@@PlatformONE because similar poles repell each other, and different poles atract each other, so the Earth's Nort Magnetic pole atracts the south pole of the magnet, and vice-versa.

Yes -- the Earth's North Magnetic Pole is actually a magnetic south pole. And the Earth's South Magnetic Pole is a magnetic north pole. Deane.
