- Today was an amazing day! We traveled to Ohio to chase down a novelty point break lead & meet up with Sam and Caleb, the guys who discovered the wave. This could potentially be the best point break in Ohio! I've never seen a wave on the Great Lakes break like this so I'm extremely excited to the surf the spot & see what Lake Erie has to offer FOR THE DREAM! Thank you for all of the stoke & support! - Ben

I really like the close-up drone shots. Good to see Brian and his fresh angles. Shout out to Sam for being so cool, and Dieter for being so generous. The NUB Nation appreciates you. For The Dream.
Yeeeewwwww! Thanks for the kind words!
Hi Ben,
I discovered your channel approximately 4 years ago, when I taught my son how to surf Presque Isle Pa. I just happened to be looking for other people who have experienced the surprising amazing surf that Pa has to offer. When I saw your video, I became an instant fan, and I have been following you ever since. Thank you for all of your hard work, and determination to succeed, which you did BIG TIME. Being that I am from Pittsburgh, Presque Isle is less than two hours from me. I am truly blessed and proud that I have this Freshwater Dream so close to home. Since you obviously are the King of Novelty waves, here is a tip for you: if you have howling southwest winds, go to Budy Beach at the tip of Presque Isle. Since it faces the North east, you get clean point break conditions. No joke, it can look like Malibu, well maybe that is a stretch, but you get my point, no pun intended, lol. Anyway, this is the best kept secret of Pa! Congratulations on your marriage and for your awesome blogs! You really have given me a reason to pick up my tablet everyday!
Sincerely,
Dan - Big fan ✌️
Yewwww🤙
I dont think Ben read your post and being from California I won't be crowding up your secret wave but I do think you should try and send Ben another comment regarding your mini Malibu. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE SOME FOOTAGE, and I think it's really cool you are sharing it, dont worry very few people will ever make a road trip to surf in that part of the world which is a good thing for you my friend. Keep up the surfing with your family it pays off after every session I'm sure you know. Wish you good health and good waves buddy.
Shout out to Deter! He’s such a bro for letting you guys surf🤙🏽
Legend.
that point break, so sick!! scores 10 on the novelty factor too.
I appreciate your stoke brother....and that you provide the stoke in others.....that's what it's about brother!!!
Great video and welcome to The Land. That's my home harbor and I've been sailing out of there all my life. Glad you liked it and you proved to many that The Great Lakes are GREAT!
The honeymoon's over baby. Welcome back to the endless adventure. But I also can't wait to see some quality El Slammo!
Well Sam, you may have just killed a unicorn. That is what we surf here on the lakes, unicorns. Wonderful things that shouldn't exist, but thank God they do. Great vid, great music, too much info. It is tough to see people show up at a secluded spot, but its good to know that people still have a sense of adventure to find one. Please show the utmost respect to those who live in this small community. They hold the key to the unicorn's lair. Please Sam, in the future, no names, and no locations. Just the surf. I know you dig making vids, and we dig watching them. Let surfers experience the same stoke that fills your heart when you pull up to a "new" spot you have been studying, and its firing. Its so much easier to accept surfers to a secret spot when they "found" the spot themselves, rather than got the coordinates off of some site. Adventure, man. Let them find it. Peace.
He ( Sam) wants to be known at any cost.
Bro obviously people reached out to him because they want Ohio to look like a legitimate surf destination but I promise you you won't be having California's Floridians or Hawaiians or really any Coast on America coming out there to surf this because most of us won't f*** with that cold of water nor would we spend the money to drive or fly to f****** Ohio for a s*** ass little left when we could easily spend the same money in go somewhere better. Don't trip because I've dealt with surf spots getting found out a few different times in my life and you just got to deal with it because none of us own this Earth
I traveled a lot in the mid-1990s. One time I had to change planes in Cleveland and it was during a blizzard. While on final approach, we broke through the clouds and I could see a bunch of left hand point breaks that looked like they were firing. At least they looked that way from 2000 ft AGL at 300 mph in a blizzard.
These dudes were straight on target with the time and swell live the dream, I did till my knees said stop.RIGHT ON.
When I saw the words Ohio and Surf in the title I had to hit play 👍🌊👍 Nothing like the crystal brown waters of Lake Erie 😄 love the camera work and the music mix nice job 👍
Scoring lake wave's.. For The Dream with a forecast of waves an 10sec intervals wow trippy.🤘💪✌️🇦🇺
The jetty in Huron catches a swell. Hit it after moving there from Australia back in late 70s -80s. Sometimes on the other side of river also.
Gravy 🔥🔥🔥🔥 always a Great Positive Vibe 💯
Around 15:00 mark you were at Bradstreet Pier in Rocky River. Back around ‘91 my brother and I surfed a storm an early fall Nor’easter that blew all night and by daybreak the waves were 6-8’ above the end of the pier. According to the weather the lake was at 12-14’ We used the west side of the pier to help give us cover paddling out. When the Lake is really big it’s feels like being stuck on the inside the whole time… no matter how far you paddle out there is always a wave ready to break on you. It was for sure an epic day but completely exhausting too! It wasn’t the typical relaxing day in sun waiting for the next set to come in. Lake surfing very different obviously, if the wave looks good take it because the one behind it might look better but odd are it gets blown out by time you lined it up. Love your channel and maybe someday soon I’ll get back out in our Great Lake sadly it’s been more then 20 years since I last surfed it. You guys keep doing what your doing and continue the surfing dream here in the north coast!
that was just rad. It is so much more interesting to me watching surfing in places that you think don't have waves then to watch the 10,000 video of a break in hawaii.
Beautiful 🤩 Happy New Year Surf Crew
A very entertaining vid short here Ben ! Looks like you sure had a great time in Erie...GREAT novelty waves ! And right ON Sam Skelton for being the experienced tour guide...! ...e..
GRAVY NAVY....YO I WAS IN MINNESOTA AND GOT NAILED BY 14" OF SNOW WITH THAT COLD FRONT YOU SURFED IN OHIO!!👍👍❤️❤️
I would like to start by saying that Ben, I dig watching your shit. It is a lot of fun. Love the stoke and the craziness of the Novelty search.. Also...this is not your fault. So...here we go...These are heavy claims. First to surf it? Discovered by Sam? None of this is factual. There has been a surfing tribe on the south shore of Lake Erie since the sixties. I started in the late 80s and was shown the way by those before me. This was all word of mouth. Pre internet. Myself, and a few others have scoured every inch of shoreline from Toledo to Presque isle. We have searched, done research with charts and wind directions, scouted any remotely publicly accessible spots, and even snuck snuck into private property. We also spent a lot of time, and money driving to these places to see what conditions work on these spots. As you know, this ain't groundswell. The south shore of Erie is not some frontier. It is an extremely populated area with a decades old surf culture. Anything that can be surfed, has been surfed. This is not a secret spot per say...you can see it from the bridge, so the fact that it was found, not "discovered", isn't really an issue. There was a stretch of time where we were friendly with the security guard on the east side of the river. He would let us park and surf there. That spot has been heavily surfed in the past. Access is the big issue, as you have seen. I have paddled a board 1/2 mile from an up river boat launch to surf there. I have also dragged a board behind a kayak to get access. There is also a break to the east of that jetty....but you will get booted. It is private, as is almost all of this Stretch of lake Erie shore. Some of the SUP boys surf there because you can launch and paddle there. There is a Cleveland surf documentary called Out of Place. It was filmed in the early 2000s by Cleveland local Scott Ditzenburger. This whole film was made without blowing up ANY spots. It is a good watch. The wave in this vid is featured in this movie. ruclips.net/video/e5feGCOn4ec/видео.html At the 5:34 mark it makes it's first appearance. So for future reference, check with the locals, not the new to the area surfers, what can be claimed before you do so. Sam! Watch Out of Place. Know that there has been a hardcore crew charging here for a long time before you got here. Peace, Gravy.
I was just surfing there 5 days before Ben. Never a soul in the lineup. U should come back out and join me on the River. Keep reading comments about 2000s and how yall surfed it decades ago .....Sam prob didn't know cause no one is every surfing here. How would anyone know what happened 20 yrs ago. You know what I'm saying?
And that video from 2000s is so boring I can't make it 5 mins so prob why I didn't know this has been surfed either. I'm 37 and I have surfed every "secret spot" just like u guys did by using maps and wind directions (didn't ask anyone...did my own exploring) . So don't really get why this got everyone so crusty.....like why do u care? It will still be an empty line up at this river mouth next time it's firing. I would love if some people joined me in these spots....they all flock to Edgewater like seagulls instead regardless what videos expose what.
If your still surfing the river I'm surprised, I never see anyone there. Same with lagoons (land of lefties).....discovered decades ago and better not mention it. Yet always waves for days by myself.
Get what I'm saying?
@@stephenscott7881 funny I never see you out either do you even surf?
I’m assuming you’re one of the newer guys in the line up that wants everyone to tell him where to go correct me if I’m wrong?
@@stephenscott7881 How do you know when the last time we surfed it was? Decades ago? Just because you were there and we weren't? That's a bullshit argument. Just like the last spot that was blown up. Why wasn't I there? Because I was somewhere better that day, but hey...I forgot all of my cameras and drones, so it probably didn't happen. It's really not that good of a spot. It does look really cool on film, though. This spot is not, and was not a secret. I could give two fucks who surfs there. Read my response again. Obviously, claims of discovering a spot hold a lot of weight in the surfing community. Look at the big deal that was made of this. You can defend Sam all you want....but incorrect is incorrect. Research should also be a part of film making. Unless it is fiction.
'
@@stephenscott7881 yeah I just saw your “how to rip video I have never seen you out on the lake you’re definitely one of those who wants everyone to show him the way.
Rad waves 🌊 bro! Epic session .
Bombing. BOMBING...
Rocky Point, Ohio!!! For the Win
11:25 This man game is so cold 🥶
Best lake surfing session everrr!!!!
Just when I think surfing is 1,000 miles away -you show up and remind me it’s literally right in front of face if I actually look closer. Thanks for the Ohio north shore visit🤙
That's amazing!
So fun to ride along virtually and from my warm FL room!
Everyones talking about crystal clear Bluewater barreling waves but I think brown waves definitely deserve more hype imo great video btw
Whoa😳for the dream!
I mentioned i grew up on long island, but i have to confess i grew up on the sound side! Believe it or not, it is possible to surf the long island sound too! Ofcourse it has to be during a storm generally. But to this day, the best surf session of my life was in sound beach long island hours after a nor easter that actually perminently changed the north shore beaches and cliffs. Normally there waves just crash on the beach, zero sand bar. But this day was a full moon with heavy north east waves just crashing into the sand cliffs. It destroyed the beach but made a sand bar. When the wind switched to the south it forced the wind surf into 7 wave sets. It only lasted about an hour before it was flat, but i had my 5'10 fish andjumped on it. Never in my life have i seen waves in the long island sound just peeling down the beach. I was catching rights from jetty to jetty. And TONSof in/out barrels. Days ill never forget, living the dream 😉
Those are the best fresh water waves I've ever seen.
Love it guys!
Great novelty wave, and I always enjoy meeting the local crew.
So sick! Would agree on the world class especially for the Lakes! Stoked!
Awesome to see you crush that novelty. I still am surprised to see how many undiscovered novelties there are in the United States. I was just on one three hours ago. Keep on crushing it legend!!
This place was already discovered just kept quite until now...
Gravy's gonna buy one of those houses on the cliff because he found the ultimate novelty wave!
The cocktail music at the end was a nice twist...
Great blue collar wave. The wind is whipping around that point in some shots!
Editing on this video was fiiiiire
The lack of buoyancy will take some getting used to, but I think it's where a foamie will really shine🤙yeeeeew🇺🇸
Def good point
Looked like Kelly slater and Rob Machado out there with the high 5!
Wow! That is just what you surfed your the boss 😀super enjoyed best wishes Cathy O
Truly for the dream ! Don’t stop
So you take off right next to the sharp jagged rocks and then you get a nice long ride but don't forget to jump off before the big gnarly log 😄
This is some classic Gravy action
that cliff is an amazing wind break. cool spot, wild house on top of the point.
Awesome video Ben! Classic stuff… ❤️
Something about the lakes that never get old.
Hello from The Land!
Go Browns
Welcome to Ohio..its so cool to see you guys in my town. I hope you had a wonderful time..as long as you were here you and Jordon should have visited the Christmas Story House and museum right im here in Cleveland, its pretty awesome..
Great video Ben. I was stoked to see this hoping to find a new spot close to my backyard. I watched intently trying to pickup clues as to where this magical point might be, it turns out it’s less than a mile from my house and someplace I had surfed back in the days of beaver tail wetsuits. It’s best after a big thaw or rain to stack things up a bit, just make sure you’re up to date on tetanus shots. Lastly, there are also some good river bumps to surf about a mile up river, my childhood playground.
Dieter. A true legend
Yewww.
I watched the majority of your videos since I subbed to you in 2017. This one was top notch...
I have been to RR with my drone but never ran into this place. See what spring will bring.
So Sick Brother,... So Sick!🤙
Hope you guys went to presque isle in erie. Epic Hawaii size waves today.
Yewwww!!! From Ohio
Love the content man! Stoked on your message!
Dog. You’re a legend. Miss being able to road trip more than two hours for spots. Much love from the big island. Jah bless.
Pretty groovy Gravy.... You have mad skills Sir.... 🌊🏄; Merry Christmas to you and yours! 😊
THANK YOU FOR SHARING...SOO KOOL
Legend seeker!
Ben I know you are getting huge and your schedule is probably insane now with all the fame, but I hope you can come back soon. I’m right down the road and I’m a frothing dreamer. Hope to see you at Dieters back porch. Yewwwww
I can't believe I missed you pass through Cleveland. I was still in New Smyrna beach when this happened!
Wow epic lake conditions!
Wow. I saw waves there too - nearby at Battery Park - same parking lot next to Rock-n-Roll HALL OF FAME. Being from Southern California I found myself perculrily happened to start dating my dream girl, but she lived in Cleveland, literally my dream girl who lived in Cleveland. So many thoughts running through my head right now - Super fun video to watch! For the win! 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼 Yew🇺🇸
DJI Refresh Care, so worth it. You'll be glad you have it. I've gotten 2 replaced Drones for $59 ea. The Warranty is 1 yr. so even if your Air 2S is in good shape before the warranty runs out crash it so you can get the Refresh care drone for $59. Can't beat it.
Nice! I used to live right around the corner there and no the area well. Never even considered surfing there. I missed out!
So sick Ohio wave pool status yeew
Great video ben. Man u gotta find that kelly slager dude again. That guys a legend
Just thought about how sad it is that most of the coastline is not accessible in that area. What a shame and what a crime. Good thing for the German nieghbor or who knows if we would have ever seen this great footage.
+ it’s flat at home so I guess good Ben got to surf.
- Portugal is firing still…
That was rad. Next time it will be mobbed.
sick setup. my mom’s from Ohio. Hi mom!
I bet there's some really good surf on the west side of lake huron
Such a crazy spot to find haha
Good times my dude 🤘🤘
Incredible, OHIO for the dream!!
I check out a spot on the new york pa border, the waves were peeling down the shoreline. Perfect shoulder high lefts. It sucks that my band played buffalo the night before and i just stopped to check the surf a day later. Had no board and saw the best waves of my life in the lakes. Best part was it was actual swell, sun was shining and people on the beach... and ofcourse i had no board! But ive only been skunked once by going up to erie and not seeing waves
I've said it before, I never get tired of novelty waves. That one is a 9.
This is a sick spot Ben
Amazing experience my brother!
Now that's a claim "crafty wood guy" 😂
Hahaha
Gifted Sam a winter suit last year , love his vibe !!!
Excellent.
I never knew lakes had waves like that.
Hey in my neck of the woods! You passed my exit! Cleveland Rocks!
What an amazing break. Hows those houses on the hill -like having a wave pool in your back yard, Good VLOG BenG - love it . Robert from SA DOWNUNDER
so fun
Should make videos with the boogie too
Man surf off the south point of Pelee Island Erie has some rippers! I'm in Cleveburg! You were in my pond Bro! Rocky River is pretty well known up here.and try slamming that point in a kayak!! Oh yeah!! Class... ic!!!
12 ft at 9 seconds is the height and time between the next wave breaking. Sets? We don't need no stinking sets! 😂👍
That's why even ocean captains don't want to play in our ponds I've grown up going from Ohio to Pelee Island Canada in a 20Ft boat and that's just what happens, glass to whip your ass! In half an hour! Gotta love this place!😂😂👍✌️
Slow mooshy wave is what is better than nothing!
i like barcelona beach near westfield NY. dunkirk NY beach too. I met a guy who was kite boarding and he had rope around his ankle from the kite and I helped cut him free. lake was nuking.
Mr. nobel (nobelíssimo) from the red house: may all the best happen and much prosperity always for mr. and your entire family.
Did the spot in Mentor provide for you this morning? I'm the guy you passed on the trail. I know the size was starting to drop. Hope you got some.
Ben Gravy in Ohio! As a native buckeye this made my day.
mouth of the Rocky River IN Rock River, OH
Crazy.
Would be an epic place to prone foil.
Rocky River, OH
