I thoroughly enjoyed watching your dog, he felt he was being ignored. Sometimes he just wanted a pat, and other sometimes he wanted to play with the ball. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha soooooo adorable
Just been recommended your channel. We bought our first home last summer and spent all our money doing up the inside, so have very limited funds to do the front and back gardens. We've just done the front (old pea shingle/cat litter), put in a flower bed and covered the rest in slate, and this weekend I'm laying a red brick patio, by myself, in the back. We were quoted 2.6k for a 3mx3m area! Aside from the manual labour (a weekend of shifting earth and this weekend to lay), it's costing just shy of £400 - part of that is because I didn't have the right tools so needed to buy them. Thank you for giving me the confidence to give it a go myself. The arrival of the bricks and sand was a bit daunting i'll admit 😅
Nice job. A lot of people use a 3-4-5 triangle method to square large areas. Any combination of 3 and 4 units of length on the corner legs will have a diagonal of 5 units when square. You can even do it with a 1 unit stick and no measuring tape.
Fantastic. Thank you - not just for the video but all those links to the stuff you used. That's over and beyond being helpful!! Road Pins - never knew they even existed but I can think of so many times I could have done with them! Thanks again 👍 Richard, Northampton.

True inspiration to others, really good job. Very impressive work, you should be very proud of yourself. I also watched the fence video, another cracking job.
I feel I need to reiterate this for the odd comment coming through. This ABSOLUTELY HAS HARDCORE SUB-BASE UNDERNEATH AND WEED CONTROL and I DO SAY THIS towards the beginning. (You can EVEN SEE IT AT THE START!!!) Why is this not part of the video? Because I didn't think a year or two before finishing it that I was going to pick up a camera and start my own RUclips channel.
The aggregate you mention - is the grey stones / rubble you can see under where you place the patio? We've just ripped up our decking and have what looks very similar but mixed with a bit of sludge from over the years! We've dug down a few inches and there is no change so hoping we can remove a layer for damp course height, whack and then place the sand on top. You are an inspiration - we've just had a quote of £2.4k for ours!
Great video - this has helped massively in my own DIY - currently half way through 80sqm of laying paving slabs!!! Saved a few grand and also burnt a few pounds (weight) so all good :) Thank you
@@TheCarpentersDaughterUK Well Vickie, 3 years on (no sense in rushing things 🙄🤦♂️😊) we've finally relaid our cheapo budget shingle patio with natural stone slabs following your inspirational tutorial vid. it is very useful for me. I have a few projects in mind, but I am planning on starting with a walkway from the driveway to the fence gate, where the dogs have worn down the grass. thank you!!

I have several tape measures but only use the key chain one rarely. You look great. You aren't supposed to make your patio level because you want the water to run away from the foundation. A 1-5 degree angle away from the foundation works.

Tip when bedding up again the house or garage, liquid treat the walls with appropriate brand. Maybe in certain circumstances using a DPC roll cut to desired depth. When you do your garage remember to put in drainage in between the garage floor and whatever you are laying
Great job.. one thing i would have done differently would be to point the gaps between the slabs with a dryish mix and not the sand as i expect you are probably getting weeds growing between them and constantly pulling them up or spraying them. This method eliminates the weeds from being able to seed and grow.
