It's the action-sci-fi version of Ground Hog Day, and the genre has been done to death. With only Ground Hog Day and Edge of Tomorrow being the only decent time loop films. The only possible plot would involve them having a team that knows how to chase the conditions to create the time loop effects, and somehow figuring out how to bring other people in to the loop, but since they killed the big bad of the invaders, they'd have to set it in space taking the attack to incoming forces, maybe to try to reset to a point before the first attack and then try destroy the aliens before they reached Earth.
HEL NO! It was an adaptation of the manga named "All You Need Is Kill". The manga has no sequel because the story ended with a nice little bow, the movie did so too in its own way. Why tf would you make a sequel that has no source material and will end up ruining the franchise? Fuk this hollywood sequel trend man, they just can't leave a good film alone, they always have to ruin good cinema. This is why hollywood is going down the drain. Pathetic.
I'm up for a prequel showing Rita's journey.. joining the battle, getting stuck in the loop, her story with Hendricks, and her version of where the battle ended... doesn't need to be a happy ending bc we know what happens next... then that could dove tail into the first movie... No need for Tom to be in the prequel either, just focus on Rita's story.
That I would watch. It would be fun to end the sequel with the last sequence of the movie: Rita going "Yes?" and Bill laughing. Could even be the only time we see Bill.
That’s the _only_ reason to make another movie. It would need a similar story arc as the original. Unfortunately, it would only appeal to fans of the first movie. Many people would hate that her story ends in despair and isolation.
It's a great stand alone movie. I say just leave it be at this point. It really doesn't need a sequel. How about just doing a different and original movie instead of another sequel?
There have been tons of fans clamoring for a sequel or prequel for many years. They're still doing original movies. Doing a sequel doesn't preclude doing original movies too. And technically a sequel or prequel would be an original movie because it wouldn't be adapting something as the novel was already told in the first film.
I legit finally watched this movie about a month ago, and it is phenomenal. Absolutely great. And when Emily hits that yoga pose... man, she could end wars 😊
@dgodrummer8110 googled it. Don't understand how a gentleman is a simp for saying a beautiful woman is beautiful. What happened to this world. Damn shame. People shouldn't be afraid to give roses to strangers.
Edge of Tomorrow is very different to the manga it took inspiration from and is loosely based upon (All You Need Is Kill), but it's a great stand-alone movie. I agree with the sentiment about a prequel focusing on Rita would be pretty cool, or if there was a series that covered the timeline from the beginning of the war to the end from a societal perspective - maybe like Tom Cruise's version of War of the Worlds.
It's also not-so-loosely based on 'The Americanization of Emily" which few seem to have noticed even though it's very obvious -- Tom Cruise is basically channeling James Garner's 'lovable coward' character. And is it really a coincidence that Garner's love interest was played by Julie Andrews, while Cruise's is Emily Blunt -- and both actresses played Mary Poppins?
She’s so dang charming. So many actors exude this “better than” attitude, which probably comes from a place of deep insecurity, or narcissism. But Emily Blunt always keeps herself on the same level of whomever she’s interacting with. She genuinely laughs at their jokes, and carries them further. She’s great at banter, which allows for friendly familiarity. She could not be more down-to-earth. She’s a real person rather than a persona.
@@markhepworth She’s also a U.S. citizen. So she’s got British humour, and American humor. British manners and politeness, and American outgoing friendliness. She lacks the stereotypical coarseness that can be endemic to both countries, (neither a hooligan nor a hick). She displays no British snobbishness nor American arrogance. Gosh! She’s practically Canadian!
Apparently, part of all that physical training was some yoga. That moment where she bends up off the floor...is that "sun salutation?"...was one of the most awesomely attractive moments in film. Unlike many guys, I prefer a more understated frame, and Emily has it... on top of being terrific in the part.

The General's plan would be to bomb the Omega out of existence. They stick the device in Cruise's character's leg. He says the Omega is at the Louvre. The General - having full command of the military - orders an immediate airstrike on the Louvre, and bombs the Omega out of existence. The end.
I bought the edge of tomorrow movie on accident. Such a lucky accident as I was trying to buy Oblivion and Edge of Tomorrow had the word 'Oblivion' on the DVD case. They tricked me into watching the better movie.
Every few months or so, I religiously look for news about the Edge of Tomorrow sequel. It's never 100% off, but never gets on track as well. All the parties seem interested, but timing always seems to be the issue.
Please do not make a sequel. Why is Hollywood so excited to ruin a great story over cheap profits and milking a story? This is why people don't go to see movies anymore.
I always thought the sequel would work well with William Cage discovering his newfound abilities associated with the Omega hive brain, including coping with the Omega's last fleeting feelings before its death: INVASION. Knowing the Mimics are returning, William urges action and learns he can gift "memory retention" to others after resetting the day. William trains the forces to act, think, and anticipate like the Mimics at lethal levels. Humanity finally engages with the Mimics on their level, unlike in the first film, where they annihilate them.
What if, and hear me out... A new conflict starts, but the Omega is nowhere to be found. Will is plagued by strange visions of the future while he and Rita fight the Mimics. However, killing an Alpha again resets the day, so Will, Rita and co. have to go out of their way not to kill any Alpha while surviving to reach some or other destination that Will appears to be drawn to. Turns out Will is the new Omega and is luring the last of the opposing forces into an ambush that will give him supreme reign over the planet. Rita gets through to him, but in doing so, she is merged with his consciousness and together they over rule over humanity, or at least, those that remain.
Nice! 👍 The plot themes from my original post: + Evolution and Adaptation: William Cage and humanity must evolve to counter the alien threat, reflecting evolution in strategy, learning, and enemy adaptation. + Sacrifice and Leadership: William's decision to train others demonstrates sacrifice and leadership, utilizing his abilities for humanity's defense. + Connection and Empathy: William's empathy toward the Omega suggests a deeper understanding and potential reconciliation with the enemy. + Unity and Teamwork: Training forces to mimic the enemy emphasizes unity and teamwork, showcasing humanity's ability to fight as a cohesive unit. + Resilience and Determination: The narrative highlights humanity's resilience and determination to overcome challenges, refusing to give up in adversity. ----- The plot themes from your post: + Inner Conflict: Will's transformation causes internal turmoil, exploring the consequences of power on humanity. + Fate vs. Free Will: The narrative questions destiny versus personal choice as Will follows mysterious visions. + Moral Ambiguity: Characters grapple with ethical dilemmas, especially Will's transformation from hero to potential tyrant. + Sacrifice and Love: Rita's sacrifice and connection with Will illustrate the power of love amidst darkness. + Power and Control: The narrative delves into the corrupting influence of power on individuals and society. + Identity: Will's transformation challenges perceptions of identity and humanity. ----- A third plot idea: In the wake of their hard-fought victory over the Mimics, Major William Cage and Sergeant Rita Vrataski find themselves embroiled in a conflict of a different nature. The world is on edge, piecing itself together when reports of isolated incidents hinting at Mimic activity begin to surface. These aren't attacks but cryptic messages seemingly pointing towards an unknown objective. Still experiencing echoes of the time loop ability and haunted by visions that hint at an unresolved threat, Cage believes these anomalies may be the key to understanding the Mimics' true intentions. Driven by the fear that the Omega's death did not mark the end of the invasion but merely a pause, Cage and Vrataski embark on a covert mission to track down these anomalies. Their journey leads them to discover a hidden enclave of Mimics, not as foes but as refugees of a cosmic war seeking asylum on Earth. The Omega, it seems, was but a general in a more significant interstellar conflict, and with its death, these remnants are cut off from their kind, stranded. The revelation forces humanity to confront a moral quandary: can former enemies unite against a common, yet unseen, extraterrestrial threat? Cage, wielding his unique connection to the Mimics' hive mind, finds himself as an intermediary, bridging the chasm between human distrust and Mimic desperation. With Vrataski's tactical acumen, they devise a bold plan to integrate the Mimics into Earth's defenses, leveraging their time-resetting abilities in a controlled manner to preempt the approaching cosmic storm. As the new alliance teeters on the brink of collapse under the weight of skepticism from both sides, a more significant, more devastating wave of the interstellar conflict looms. Cage and Vrataski must navigate the treacherous waters of politics, fear, and prejudice to prepare for a battle that will decide the fate of Earth and the galaxy. In this sequel, the struggle for tomorrow is not just against the known enemy but against the very concept of fear and hatred, challenging what it means to fight for the future. Themes of this plot: + Unity and Cooperation: The story emphasizes building alliances with former enemies to face more significant threats, promoting understanding and collaboration over prejudice. + Conflict and Perception: It explores enemy perception, showing that adversaries like the Mimics, depicted as refugees, can share common ground, challenging the notion of a clear-cut enemy. + Adaptation for Survival: Highlighting the necessity of adaptation, both the Mimics and humanity must evolve to survive against universal challenges, underlining resilience and innovation. + Moral Questions: The narrative probes the ethics of war and the treatment of 'others,' pushing characters to confront ethical dilemmas and question their values. + Identity and Change: Through William Cage's unique role, the story examines identity and transformation, suggesting that crises can reshape personal identity and purpose. + Redemption Possibilities: The story suggests a hopeful outlook by proposing that reconciliation and forgiveness can lead to peaceful coexistence even after prolonged conflicts. ----- I would eagerly watch a sequel that incorporated any of these story treatments. 🙂👍
Emily Blunt in Edge of Tomorrow is how you play a strong woman character believably. No emasculation of the male roles, necessity has burned out every weakness. God she's such a great actor
The only negative thing about a Edge of Tomorrow sequel is that there's almost no chance Tom won't be in it... I wish he wasn't. lol But Emily is great!
I would argue with anyone despite different genres Edge of Tomorrow is better than Oppenheimer film making, acting, even directing wise. Its pure golden cinema and catches its leads at their best - even the great BIll Paxton outshines so many big big A-Listers in a tiny part in comparison to most in Edge of Tomorrow.
She may think the character lost all femininity, but she looked gorgeous in that role, and any man watching that film, who isn't simping for the beautiful woman talking nonsense, would say she was very feminine in that role, and very accessible, considering how far Tom Cruise's lead character got with her in one day.
I'd trust the same team to make a great sequel, please God do not go the way of Lucas and Spielberg.... their heretic musings are the cause of most of that Fandom to turn off
It's funny listening to her talk about her hardcore & muscled version like she wasn't still incredibly hawt. Maybe even hotter, in a different context.
Emily understandably & famously doesn't want to do a Superhero movie, but she played a great one in Edge of Tomorrow :) Ppl would love another original from the Liman, McQuarrie & Butterworth creative team! The 2014 movie which grossed $370.5m worldwide would've needed to gross over $550m just to break even during its theatrical run given its $178m production budget & $100m+ marketing budget.
@@AllInTheGame01 Newsflash, you don't know what a superhero movie is and you clearly don't know anything about Edge of Tomorrow. It is not from a comic book. The story is from a Japanese novel. The characters are all humans with no superpowers, doofus. Clearly you either didn't watch it or didn't understand it at all. There is no superhero in it and the story has nothing to do with superheroes. Have you ever seen it being described by journalists or promotional material as a superhero movie? No one in their right mind who watches it thinks it has anything to do with superheros. It's a science fiction action movie about humans trying to win against an extra-terrestrial existential threat. You laughably calling it a superhero movie or any character in it a superhero is as ridiculous as calling any science fiction action movie, like War of the Worlds, a superhero movie.
"...stripped of all femineity..." Hate to break it to you Emily, but your feminine qualities were on full display and absolutely stunning. The misconception about men is that we don't want strong female characters. We do. We just want them to be incorporated into a wholly-female character who is appropriately and consistently confined to the rules of nature presented in her world. Not one that is rejecting a biological truth and pretending to be "just like a man". We already have strong male characters, we don't need a new version of that which demeans both men and women. The juxtaposition of a purely-woman character who pushes herself to absolute maximum to be a ruthlessly lethal action hero is so compelling, most viewers can't look away. On the other hand, viewers immediately stop caring about a movie/show due to cringe overload, when a female character is only bad ass because "men are bad", or is desperate to prove they are "just as [insert adjective] as men", or is editorially gifted unearned "boss mode", or doesn't obey the laws of physics as presented in the story. Keep doing you Ms. Blunt. We love every minute of it.
That’s because she’s been living that movie sequel the last few years now. Correct Emily blunt? Reboot. Eternal. Now. Present. In Jesus Christs name we pray amen.
In describing what made the female character an action hero she said she had to basically act like a man. This is why feminism is ironically opposed to femininity.
I have to disagree, she doesn't become a feminist to kill aliens. Her main point is she looses her humanity and becomes a killing machine. That's not like a man.
@@charlievarley Emily said something along the lines of “she is stripped of all her femininity.” She’s not gentle, delicate, sweet. She’s hard, unbending, mission-focused.

-----
The plot themes from your post:
+ Inner Conflict: Will's transformation causes internal turmoil, exploring the consequences of power on humanity.
-----
A third plot idea:
In the wake of their hard-fought victory over the Mimics, Major William Cage and Sergeant Rita Vrataski find themselves embroiled in a conflict of a different nature.
Themes of this plot:
+ Unity and Cooperation: The story emphasizes building alliances with former enemies to face more significant threats, promoting understanding and collaboration over prejudice.

I would eagerly watch a sequel that incorporated any of these story treatments. 🙂👍
Emily Blunt in Edge of Tomorrow is how you play a strong woman character believably. No emasculation of the male roles, necessity has burned out every weakness. God she's such a great actor
its a fun rewatchable movie.
i hope Tom wants to do it too, if they can write a good sequel for it
I rewatched it the first time I saw it.
@@willpeony5534 😄
Nothing “needs a sequel”, but when they’re done well they are a of fun!
Great film, doesn't need a sequel.
Lets do it 👍
I’ve seen it twice I’d watch it again.
This and Oblivion are great sci-fi movies but let them be, it doesn’t need a sequel or prequel.
I don’t like action in general but I did love it ❤
I am really surprised this movie never got a sequel. Better than any of the MCU movies.
The Sequel should be a rom com about Tom's character trying to date Blunt's Character but she has no knowledge of their "past".
sci fi 50 first dates
If EB gets into that toned shape she was in the first one, I'll buy the damn DVD!
The only negative thing about a Edge of Tomorrow sequel is that there's almost no chance Tom won't be in it... I wish he wasn't. lol But Emily is great!
My all time favorite action/sci-fi, dare I say it even more than Aliens
One of the best movies ever made seriously
What would they call it?
Edge of the Day After Tomorrow
Or
Live Die Repeat Repeat
Or
All You Still Need Is Kill
I would argue with anyone despite different genres Edge of Tomorrow is better than Oppenheimer film making, acting, even directing wise. Its pure golden cinema and catches its leads at their best - even the great BIll Paxton outshines so many big big A-Listers in a tiny part in comparison to most in Edge of Tomorrow.
yeaa true. Oppenheimer is boring haha
I loved Oppenheimer actually - didn't find it boring - but Edge of Tomorrow was just that much better.@@tsydamian2025
It's a great movie, love it.
I’m gonna go ahead and disagree with that whole “stripped of femininity” thing
I personally thought this was a great movie and only watched it again on Netflix the other day. 10 out of 10 for me all day long.
Probably my favorite Tom Cruise movie. Super underrated
She may think the character lost all femininity, but she looked gorgeous in that role, and any man watching that film, who isn't simping for the beautiful woman talking nonsense, would say she was very feminine in that role, and very accessible, considering how far Tom Cruise's lead character got with her in one day.
Edge of Tomorrow 2: The Day Before Yesterday
Wouldn't a sequel take place BEFORE the original timeline?
Nah. One was the perfect number of these movies.
Edge of Tomorrow was a love story.
I'd trust the same team to make a great sequel, please God do not go the way of Lucas and Spielberg.... their heretic musings are the cause of most of that Fandom to turn off
GREAT movie. Leave it at that; NO sequels…
He is not cowardly for the whole movie bro.
this movie was awesome, criminal it doesnt have sequels
She's hotter without makeup. This movie was good. We don't need a sequel.
I never noticed before but if you close your eyes when EB laughs it sounds just like Kamala...
It's funny listening to her talk about her hardcore & muscled version like she wasn't still incredibly hawt. Maybe even hotter, in a different context.
Its based on a manga isnt it?
Prequel, yes. Sequel, absolutely not.
100% I have been waiting for the second movie.
what's with the pink - a Barbie suit
"stripped of all femininity"
Uh, it was you, Emily Blunt, so no. Not possible to lose any femininity no matter how ripped she is. 😍
They don't want to do a sequel because they're worried it might be repetitive
lol
Edge Of Tomorrow Sequel is never happening
Tbh, Tom is still on his Xenu contract.
first comment :) hope they do a sequel
same 🙏
We want a sequel!!!!
They have got to stop with waiting more than a decade to do a sequel BS.
I hope not, she’s a very far cry from the shape she was in for that movie. She’s old and frumpy now.
More like around $400 million to break even. I believe it did very well on digital and dvd/blu-ray so I'm sure in the end it made a profit.
@@kelex12 Talking strictly theatrical, cos studios really do like for their movies to at least break even during their theatrical runs!
Edge of Tomorrow isn't a superhero movie and nobody in it is a superhero. People in it are humans with no superpowers.
@@carpediemearth Newsflash - a lot of superheroes from comic books are also 'human & very flawed' - these weren't new concepts in Edge of Tomorrow!
Edge Of Tomorrow sequel is never happening
There's no real conversation (bullshit)
She’s gorgeous, but that outfit…….. ugh lol
Why is she dressed like Willy Wonka?
I love you EB, but please stop working with cult leaders who rob families of their livelihood and loved ones...he's a terrible person.
A wheres the part about pain? haha CLICK BAIT
Lay off the botox, Emily.
👍🙏😎🦅🇺🇸
The Edge of tomorrow shows exactly how make a strong female character!!
She looks different. Facial fillers? Just… no.
