Some music by Karl Casey of White Bat Audio - Хобби
This was so satisfying to watch! I've been in the scene since the early 80's, brings back many fond memories of the many HOURS of applying makeup before a night out. Conor, I love the violet shading & your look reminds me of Christopher Lee's Dracula from 1970. Lynn, your eye makeup looks like an amazing falcon bird's eye! Yeah, we did indeed thrift most if not all of our clothing and accessories. We also modified it a lot according to individual style. Consequently, there was a wide variety of unique interpretations & creative discoveries to be had! I made lots of tiny bones from clay that I sewed into my hair, that was part of my signature look. Love this new series, looking forward to the future installments! Slainte!
Thank you for your kind words! The bones in the hair sound so cool! I love seeing pictures from that era because as you said there was such a wide variety in styles because everyone diy'd their outfits, I'm glad to see the alt scene in general shifting back in that DIY direction! 🦇
80 to 84 The term was "Death Rock" I dint here the term "Goth" til later where I lived on the East Coast of the US in Atlanta ,Florida and NY
It was the same for us on the West coast same era-we were called death rockers and sometimes bat cavers. Never heard Goth until years later too!@@denasewell
Looks like most outfits in my closet…from someone who’s been in the scene 20+ years you get the seal of trad goth approval from me! 🖤
When Connor and Lynn were Born
The DOCTOR Said oh my GOTH :O
Connor's finished look with that trench coat is an instant 10/10 for me, looking good bud.
Your make-up is flawless, and your hair, whether short or maybe longer, looks really good, not to mention the clothing choices themselves. My personal opinion is that it goes well with a larger variety of clothes and customising styles if it's longer though. But, all things considered, I say this with particular fondness because I adore Trad Goth.
Nyx has really good eyeliner! It lasts all day/night for me and is the most precise eyeliner I’ve tried so far. Best part? It’s cheap!
P.S. I don’t think I’ve seen this channel before, but it made me so happy to see videos like these are still being made (‘: love the makeup!
Nyx seems to be the most recommended! Thanks so much! We are glad you found the channel!
Yeah, it's wierd. I always do Goth searches and this was the first time that this one showed up!
yes nyx is super good! Rimmel London also has some very good ones.
Yep the nyx epic wear waterproof eyeliner (liquid) does NOT play.
Daniel Ash from Bauhaus had that quintessential original Goth look for me. Very Bowie/Glam inspired.
Was the "cheekbone" in a husky voice from when Vince gets his cheekbone magazine delivery from a ninja who is running besides the van?? It's so cutting edge it goes out of date every 3 hours 😅
Ding ding ding! Cheekbone 🥷 I'm so glad someone got it!
Thanks for representing us trad goths!! 🦇
Generally speaking, girls tended to do the Siouxsie eye makeup, a lot of the guys would aim for either the over-the-top Specimen stuff, the Nik Fiend, or the Rozz Williams. Some of us were pretty subtle, only doing warpaint for clubs, and that would depend on if you'd be clubbing to dance or clubbing to socialize. Dancing tended to wreck your makeup, so you'd aim for something that's not going to run down your face or get in your eyes.
NYX Epic Ink is an amazing liner! It lasts so much longer than the KVD one and is much cheaper. I’m not sure if you can get NYX in Ireland but it’s a recommendation lol
We can get NYX in Ireland and I have some here but it tends to make my eyes water! I'm going to give it another go! Thank you!
And a verrry important aspect is the smell..... heavy layers of patchoulie, incense in thick velvet robes and spider thin lace or knits.... goth i miss my teen goth party visits.
When RUclips finally adds a 4dx experience this video will radiate the smell patchouli and clove 🦇
@@RandomGothCouple Oh my goth smellavision it will be fantastic and horrific at the same time.
Good effort! This style takes time to perfect for everyone who does it.
I really appreciate how you not only have the history of the music & the look but pointed out that the term "tradgoth" didn't really exist until much later.
As a goth from the mid 90s, as I got older & hung out with others, I found Goths didn't really use labels for different types of Goths looks wise except "she looks like x from this band" or in the 00s, jokey labels like "ubergoth" or "perkygoth" to describe people's personalities.
Of course there were rivetheads, cybergoths etc but they liked different music to goth.
I've had arguments with younger folk online about all this & been told that I'm wrong because "back then Goths went by 'romantic', 'trad' & 1000 other labels....but I was actually there & they hadn't even been born so 😂. Not slagging off all younger folk at all - it's just a sad minority.
I've never been that skilled at makeup & I'm like Lynn in "doing whatever works".
Lynn - I've been recommended the NYX epic ink liner by loads of people - it's supposed to be really great quality black liner that lasts for ages. I bought some off Amazon though & unfortunately was ripped off as it was empty - loads of stuff on Amazon is fake now so I'm not blaming NYX.
Thanks for this video ❤
LOVE this series idea, can't wait to see more (looking forward to deathrock)! Also really impressed with how Conor's makeup came out considering how much struggle was involved to get there lol, it ended up cool and quite authentically trad-looking. As constructive feedback I may suggest not putting the eyebrows quite so close together but it still looked dope!
Thanks for the feedback! I definitely agree I came in a bit far but I'd already committed at that point 😂 I would actually like to try this out again later and see if it goes well a second time round!
Also looking forward to a attempting a big ass death hawk! That's gonna be so fun!
It's a good idea, almost nobody talks about the different gothic styles and even less about makeup.
aww gawd you guys don't give yourselves enough credit you did such a stunning job and you both look beautiful ❤
Thank you 💀
Waistcoats were big in the trad goth days and many girls went for painted dockers with rosary and crosses
This is such a good idea. My personal style is more Emo but my music taste varies in different alternative categories. I feel like everyone assumes that goth is goth & all alternative styles & sub cultures are the same which they are not. So it nice to have representation & education to show off the differences.🖤🖤🖤
Alternative subcultures aren’t the same but generally, yes. Goth is goth.
@@baphometbby hi sorry if I came off dumb there I wasn't sure on how to explain what I meant. I just meant that most people place goth as all alternative subcultures lol
I more to dark wave
I actually think you both did a great job with your 80s goth looks! It totally takes me back to the 80s. FYI - there were stores in the 80s/90s that sold gothic clothing. One store in Chicago was called 99th Floor. This place opened in 1987 and sold a lot of crushed velvet, creepers, pointed high buckled boots, frilly romantic blouses, etc. I got all my Christmas presents there from my parents in highschool!
Thank you for gracing us with your presence. With or without makeup.
Aww thank you 🦇
Wow you both make putting on gothic styled make up look easy 🖤
Oh yay! What an awesome idea for a series! I’m very new into the gothic subculture and I’m a guy so I really enjoy watching Connor doing makeup looks cause I get to see him try stuff that I may be into. Both of you turned out looking amazing though! Please do more!
Thank you so much! I hope you have fun trying out some looks for yourself I'm glad we're helpful to your own gothic journey 💀
Conor I think you look good with your hair straight back like that tbh mate 👍
I agree
Awh thank you. I actually wear my hair like this most of the time (off camera) but I'm really self conscious about it because I never like how it looks on camera! So genuinely thank you for that!
@@RandomGothCouple I think it looks cool
This is super cool. I'd love to see more episodes with more styles!
Working on them! Thank you !
It's great to see you guys have fun with make up. GOOD JOB!!! I'm a 2nd waver. This is my time. We didn't have make up like today. I used to powder my face with cornstarch! Shiseido had the palest foundation you could get. (Way before MAC etc).Black lipstick was near to impossible to get. I used to wear a cheap matte Wet n Wild colour called Black Orchid with black eyeliner underneath. Almost black plum. With no internet and the only inspiration being whatever we saw in old horror movies, I based my make up designs on egyptian stylised lines I copied from movies like Antony and Cleopatra. Liz Taylor was a heavy inspiration. I made my own eyebrow and skin pattern stencils from overhead projector sheets. I made all shapes and cut them out with a craft knife. Saved a lot of make up time and uneven free hand drawing on. I used the little foam applicators to apply eyeshadow. Even use them today. I used cake eyeliner and mascara. Pencil liner needed to be constantly sharp to draw the intricate lines on. I would set it by painting over with hair gel. I discovered stage make up in the early 90s. I looked to drag queen make up for big eyes, cut creases and contouring. Being a near 50 year old goth now, I've evolved my style to more corporate goth and somewhat age appropriate style. Diy fashion started as a necessity to create an individual look. You couldn't buy 'goth' clothing in shops. I always make all my own clothes (black mostly), but I spend the money these days on good quality fabrics and good accessories. Also on decent make up. I love the alternative and goth make up brands that are available now. To my absolute delight, I discovered deep violet, deep bottle greeny black and deep navy blue metallic lipstick last year. I might add that I'm a qualified and working make up artist aswell. I'm seeing a lot of 80's techniques be revived. I wish people wouldn't categorise goth fashion and culture. We didn't call it anything. We just simply were ourselves in all our dark creative glory. Oh and 'winkle pickers'. Lordy me! I laughed so hard! Mine had skull buckles up to mid shin. Keep the videos coming. You're both very fresh and entertaining!
You look grand! Thanx for taking us on your make-up journey. It was a blast! You're ability to re-create the Trad. Goth look was amazing! Keep posting such great content!
Love this! So excited to see more of these videos!
''Maybe this will stop people asking me to o makeup'' YOU FOOL THEY'LL DO IT MORE xD
Love this series! Can't wait to see the next subculture look!
This was so fun! Can't wait for the next one.
Cant wait for the rest of this series !!!
Love this new series! I clicked this vid so fast and the end result is super cute 😽
Look awesome both make up styles came out very cool
Haha, Conor you're always complaining saying you do a shite job at make up, and here you are again looking great.
Kind of Egyptian vibes
And Lynn, the Silver is so cool and those winged eyes were wicked. Love the dress too
Haha thanks Thomas! I think I managed to salvage it towards the end but then dropped the ball on the contour, I would have liked to expand a bit more on the eyeliner but I was nervous I'd mess it up for the video.
I agree, love Lynn's look!
I feel like this video is gonna be the start of an Amazing Series, Great Upload!
This make up is really good. I really wanna try this look now! 😄
You absolutely should! It's really fun to play around with because there's a lot of options for eyebrows 🤨😅
Yes that was really fun! You both turned out great. I love that backdrop with the aura. That was pretty amazing
Amazing amazing amazing!!!+ Awesome video, as always!!! Really looking forward to new episodes of the seriiies. The Greenscreen really made it look cool. It had an interesting effect to it, making you guys appear as ghosts. Take care
This is such an awesome idea for a series 😁
I absolutely love this idea! every branch of alternative is unique and beautiful and people should explore other parts of subculture to expend our perception of other's styles and our own style
also I loved watching you guys suffer with probably the most difficult make-up there is in alt community, but you actually did a very good job
Heck yeah! Yall look so flipping cool!
I really like the final looks 🖤 The purple with black looks awesome Conor. & Lynn, it's amazing you were able to find such a gorgeous dress in a thrift shop and actually have it fit! I'm yet to be so lucky ;)
This series idea is really cool too, I would love to see all different sorts of goth styles
Love this series already!!
I legit *just* stumbled across you guys, and I am in love with your energy. What a mood! Three videos in now, and this one took me back hella. (Not going to mention how far back, because as soon as I started to add it up I could feel my bones begin turning to dust 😅.) But ah, yes: the early days of no eyebrows, and the struggle to make and match lines...that is an undertaking, for sure.
Ya'll rock, keep it up homies.

"Cheekbone magazine"
Seriously a good look. Well done both.
Just found this chan today and binged like crazy. I love it.
Oh so much fun 😊. I think you both did a great job and would love to see you do Victorian goth, and also white goth. Thank you for the very enjoyable video 💜🦇
You both look brilliant! I’m an 80’s Goth girl and it is so great to see you both doing a trad Goth look! Cheers!
🖤😻💜
You both look great 😊really enjoyed the video 😊thanks
Excellent job! You guys captured the look very well for a first attempt. I appreciate that you told a little history behind the look as it is important to understand where this aesthetic and music style came from. Please continue to tell us history behind each look and music style. I would love to see a deathrock look and eventually work on up to a cybergoth look if possible. 90's romantic goth is another idea as well. Take care and stay spooky my friends! 🦇💀🕸️🖤
Loved it! Great video!✨✨❣❣❣
You two are great!
I'm going to follow you closely because I love your style and I have a lot to learn before this year I'll attend the Wave Gotik Treffen for the first time!
May Goth darken your path!
Stay cool, stay dark, stay strange!
🦇🖤🦇
Loving it🦇💞
loved this, satisfying to watch, and inspiring!
We are glad you enjoyed it! Thanks so much 🦇
I would love to see more videos from you couple keep up the good work
Brilliant work as always guys! Lynn, you really suit the red lipstick, and your hair is gorgeous. I always love your wig selections, but the natural hair looks beautiful. Conor, I wish I was half as good at makeup as you are, you're too hard on yourself! The final look was pretty authentic for trad goth inspired makeup. This is such a good idea for a series, can't wait for the next one :)
Aww, thank you so much! We appreciate your kind words 🖤🦇 We are excited for the next one too!
Love the looks. Conor's outfit is flawless
Ay thank you Ronald! That shirt did used to fit me better but at least I managed to still get all the buttons closed! 😂 - Conor
Super excited for this series and honestly I think y’all both did a really good job! Also I feel your struggle with shaky hands while doing makeup, I’m terrible at eyeliner for that reason lol.
Great video guys! This must take a very long time to do. Props to Conor for editing this. xD
No eyebrows Lynn-chan looking like a cenobite. xD
Keep up the great work guys!
Thank you! 🦇 Now you finally saw me with no eyebrows hahah even more like a cenobite
OooOOooh looking forward to this 😀
So much fun to watch! As a young person growing up with Rocky Horror we had a huge contingent of goth/Rocky people. This was in Indiana in the eighties so we got some abuse! My standard was just all black with Lost Boys Kiefer mullet😂
I enjoyed this totally! You both nailed it. 👏🥰 I'm a late 90's Goth, but not quite from the original "traditional" Goth era of the early 80's. But from other trad Goth videos I did happen upon (most filmed from the era) were quite refreshing to see and the look was certainly different back then as opposed to nowadays. Back then it was thrift stores and DYI clothing. The Goth nowadays seems to be cookie cutter disposable fashions and teenagers using filters it seems like. I've only seen about a handful of true Goth makeup tutorials and those Get ready with me videos on here. It's refreshing to see guys doing their Goth makeup with their girlfriends and/or wives. You both are magnificent and you look superb! 🥰❤
Wahey! Wasn't expecting this 😁
Your looks turned out great! I thought the green screen with the VHS tape effects was appropriate for the era of the style. Can't wait to see more! 🖤
Thanks so much 🦇
You guys look so good! 😱🖤 You are also giving me Blutengel vibes 🦇
I typically wear Victorian Mourning styled clothing, but I just make it a bit more casual.
Would love to see you guys try something like that 🖤
Thank you so much 💀 Victorian/romantic goth is definitely on the list! Very excited for that one!
@@RandomGothCouple You're welcome 🖤 and I'll keep a lookout for that video in the future 🙂
Have to say this is my favorite video from you two!
Conor you needed a cane lol
I love this!
It’s way cool to (kind of) see what your faces look like without much of the makeup. I love this channel, you’re cool people.
You have great fashion. I like your opening song; it reminds me of a Dutch symphonic metal band I love and heart called Delain. Who is that playing your opening song?
Believe it or not, I’m not familiar with so many of the bands you like but they sound intriguing. As a metal, grunge, rock and classical fan, I could get into this music. I can’t do country, I’ve tried - no offense, cowboys (thanks for growing food).
I loved watching this vid. This is pure art with unique beauty, totally awesome. Your content cheers me up when I’m depressed. And I love how I never know what you’re going to do next. You are a way cool couple.
as someone who was never confident enough/ didn't know how to go about the whole make up side of things, I think you both did pretty good, Lynn's first eye made me think of like a Masquerade Mask type style with the camera making the black and white blending almost to make silver, good job all round in my humble opinion
Loved this video! I prefer to go for a trad goth look myself, albeit without any makeup. Makeup just doesn't look good on me lol, especially since I wear glasses. I really admire your courage in trying something new and putting this out there. It turned out really great! Look forward to more content! Love and best wishes from Canada!
Aww thank you so much! Love from Ireland 🖤
You guys look great! 😍
you two make me so happy! i found your channel yesterday and have been binge watching since we're sick and trapped in the house. i had to put this vid up on the laptop so i could watch while making some homemade soup for the house. definitely going to be a faithful viewer lol
Aww thank you so much! We are both sick at the moment too, so we know the feeling :( Hope you feel better soon 🦇🖤🖤
@@RandomGothCouple oh no! Hope you're back to well soon!
do all the goth stereotypes lol... was so fun watching you guys figure it out as you go...
Thanks for your videos. You two are interesting, and I enjoy hearing your lyrical accents. I'm from California, BTW.
Try out the Sephora collection high precision eyeliner. It's affordable, highly pigmented and great for winged eyeliner or any type of symmetrical lines. ☺️ You guys looked great!
Lynn’s eye make up looks very black swan dvd cover image !
I can see that now!
What a fun and interesting new series! I really enjoyed watching it and I would love seeing a victorian goth or/and a romantic goth transformation :D
Oh this is sooooooooo fun!!!! MORE MORE
Completely amazing, as usually.
excited for deathrock / horror punk ! 🕷
what a great video idea!
Cheekbone magazine! I got the reference!
Cheekbone! 🥷
You look splendid! 🦇
I love this so much 🖤🖤
Lynn’s looked like it was gonna be super cool and I think it would be with a little tweaking no? Actually I think both look good, continue this Conor
You both look great!
You and Lynn are a wonderful couple that tries new make up ideas and love your t shirt and love all your videos that are fun to watch on a Sunny day.👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️💀💀💀💀💀💀
You guys put a lot of hard work and dedication in this it does not go unnoticed or unappreciated I can't wait to see the next make up tutorial video God-bless and See You in your dreams 🙏🏾😇
Holy crap, Lynn looks so much like my childhood best friend Lily but grown up and Gothified 🖤
🦇🖤💜🖤💜try NYX that’s the point eyeliner it’s a good eyeliner pen holy grail in my opinion .
You both look so cute. And I know for sure the struggle with shaky hands!
It don't have to be a perfect image to be good.
Looking forward to other episodes.
Love from an eldergoth that started in the 80s. 🦇🖤🖤🖤🖤🦇
Aww thank you! Sending love back to you 🦇🖤
Conor, your makeup is great. You know what you like and what suits you. Don't be so hard on yourself. 🦇🖤
Conor and Lynn, I highly appreciate your makeup skills. I encourage you both to learn and practice the various styles of the different goth subgenres. You are both unique and I encourage you both to specialise in the styles or styles that suits you favourate goth subgenre and your personalities. If you like, you can request private tutorials from a goth make up artist that you both trust. This video you can be a prerequiste that can be accepted by your chosen goth make up artist. Eventually you will be so skillfull that you might be asked to do makeup sessions by a lot of people in any goth subgenres.
Looking good :)
You both look wonderful! I vote for Gothabilly look next!
Subculture Styles EP1: Gene Simmons Transformation
Jokes aside, I need more of this!
😂😂😂 You never know! Thank you !
There was a lot of influence of silent film actresses like Louise Brooks on goth makeup. The Theda Bara lips and dark eyes. Vamp look.
You guys look GREAT 👍 Take it from someone from the mid 80’s 🖤
Thank you so much!!
I use the KVD concealer or foundation to put on goth makeup and I kept drawing straight lines on the eye makeup and shape eyeliners that is all the way to my scalp. I’ve done this last year, it was during Christmas Day when we went to go see the recent Spider-Man movie in theaters.
i recommend the nyx epic ink eyeliner! its so good and pretty inexpensive
