- "So there I am next to the circus roustabout, he's standing next to me and on action, I dive head-first...free fall to the camera."
Keir Dullea chats about filming one of the most scariest and challenging scenes from 2001: A Space Odyssey, part of the 70mm film print series screening the winter! tiff.net/70mm
One take, and one great movie. Keir was fabulous and so was Gary.
The handsomeness, my gawd
Still handsome, even in his 80s now!
One of my all-time favourite actors in one of my favorite movies
It is strange though, that he never really became a superstar in Hollywood...he had the looks, was a solid actor. He has said that he preferred the stage.
Keir is brilliant in 2001
That roustabout must have been one big strong dude to stop Keir's fall.
Having met Keir not too long ago, I can say he's not that big. I don't think he's changed much since 2001 was filmed. The roustabout he said was a big guy who could handle ropes and lines for trapeze artists so I doubt it would have been anything to handle Keir's weight.
Doesn't anybody have any questions about that blast of vapor that accompanies Keir when he's ejected?
That's a good question. I've always wondered about that.
❤❤❤
wasn't just the helmet he wasn't wearing.... he wasn't wearing gloves either.... poor crew preparation as scripted....
Also, in addition to his gloves and helmet, Dave wasn't wearing his oxygen tank.
I saw the film in its first release in Cinerama.. I remember every patron got a program with an included statement from Arthur C. Clarke referring to controversy regarding that particular scene, and he defended the science behind it. I wish I had saved the program. I wonder if any of the Blu-Ray releases have it as supplemental material.
