The Forgotten UK Territories - Where You Can Live Free
Embed
- Published on Apr 14, 2026
- Right now, under the British Crown, there are islands where inheritance tax doesn't exist, where income tax is a fraction of what you've given away your entire working life, and where daily life still feels closer to Britain in 1962 than anything you'd recognise today. You don't have to emigrate. You don't have to give up a single thing about being British. These places have always been there - patient, unhurried, and completely overlooked. Most people just never looked properly. Until now.

Getting Caribbean 'Montserrat' mixed up with Spanish 'Montserrat' near Barcelona. The wonderful joys of a.i.
Gib has more people living on one rock than the 300 Shetland Islands.
A small list of places you can live for FREE if you are already a millionaire.
All these places require you to have medical insurance.
Not all. According to Grok: No, a UK national who becomes resident in the Isle of Man (IOM) does not require private medical insurance.
As a UK national moving to become an IOM resident (typically by intending to live there permanently or meeting presence thresholds), you qualify for full access to this public system upon establishing residency. There are no immigration controls between the UK and IOM (both part of the Common Travel Area), and no health insurance requirement is imposed for British citizens relocating there.
4:05 It's pronounced Saint Heleena, not Helena. I'm from Jamestown, originally.
I lived on the Isle of Man and work permits; which are difficult to obtain, are required to find employment there.
nothing about Channel Islands... strange ???
Maybe they aren't forgotten enough....
All more British than Londonistan
What tripe. Have you ever been to London?
@stevebarlow3154 he most obviously has, hence the comment. The question is, have you been recently?
It's a wonder Starmer as not them given to other countries with a cash bonus. or is he planning to.
Great idea - that's Starmer next Establishment job, a governor of one of these god awful regimes.
Falklands? Im from a military family, and we very nearly got posted there....god forbid.
“Where you can live free” - unless you are a Brit with limited financial resources and a profession that isn’t on the list.
So basically same as any other country in the world - if you are loaded and/or have a job lined up you can live in one of the British countries mentioned as you can in most countries in the world. If you don’t - you can’t.
Shame the Brits are so down trodden by its governments .when everybody else can just walk in or come in rubber boats and get all the help and benefits .but we can't go anywhere unless you cash offer something in return
so you wallow in self pity
So we cant turn up to these havens on a dingy and get a free 5 star hotel and all inclusive for life ?!?!😢
@gillianforrester558 And none of that is true in the UK, in spite of Farage and other right wing liars.
@stevebaker9709 Rubbish, do some research and stop listening to the lies of Farage and other snake oil salesmen.
Monserat if I remember everyone was evacuated to U. K. When the volcano went up and when clear nearly all wanted to go home.
Sounds like Dubai...
No - the volcano eruption on Tristan da Cunha in 1961 was when the entire population was evacuated to the UK - and yes almost all of them went back to rebuild the only settlement - Edinburgh of the seven seas.
@gregorydeaville636well I knew it was a British dependency some where.
I've done st Kilda. One month. Amazing
I’m on Montserrat 🇲🇸….. you have not done your research… you are putting a lot of pictures of Montserrat Monastery in Spain …. Only some of your pictures are of Montserrat in the Caribbean.
What's it like to live there, with such a small population and so much of the island excluded? Genuinely curious
@andyhornettI must like it bought a house here 17 years ago . Spend half the year here swim and walk a lot … plenty of projects. Wife does lots of gardening with food growing. Where are you from?
@christopherk140 Sounds idyllic! Currently in Poland, but British. Left the UK recently. My plan is the Isle of Man next (I'm not rich, by any means, but I guess I'm a bit of a free spirit and libitarian), but the idea of the same benefits in the sun is appealing!! Such a crazy, upside down world we're now living in - hard to know what to do for the best, but I can't see me ever wanting to return to the UK, sadly. Where do spend the other 6 months? And thanks for replying with a coherent response :)
A UK passport doesn't guarantee you right of abode in these places, they have their own laws with their own immigration requirements
Unlike the UK where anyone can walk in off a boat
@clivebaxter6354 No they can't. There are very strict immigration rules, the problem is returning unwanted migrants back to where they came from. Thanks to all the idiots who voted for Brexit we can no longer do that.
I considered a move to Monserat a few years after the eruption, but my financial position wouldn't have supported me at the time.
I definitely wish I'd invested in a parcel of land there though.
Montserrat, are you joking the pictures are of the Montserrat church in Spain near Barcelona. Beautiful place but absolutely nothing to do with Britain.
What about us in Channel isle ?
This needs much more factual research
I think the tax laws are more restrictive? And this video was about living tax free or low tax. Do you still have financial entry requirements
@doonewatts7155 The four main islands all have different entry requirements. Jersey: you probably need to be a millionaire to become a permanent resident; Guernsey: You can probably become a long term resident if you have a profession or trade that is needed; Alderney and Sark: The two smallest islands are probably to easiest to move to, especially if you have a few bob tucked away. There are some limitations, you need a work permit for Alderney but as long as you don't put a local tradesman out of work things should be okay. Sark is a very small place with its own unique charm, but could be ideal for some.
@stevebarlow3154 Thank you for the explanation
@stevebarlow3154 I lived and worked in Jersey as a musician in the seventies. It is truly a lovely place and I would have stayed but you need money. Lots of it!
What about Anguilla that is also British
The "mainland" is continually referred to in this video, presumably an ill informed reference to the UK. , and a guaranteed way to get any Manxies back up. If you want to fit in refer to the UK as "across" or the "other island" otherwise you'll always be referred to as a "come over"
UK is not a country.... it is in fact a Corporate Ltd Company... on company house and at Dun & Bradstreet... with a Company Reg No; and VAT: like Burger King or any Local Shops has this... including all LEGAL COURTS, and everything to do with LEGAL in it's self is a LEGAL BAR Ltd Corporate Society of all Merchant men and women for business... which was all Dissolved in 2008 under the Clearfield Doctrine...
Idiotisms at its highest! While you're talking about the Caribbean island of Montserrat, showing pictures and videos of the Spanish Benedictine monastery of Montserrat in Catalonia. Please show it to a corrector before publishing your nonsense!
AI generated trash, that's why.
Furthermore, there was no mention that over half of the island of Montserrat is in the exclusion zone because of the volcanic eruption!
Exacto
Shame you didn't check whether you were using Montserrat in de Caribbean or Spain.
If your a British policeman or women you can apply for a transfer to Bermuda. I was there in the 90s and we got chatting to a policemen from Barnsley of all places.
Didn't Bermuda leave the commonwealth a few years ago?
not anymore m8
Bermuda is in the commonwealth and the are actively recruting uk coppers.,in fact, its far more involved with the uk then most commonwealth countries, even its governer is appointed by the uk..
Do,you m’en ‘if you’re’?
I wish Britain had these entry restrictions .this place would be a much better place to live then it is now .
I don't think its down to our entry system but general change that is always on the way. People always look back and think it was better then forgetting the downsides of that time. I was a child in the 70's and look back and think it was fantastic but that is because I was a child. For the adults grappling with unemployment, inflation, power cuts and the 3 day week it was a hard slog.
@stevebaker97097 The actual entry requirements to enter the UK permanently are actually very restrictive. Do some research and stop listening to liars like Farage.
@doonewatts7155 Really? I'm 67 y/o and don't remember muslim rape and murder gangs that destroyed the lives of an estimated 250,000 of our young girls. Or that is, no go areas that practice sharia that promotes first cousin marriage, female genital mutilation, the subjugation of women turning them into mere chattel and forced into marrying some 50 year old pervert whilst they are below the age of consent. I could go on, but you get my drift.
Some folk need to wake up, smell the coffee and realise that we have no right denying our generations that follow their right to our culture and the freedoms we inherited from our forefathers...just saying!
@stevebarlow3154 A dinghy with an outdoor motor is all that's required. Cheap as chapatis mush. Get real.
@doonewatts7155 You make that sound as if the difficult times went on for ever and for everyone. Not so.
Yes, I know abot all of them.
Monserat! Hope I don't spelt it correctly?
I never heard of it before
Wonder if a 6o year old retiree can start a new life there?
The cayman islands were threatened with direct rule from london because of corruption montserrat had direct rule for several year for the same reason (i think it was around 2022) so if you are wanting to go keep in mind that the UK can and will introduce direct rule.
And given the state of the British government they’ll give them all away in the next few years.
Give back 😂😂😂😂😂
Shhh! They'll find out where you're living right now...
What paranoid garbage.
This video is AI slop. The Ai doesn’t know the difference between Monserrat by Barcelona and Monserrat in the Caribbean.
What about the Channel Islands? More beautiful than Isle of Man, much better climate and not as dated.
Cost difference !
Sadly anyone can move to the Isle of Man - the other Crown Dependencies are far more choosy.
The four main islands all have different rules for those wanting to live there permanently. Jersey and Guernsey are difficult. You either need to be very wealthy or have a needed skill or profession. Alderney is fairly easy to move to. You do need to get a work permit if you want to work, but as long as you don't put a local out of work that should be okay. About one third of population are British retirees. Sark is tiny and has its own unique charm. Some may love the place, others find it much too small.
@M@ManxieG11nxie in your estimation why are the new comers detrimental?
@christopherk140current administration are desperate to increase population to 100k i.e. by 15% with no regard for infrastructure. They realise our population is aging and tax revenue will drop, so they are just taking anyone now.
Why no mention of the Turks and Caicos Islands?
And Ascension, Pitcairn.
@Borzasnyul There is also Tristan da Cunha but none of these overseas dependencies have a right of abode for outsiders.
Channel Islands?
Ya need to be earner of at least 8 figures, otherwise forget about it. BTW, In whole of Channel Islands, the maximum speed limit is 35 mph on most roads, while it is reduced to 25 mph in built-up areas. No fun at all, m8.
Deffo
live for free if you can afford to buy groceries that have had to be flown in from thousands of miles away.
I am no expert. Hell, I am not even British! I watched a piece last week about the Falkland Islands and not just anyone can move there. I don’t remember what qualifies you to be citizens, though you can stop there for a few years if you have specialized digital skills. I didn’t quite understand how this somehow was a delicate political waltz with Argentina and their claim to the Falkland Islands. As far North as the Falklands are with Argentina sitting in South America, I am very unsure about my usually accurate memory.
The only real claim the Argentinians have is that the Falklands are situated on the same continental shelf as South America. There were no permanent residents prior to the British.
Things you didn’t comment on:
What’s the shopping like?
Are there any good vegetarian restaurants?
What do you do with your leisure time?
How about ''You have to use your imagination''. Why expect everything on a plate? Where's your sense of adventure? Finding out for yourself!
Gib is Spanish now
Tax havens UK. A refuge for capital.
Meanwhile back in the real world of tax payers, into UK society.
Gibraltar may not survive Starmer.
We will not survive starmar .👎👎👎👎😱😱😱😵😵
Brexit is the cause of all the trouble with the EU border and the Gibs voted 99% remain.
Or the Falklands
@charlybeagrie1119 Rubbish, try redirecting your hate to someone who deserves it. Like the liar Farage or Tommy Ten names.
@stevebaker9709 You are a really negative person, how do you manage to get out of bed in the morning?
AI RUBBISH!!!
Where ever the brits go the money will follow, all brit places boom in economy. just look around the world and try and find a brit place thats suffering, there are non.
Except for Britain itself! - Interesting to see some of the places where the politicians and likes have their bank accounts, so nobody knows where they got their fortunes, allegedly not matching their jobs, (politicians' secretly sourced fortunes are not an allegation - it's part of being a politician).
Too much Ai where there's genuine material possible - and possible to get a match to get things right.
Indeed! Look how Gibraltar booms compared to the very poor Spanish province next to it and see all the Spaniards coming over the border for work each morning.
@paulberen Some politicians, far from all. Lots of Labour politicians and from the smaller parties have only the Parliamentary pension to rely on when they leave Parliament.
@stevebarlow3154 Wasn't meant to blanket presume that ALL politicians are getting sums of money paid into their off-shore accounts.
If there's something though that is common to a large majority - that is their assumption that they are superior to their 'voters' who as soon as they become councillors, for example, they have to deliberately market themselves to voters, and along with this the voters are inferior and need government - need politicians to make their decisions for them.
Some 9 out of 10 UK Police Officers talk down at people, playing a power game, that's a parallel to politicians motivation to get to places where they have influence and power.
I knew about Montserrat and The Falklands
are you an a.i bot ?
Labour will try and give it all away and bill ia for privilege like they are seeking to do with Chagos. They genuinely hate us and our nation.
No where in Britain is free unless you are a billioniar.
Can Gibraltar survive Starmer and Labour ?
Can WE?... 🤔
@mrd6666 Yes! Next question.
Heres what nobody tells you. This is AI generated slop, garbage, vomit and puke.
But apart from that, did you enjoy it?
Reality check - a British passport gave residence rights to 27 countries until boomers voted to lock themselves out. Oh and NONE of the places mentioned here have automatic residence for Brits. This is just Brexiter pandering.
Yeah, all run by Elite totalitarian regimes.
LIVE FREE HUH. NO FOOD TO BUY? TICKETS TO USE TRANSIT? NO GAS?
GEE FREE HUH. LOLS. GOOFY PERSON.
Pirates...Malvinas son Argentinas...melancholic and anachronic imperialist.
