A huge theme I’ve noticed throughout this series is the consequences of breaking the rules. Charmander breaks the rules of the Pokémon world in a fundamental way by rejecting humans and battle rules, which in turn leads to the destruction of Kanto through the chain of events that started with him killing Pablo, while Squirtle breaks the rules in a meta way by time traveling and unleashing Missingno. onto the world by destroying Hitmonchan’s Poke Ball as he’s being returned, which also leads to the region’s destruction.

It was Charmander who destroyed Hitmonchan's Pokeball and unleashed Missingno. Squirtle (as Wartortle) made things worse by repeatedly overwriting his save file to keep Charmander from dying, spreading Missingno.'s corruption every time he desynced.

I wouldn't be surprised if the amount of energy necessary to pull this off causes the entire game to just....cease to exist....It's happened in Tron, it's happened in System Shock....It's happened in Majestic/The Game from 1997 and 2001...It's happened with Corridor's "Glitch" episode, and now, it's happening here....I'm not surprised it's gotten to this point if you ask me.

Okay I’ve read through a lot of comments and replies about theorizing so here’s some stuff you might need to know for episode 12.

Because Dialga tried to bring back Chimchar but Squirtle instead decided to bring back Charmander, that could be the reason why he is glitched shortly after he travels back in time, and why the world gets even more glitchy after he does it, making MissingNo even stronger.
Also, when Squirtle is a Wartortle and saves Charmander from dying outside of Cerulean Cave, he says “At least I got to see him once last time” which implies that this might be the last time Charmander gets saved, or if Charmander gets saved again, Wartortle will not be in a state where he can be able to see him.
Squirtles eyes light up at 12:03 when Bulbasaur mentions “Cerulean Cave” which symbolizes a flashback (thank you random commenter that asked shippidge and actually got a response from him) which either means Squirtle remembered that being mentioned previously, or more likely, some weird timeline stuff is going here.
At 27:53, Wartortle seems to be holding a limp Celebi. Whether it’s fainted or dead we don’t know, but it’s very likely to be relevant to episode 12 with some more timeline stuff. Also during the flashback, this is very clearly not Cerulean cave. It’s in a snowy background with visible trees, but I do accept to possibility that it’s a heavily glitched version of Cerulean Cave.
At 8:35, Wartortle seems to try and stop Whiskers from evolving using the moon stone, likely because of the whole part later in the video where she’s puppeteered by a bunch of Butterfrees and almost kills Charmander. It’s likely not the most important, but still something worth pointing out.
Lastly, 8:42, the Caterpie boss acknowledges “Bluey”’s voice and pulls out a pokeball, which heavily implies that they at least tried to catch it. It’s something you’ll probably notice the first time around, but if they caught it, it’ll likely be relevant in episode 12. Y’know, Cheov’s gun and all that. Since it’s the Caterpie bosses only pokemon they have left, they might use it later, and it could be cool to see a past squirtle vs corrupted wartortle mirror match in episode 12.

A correction about Dialga. All he actually did was send Wartortle back to the moment in time that he was thinking of.
He wasn't trying to save Chimchar, that was always up to Wartortle himself.
As for the glitching, that's the result of Wartortle desyncing every time he saves Charmander before he's properly aligned with the timeline, which is what Dialga told him NOT to do.
The desync caused Missingno.'s corruption to spread, and it got even worse the further along the group got. Because each time a new version of Wartortle came back to save Charmander again, the corruption of the previous savestate that he came from ended up spreading to the new savestate, speeding up the process.
This is made clear when the last Wartortle, visibly already corrupted from his old savestate, desynced and caused the corruption in the new savestate to run rampant.

I love how with Wartortle’s timeline Charmander had a very tragic death, but with this timeline Charmander almost died 3-4 times in this single episode.
Almost like he should be dead, and the timeline keeps trying to correct itself, but Wartortle keeps changing it and things get worse.
Notice how almost everytime he’s close to death, Wartortle appears? Yeah..

After the first time Chloe died in the first life is strange
Chloe had more and more scenarios where she would have died but max kept saving her by reversing time. This is basically the same thing as Charmander getting saved by Wartotle. Because Charmander is meant to die, just like Chloe in Life is Strange. Its sad, but you cant change the fact and you gotta move on. In my opinion, even if you pick the ending where everyone but you and chloe dies, Chloes death is still inevitable.
Dont know how that reflects on starter squad, cant wait to see how it ends.

In episode 1 Squirtle explained that one of the reasons the trainer should pick him is because he can be used as a floatation device in the event of an emergency. And he repeated that in this episode when he tried to help Charmander cross the water.

@kamikazilucas Old Pokémon games were played on outdated devices - Game Boy, Nintendo DS, the like. Nowadays, if you don't have'em and all you have is a PC, your only option is to use an emulator.
Emulators have a built-in save system called save states, which saves the exact state the game was in at the moment of the save. This is inherently different from regular saves, 'cuz even the RNG state is saved, though not always to a totally exact degree.
You'd understand it better if you got an emulator and played yourself.

@Nezsem Basically in episode 1 of the series, squirtle explained the reason he should be picked over charmander was because “he could be used as an emergency floatation device” (or whatever he said), to which charmander promptly called it lame, yet now useful again here.
The fact tho that he didn’t even get a chance cuz his future form just threw em across-

Ever since episode 10, I knew that episode 11 would involve time travel LOL
My theory is that it’s not just Wartortle, but Char and Bulbasaur evolving, meeting Dialga, and going back the save each other, which caused disruption and caused them to all to turn into missingno. That would explain the glitches earlier in the series.

I feel honoured to see this series evolve from a comedy show about starters trying to survive in the wild, to a raging error corrupting the world with lore and depth. Seeing Squirtle try and fix his past mistakes, and going back in time multiple times to stop Charmanders death is truly heartwarming.

Wartortle's determination to keep Charmander from dying again shows how badly his death in the original timeline has broke him. The lengths he went to keep his friend safe no matter the cost shows how true their friendship is despite what happened in the past. I'm so happy that Charmander is back.

Their last scene was them going near corrupted wartortle, likely intent on capturing him. They may appear in the final episode as the trio reach mewtwo and he attempts to fix this, only for leader caterpie to appear, throw the pokeball releasing missingno wartortle, it touches mewtwo and he gets assimilated, then leader caterpie, with the final fate of the trio likely having to face they will die.

Or maybe a bittersweet ending where the trio sadly die but do help save their world for the next generation(heh). Maybe by some stroke of arceus he comes down and helps fix the world, or maybe one more time they change the save, except making it so that the timeline resets completely rather then some parts. It’s unknown and I’m just coming up with stuff.

Ex: The version that initially rescued Charmander from The Caterpies got erased, thus making a new timeline/becoming one with his current self.
2. Bulbasor saves him against flareon. So future squirtle probably had no impact there.
3. Future Squirtle saved Charmander against whiskers, but this Squirtle comes from a timeline where Charmander died in that very moment.
So Squirtle(present) lived out his life again, and than traveled back once he evolved against Snow and saved Charmander again.
4. The 4th time from the lake, he looks damaged, probably from the pokemon in cerulean cave. So it's implied Charmander died from the wild pokemon in cerulean cave, thus leading to Squirtle escaping and living out his life again, evolving, and than traveling back again to save him from the Lake.

It seems to me, that when Wartortle was sent back to Chimchars moment before death, he was thinking of Char MORE, and thus was sent there, but he also failed to sync with his past self in that moment, causing them to be seperate but also remain connected.
Every time that Char is saved, its by Wartortle LITERALLY rippin himself from the code to try re-syncing, but he fails every time leadign to him glitching out again. And it seems that in the Glitch dimension, there is a Kadabra seemingly trying to hold it all together, and thus blaming Wartortle for his continued efforts keeping Char alive, to the detriment of the World Save.

I mean, to me it more feels like both but not so much Wartortle being unable to move on. I agree Wartortle was unable to truly save Charmander as it seems like the timeline was constantly trying to fix itself by having him die in some way. At 28:40 though, I'm willing to bet this is him after several hundreds or even thousands of attempts of trying to save Charmander. As you know, he said "I couldn't do it..", likely referring to trying to save his friend from his fate. "But at least I got to see him one more time" I think this is basically saying that he's glad to have seen Char again, even if he couldn't save him, which is a form of moving on.
At the end I believe that's going to be the cost of the fix, sadly..

@BunnyWhoDraws5989 the implication seems to be misingno was created by squirtle repeatedly going back in time, but then charmander ended up releasing him when he broke hitmonchans pokeball which happened before misingno should exist in the timeline since it was before the first time reverse point, basically it’s time travel and it’s fucking weird but at very least squirtle did seemingly make misingno with his time travel shenanigans
