There have been figure head mayors in San Antonio, but Julian Castro is not one of them as his tenure is remembered fondly just like Phil Hardberger Lila Cockrell and Henry Cisneros.

As a Los Angeles native, I don't think I would vote Mayor Garcetti for president. There are huge problems in Los Angeles that has gone unnoticed and/or have been delayed by his office. Residents are being displaced due to tech money and wealthy foreigners. "Welcome to Silicon Beach!" Nobody can afford to live in this city anymore. Rent is at an ALL TIME HIGH and the average price for a small home anywhere in Los Angeles is close to a million. Hard working families, teachers, blue collar workers, young professionals and students are forced to move far from work, school and family just to survive. Were are seeing multiple upscale condos and McMansions taking the place of what used to be an affordable property. Homelessness is at an all time high. I don't think Mr. Garcetti has earned the right to presidency when his own people are facing a crisis. I really want to believe he is the right guy for the job but I just can't.
To be fair, this didn't start on Garcetti's watch. It's just as bad, if not worse, in San Francisco and San Diego. Blame it on Prop 13 and NIMBYs (I do). Also, LA had a rent control ballot measure (Prop 10) in the last election, and it went down in flames--my biggest regret in the last election. I've been here for 20 years, and I am never leaving my tiny westside rent-controlled apartment. That all being said, I agree, I don't think Garcetti would make a good President--not yet, anyway. But the current housing crisis and its cancerous growth is not entirely his fault.
Another place this has been happening big-time is Vancouver, BC Canada. Young mainland Chinese adults are moving there in droves, opening up their own businesses (fine) with tons of money to do so... many businesses can't start up or if established can't compete.. the worst is the cost of housing. Entire neighborhoods are spiraling out of control. So many are affected, it's very sad to read some horror stories. And of course - those spoiled kids don't give one rat's ass.

True, Congress sent a budget bill they unanimously voted to pass, it was to go to the WH to be signed.
On the Senate floor they were singing carols and getting ready to leave - all were in high spirits.
Then as the senators left for home... 45 was watching t.v. and heard that if he signed the budget bill he would be a joke President. That he didn't follow through on his threat to shut down the gov't. he shouldn't make them if he was going to cave.
Well, 45 chose not to sign... but he didn't veto it either. He didn't do his job.
Currently, the House has sent the same budget bill to the Senate... Mitch won't bring it to a vote because 45 won't sign it. That's no his job. His job is to bring bills to the floor for votes... not only allow votes on bills 45 likes.
Now Mitch could have those bills passed, the House has even sent the budget bills individually, to try and fund the govt. for a while, get workers back to work and to stop the shutdown. But Mitch has stated he won't bring any of the bills to the floor to be voted on. His excuse is crap and nothing more than obstruction, which is what he's always done when it comes to Dems.
He's the reason we can't get around 45 - Congress has the votes to overturn the veto of this dude. It would be good to make him realize he can't always have his way. For the last 2 years, the GOP party has spoiled him.
