting ones,it os one of the oldest at least and armenian nation lives in its homeland 5000 thousand years and if the international organizations do not admit it it is because of politics and nedative attitude to the armenian questins you can be sure in all those things

    *Where are the Turkish Keyboard Ninjas?* Love to Hayastanis from India 🇮🇳

    • @abc_cba
      @abc_cba 6 лет назад +4

      @Antromoji Well, we have plenty of villages that have people living like the ancient tribal people do. *Now let me educate you* !
      First, of all it's okay if they defecate in villages because mostly it's full of trees and jungles. It's biodegradable and acts as a fertilizer as well. I don't stay in village and we have all the facilities unfortunately you don't know it.
      Now for the part you said against my people , look at almost every major company and you'd see an Indian CEO there right from Google (Sundar Pichai) , Microsoft ( Satya Nadella) , Francisco D'Souza (Cognizant) , Shantanu Narayanan (Adobe), the list goes on and on.
      Do some research, Indian Americans have the highest income bracket in US . We are extremely educated.
      Look at our history, We had a 8000 year old civilization and still preserve it . Your ancient civilization is all gone, your modern civilization (founded under Armenian, Greek ,Assyrian locals) is genocide of innocent people. Archaeogenetical evidences prove that you guys are "not the mountain dwelling Turks" but some wannabe idiots who left their ancestry for trying to be something else. Even 24% of today's Turkish people have Jewish DNA, dig some further ,you'd somewhere be a Greek or an Armenian descendant living in denial. 😂😂😂😂
      Lastly, my city where I stay (Nagpur) has a 96% literacy rate , higher than any city in our country (it's even higher than New York City ) .
      Now for the facts , there are 29 states in India of which my state (Maharashtra) alone has a nominal GDP that half of your country's GDP , let alone other states in India. 🤓🤓🤓
      We invented zero and any kid in India can take over a grown turk in mathematics. You know nothing of us.
      Your Turkic invaders looted us , raped our people , killed us , trampled us for 4 centuries , yet with just 71 years of Independence , look at us in competing everywhere. We are hardworking people no matter even if we are poor , we don't beg any country for financial aid like Turkey has been ringing Germany and other NATO nations to cover its economic loss.
      Indians are very diverse and we give great respect to everyone. What happened with Armenians was horrifying and though our history books don't teach about Armenian Genocide (because it's filled with the genocide that Turks did in our nation for generations by having so many sultanates, and what not).
      One more fun fact, though I'm a Christian by faith , 8 generations ago my ancestors were Hindu Maratha warriors and it's that or great leader Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was only responsible to kick Aurangzeb's ass off. Your Turks killed our king Maharaj Ranjit Singh , your Turks killed our Sikh leaders , the list of atrocities never stops. Well, ofcourse Brits looted us but they gave us the wisdom to educate ourselves, they made us more United and hence we began reformation as a nation full of people all united. Turks only destroyed us.
      It's shame , that you couldn't preserve your past. I went to Iran and was amazed to see that Armenians are so respected there and have full rights compared to the nation they once were rightful heirs to.

    • @abc_cba
      @abc_cba 6 лет назад

      @Good luck with that Hahaha . We all know that you guys couldn't even handle your currency, bitches. Let alone that We all know you guys killed Jamal Kasoggi. Plus, you assholes claim that you have his Apple watch recordings.
      Your country doesn't even have LTE network, yet.
      Don't live on theories when you haven't been to my city or nation.
      There are ample toilets in my city alone than there are homes in Deyirbakir. It's a shame that you , live on propaganda.
      Well, the agents you talked about (Mughals) were beaten and kicked out by Maratha and of course British. Just like the British kicked and ended your Ottoman Empire.
      You're true they looted us and deprived us with our own wealth that you stole. Btw, most you idiots like you don't know that Turkey has lots of descendants from the Indians who inhabited and founded the MItanni Empire in and around Syria and Turkey.
      Muslims as the world knows are good at stealing. No wonder, why Muslims are being beaten up everywhere in the world. I'm glad Hindus are fighting back against you jerks.

    • @abc_cba
      @abc_cba 6 лет назад

      @Good luck with that well in the past we hated them because bthey aided the Mughals. But with modern century, we have developed great ties to them.
      We are very supportive of the Afghans who are battling terrorism and often send peace negotiators and financial as well as aid in the form of Blankets , foods , grains, etc. We know they're battling the demons of extremist Islam. We generally have love for them.
      Iranians ? Just ask Iranians what better friends do they have in Asia other than us ? We have for years gone against our Western allies and protected Iran's interests. If only Iran stops the threats to Israel and Saudi Arabia then we'd even support their nuclear programme. Or else , we are just as pro-iranian as we are pro-Israeli, pro-palestinian.
      What their ancestors did shouldn't be made a symbol of a hardworking Iranian as a persecution. I've meet many Iranians and except a few radicals , Iranians are amazing.

    • @abc_cba
      @abc_cba 6 лет назад +1

      @Good luck with that Well, I'm not a Hindu. I'm a Christian.
      As a matter of fact there are variety of sects in Christianity.
      Persians even now are so far away from mainstream Islam , that if their state religion is removed they'd reverse back to Zoroastrianism. Quite a lot. I've met many Iranians and I've seen the fervour they have for their history and past.
      Abraham or as a matter of fact all other prophets except Jesus & John (the Baptist) are meaningless in my sect. Almost all of the prophets other than them have killed or been rude or been horrible to other people. Ofcourse exceptions like Samuel , Amos, Daniel exist.
      Or else Abraham to me is a meaningless man , I don't even consider him a good man. What is anything great that he taught us ? To first worship idols, then marry his own sister ,have sex with her , then have another slave as a wife have a kid from her abandon that child and leave that mother and child to die in the desert ?
      Jesus Christ is away beyond that. Talking of which. Even if someone worships idols ,it's their life , we are nobody to accuse him or hurt him.

They showed a bit mercy not doing that, still the Turks are the bad ones :D
