About that part with the tablets you were wondering about: In 1731, the fire destroyed most of Zagreb. At the time, a shrine in the Stone Gate held a painting of the Virgin with the baby Jesus. It had not been touched by the fire. People come to the shrine, light a candle, and utter a prayer to the Mother of God. On the tablets there are words of gratitude to the Virgin Mary for the miracles people whose prayers she answered. And about the church (the cathedral) under construction - it was badly damaged in an earthquake couple of years ago.
Wow. Thank you so much! That’s amazing. I think it’s very important for other people that watch the video to know. If you don’t mind, I’ll pin it to the top so others can read your comment. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer.
@@benjaminnachum :). No problem, I am glad you enjoyed Croatia. With all different problems we face economically and on many other levels, it was refreshing seeing it through a foreigner's eyes and videos like yours remind me to appreciate it more. Safe travels :)
I was there in May. Fell in love! Will be returning for 3 months about in January. The building with the fancy roof is a church. It had sustained some damage in the earthquake in2020. They are repairing it. There are also other older buildings going through repairs.
Amazing. You guys are cool guys. Hope you decide to start traveling and see the world. If you ever have any questions let me know. I’d be happy to help. Thank you for being in my video.
Great Video Thank you Ben! I have family in Zagreb & Rijeka. I have been to Croatia 4 times . I will be in Zagreb for 5 nights July 26th- August 2nd. I am so looking forward to seeing Zagreb & Rijeka and my Family. I may even may want to Retire in Croatia. I am at least looking into it.
Awesome. Totally enjoy. Croatia is fantastic. If you’ve been 4 times you must agree. It may be an excellent choice for retirement. Enjoy every moment of your trip. Cheers!
Thanks. Meeting you was a highlight of Brazil. You’re an amazing dude. I hope the same. Appreciate your encouragement then and now. See you again in the future.
As someone that lives in Zagreb, it's always so interesting hearing other people's thoughts and seeing them explore my city and country! Thanks a lot for making this video. Best of luck!
I hope to visit again one day. I was very impressed with your country and the people there. I would recommend anyone to visit Croatia. I appreciate your comment. Cheers!
World Traveler here - been in Arkansas for the past 25 years, bike ride, kayak, atv riding, lakes, rivers, fishing, clear skies - ya, Croatia looks good for a Kansas guy. Man, Arkansas is way better, and I watched 30 minutes of this video! Almost anyplace looks better than Kansas.
Totally great comment. Arkansas is way better. You all have a amazing rivers for kayaking. Hoping to visit again later this year. My friends and I have been to the current river in the past. Cheers dude. Hope all is going good and appreciate you.
Man if you knew some stories about places you passed... every time you clap your heels 3 times you think of Croatia now. And I'll tell you a thing or two about some legends here.
You know I wish I knew more of the stories from Croatia. I feel like there was so much more to learn that I really missed. I don’t know how to explain it. There’s so much in the world I don’t know. I’ve been traveling a long time and often it feels like I barely scratch the surface of so many places. I try to spend at least a month in each country but being honest, it’s like tasting one bite of ice cream and knowing there’s 50 flavors available in every place. This is one of the best comments I’ve seen in a long time. Hope you’re having a really great day.
@@benjaminnachum You passed under the Dragon hall, next to gatekeeper of Zagreb: the Gates of stone, over medieval cemetery, missed live cannon fire fired in memory of a legend, tiles on that funny church all have symbolic meaning, Monastery of Sisters of Carmel that have windows only painted on outer walls, houses that are built in old fortification city walls, gravestone of a little Paul in a building behind one of these ancient doors, wells in gardens of an old town, old public transportation powered by water, barely missed observatory, walked on a creek, close to a Bloody bridge, there's revolving restaurant 1km above Zagreb, another ancient fort (a "castle" Americans would call it) on the way- "Bearfort"- a triple wall fort holding the old legend of Black queen, a bit south there are roman excavations with written recipes that would curl your stomach and perfectly preserved wells, bathhouse and rails for donkey public transportation...this whole place, whole country is full of legends. Hit me up if you are ever in Zagreb again.
Dude. Thank you for the info. I appreciate it very much. Zagreb really is a place with so many legends. The next time I visit, I will have to learn more of the history. I will definitely hit you up when I do. Cheers and I really do appreciate you so much.
16:00 those are government building on the left and parliament on the right of the church. 16:50 are Stone gates and inside is the shrine of the mother of God of the stone door ( she is a protector of Zagreb)

Yeah. It's somewhat an expensive country. Even the groceries. I hope bringing the Euro will help raise the wages soon. I spoke with some locals but they said it now is making things more expensive. It's such a beautiful country but I see what you say.
@@Laci-e9q It depends...To live in Croatia it's all about context and where you are. Coast and Zagreb are expensive, east and north are cheap, most people cook in home since ever....you buy food from farmers or grown your own very often as well...I could go on and on...
And 90% of Croats live in their own home - that’s a huge bump to disposable income. Also whoever is capable has more than 2000€ net in Zagreb, unfortunately, there’s a huge amount of low-paying jobs so the average boils down to 1400€ net per month.
