The Forgotten UK Territories - Where You Can Live Free

  • Published on Apr 14, 2026
  • Right now, under the British Crown, there are islands where inheritance tax doesn't exist, where income tax is a fraction of what you've given away your entire working life, and where daily life still feels closer to Britain in 1962 than anything you'd recognise today. You don't have to emigrate. You don't have to give up a single thing about being British. These places have always been there - patient, unhurried, and completely overlooked. Most people just never looked properly. Until now.

    • @Willopops
      @Willopops 27 days ago

      Not all. According to Grok: No, a UK national who becomes resident in the Isle of Man (IOM) does not require private medical insurance.
      As a UK national moving to become an IOM resident (typically by intending to live there permanently or meeting presence thresholds), you qualify for full access to this public system upon establishing residency. There are no immigration controls between the UK and IOM (both part of the Common Travel Area), and no health insurance requirement is imposed for British citizens relocating there.

    So basically same as any other country in the world - if you are loaded and/or have a job lined up you can live in one of the British countries mentioned as you can in most countries in the world. If you don’t - you can’t.

    • @stevebarlow3154
      @stevebarlow3154 Month ago +1

      @doonewatts7155 The four main islands all have different entry requirements. Jersey: you probably need to be a millionaire to become a permanent resident; Guernsey: You can probably become a long term resident if you have a profession or trade that is needed; Alderney and Sark: The two smallest islands are probably to easiest to move to, especially if you have a few bob tucked away. There are some limitations, you need a work permit for Alderney but as long as you don't put a local tradesman out of work things should be okay. Sark is a very small place with its own unique charm, but could be ideal for some.

You do need to get a work permit if you want to work, but as long as you don't put a local out of work that should be okay. About one third of population are British retirees. I don’t remember what qualifies you to be citizens, though you can stop there for a few years if you have specialized digital skills. I didn’t quite understand how this somehow was a delicate political waltz with Argentina and their claim to the Falkland Islands. As far North as the Falklands are with Argentina sitting in South America, I am very unsure about my usually accurate memory.

    • @paulberen
      @paulberen Month ago

      @stevebarlow3154 Wasn't meant to blanket presume that ALL politicians are getting sums of money paid into their off-shore accounts.
      If there's something though that is common to a large majority - that is their assumption that they are superior to their 'voters' who as soon as they become councillors, for example, they have to deliberately market themselves to voters, and along with this the voters are inferior and need government - need politicians to make their decisions for them.
      Some 9 out of 10 UK Police Officers talk down at people, playing a power game, that's a parallel to politicians motivation to get to places where they have influence and power.
