wow dude. this is probably the most respectful well-made documentary about kurt and nirvana that i’ve ever seen. i’m an addict in recovery and as odd as it sounds, the kurt cobain story has always been comforting to me. addicts can also be good and genuine people.

Congratulations on recovering~ you’re very courageous and admirable to take the steps to fight this disease. Coming from a family filled and fueled by addiction I know how harmful it is and how much good it destroys. But there is hope & wish you so much success. You are a good person~ most addicts are. They fill emotional needs with substances~ numbing pain, abuse, feeling unwanted, unloved & many other things no one should ever have to feel. Especially little children and especially when the disease lives on through them. It can be a vicious cycle… often a terribly lonely one.
And for anyone who doesn’t believe addiction is a disease: I’m glad you were blessed and fortunate enough to be sheltered from these things. And I pray your ignorance continues and you never suffer from the horrors that this disease causes.
Kurt was such a fragile soul who hated the spotlight and his major mental illness only added to his misery. People expected him to be a god, which he hated.
I totally understand why his story would comfort others. To know someone else knows exactly how you feel makes one feel less lonely, more normal, understood, In some cases.
It hurt my soul knowing what Kurt went through during their biggest successes. He hated the limelight while Courtney loved it. Many fans of Nirvana, Soundgarden, AIC, etc, were people these guys detested. Not the type of people they were naturally drawn to & they didn’t like that they were fans.
Seeing Kury’s emotional state on stage sometimes actually made me cry. He looked like a terrified, miserable little boy.
Please keep fighting. You matter so much, you can change the world for some people, you CAN change the course of this horrible disease for YOU and the people who love you.❤️
Take care, saying prayers for your success, wishing you only good things 💜
Ps~ o hate to sound corny but I do believe everything I said. I’ve lived with so much addiction in my life and they were the salt of the earth~ wonderful inspiring people who loved the very relationships they destroyed because they couldn’t fight their demons. It breaks my heart to this very day~ 30 years later.

That is going from puberty to manhood, and it is the years one finds their views and tastes , and you become who you are in every way. Ego? There is nothing egotistical in my comment. Coming up on the 30th anniversary of his death, it still feels like yesterday and so surreal. I was 17 and he was my idol. I thought this was really well done and, you gave Kurt and his fans who lived through the hurt of his passing the respect they all deserve. My opinion is, Kurt was an easy target. Courtney’s career blossomed after his death and, too many shady characters are involved. This is a case that is easily solved, especially with the technology we have today and preserved evidence. Too bad that secrets and money seem more important than a life. RIP Kurt…you are still with us because we won’t forget you.

Posthumusly Courtney said 'why didn't you just quit then, stop being a rockstar.' But on the other hand, while he was still alive, she was bitching and pushing him to do Lollapalooza for the money. When she speaks with a forked tongue, which is pretty much all the time, why should anyone believe her ever? She's always covering her tracks with different stories, I think in hopes of causing lots of confusion, and because of being too high on drugs she forgets what she said previously. Truth is she was pressuring him to remain a rockstar because he was her cash cow.
This is a very good documentary in that it brings up some of inconsistancies that have lead to lingering questions that have not been fully answerd or satisfactorily explained. Some of them totally defying logic.

Its interesting he mentions gastro-intestinal issues soo much, and that being a driving cause of his heroin use, because I was in a similar situation. Gastro-intestinal issues happen to be a physical side effect of a host of untreated psychological issues. Trauma, depression, dysphoria, neurodivergency... pretty much anything that either causes you to be, or is caused by stress of being an "outsider". Its difficult for doctors to find the cause of these issues as well, because they're looking to treat the body rather than the mind.

i'm Kurts' age...i lived through this in real time. I saw Nirvana live 3 times (in the Texas Triangle) in 91? and then again during the US leg of Utero in 93. Two things that has alway (and still) runs through the fabric over and over for Kurt: SHAME. He not only wrote about it in several songs, but spoke about it often within interviews an in passing (from his own mouth (a/v) and written word(s). Not by someone who wasn't even around during this short period of time. Then to come from hindsight, which 99.9% of these type of uploads are loaded with errors, omissions. As for 'shame', it's propped up by reputation and perfectionism, both things that Kurt was not equipped to overcome. The turmoil is an internal conflict which a solution is needed. Thing is, a temporary solution works until it does NOT and that's the biggest fear of all. Without the tools of willingness, accurate information, a healthy perspective, another outcome is sought. With each passing year, and each subsequent post, his legacy becomes more watered down, and outliers of narratives take own a life of their own. Reality is no longer a factor, and his dignity chipped away and it's disgusting that there's literally nothing more to grasp. What maintains my peace is that: NO ONE can ever hurt him again.

And as we also know, sometimes it was he himself who chose to stay away from home, like when he slept in the lobby of the hospital or hotel, I don't remember exactly.
You are diehard fans and have read and watched a lot about him, but you always “choose” to ignore some of his words and actions, so as not to destroy the image of the “holy and naive man”.

I am so grateful to have grown up in the 90s. It was truly an amazing decade when it comes to music in all genres, but it is also one of the saddest ones. Of all the amazing and unique bands that came along during that era, very few of them are still standing and relevant today. Very few of the most notable singers of that era made it to 55, and many didn't even make it to 30. People like Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, Bradley Nowell, Scott Weiland, Chris Cornell, Shannon Hoon, Andrew Wood, Deloris O'Riordan, Chester Bennington, and many others can be counted among the most unique and talented singers and songwriters to ever grace the stage, and all of them died at a young age. Of all the major bands of that era, only Green Day has survived to this day with their original lineup intact, and with no significant periods of inactivity. Nearly every major band from the 90s has had at least one member die, or formed as the result of a death from a previous band. I look at the carnage from that decade, and I often wonder what could have been. I wonder how different music would be today if some of these bands had survived longer.

@@JimmyButthole-l9v-No...He is no longer living. I believe it was in May 2018? (Sorry if I'm incorrect about the date) He was found in his hotel room after an event, and supposedly "hung himself" from a doorknob, of all things. When the details were announced on the news about his death, the 1st thing I smelled was BS. He was happily married, and was a new dad. He had many passed issues behind him. There was no sign at all of him being depressed or substance addicted. But what does sound more likely, is that he was murdered. Murdered because, I would imagine, is that fatherhood changed him, like it does any new parent, and he and close friend Chester Bennington (Linkin Park) were organizing an event to bring awareness to child trafficking. Now if you're the type of scum bag like so many producers in the music and acting industry are, you can't have public awareness brought to a topic that exposes what your involved in, because being "ok" with forcing children or minors into sexual acts against their will, is a sickening, morally incomprehensible thing to indulge in. It doesn't take a genius to see, how someone was trying to protect themselves from exposure. That seems more likely what really happened. Especially when you consider how much we've found out about Hollyweird and famous people "selling their souls", being blackmailed, and how saturated in pedophiles the entertainment industry is. Stranger still, is how Chester Bennington was so distraught after Chris's death, just around a year later he supposedly took his own life as well.
What an evil and ugly business the music and entertainment industry is, and how dangerous it can be to become famous. It makes me wonder if there is even a single producer who isn't tangled in this evil web of blackmail, lies, and secrets. I'm sure many people had no idea what they were getting into until it was too late. It's really disturbing just how F_©ked up that is. I'd be willing to bet, once Kurt became famous, they were trying to get their tentacles on him and get him to sell out himself, but he didn't want to, and it was a price he didn't want to pay. But I bet you anything Courtney was all too willing, and angered and baffled as to why he would turn down gigs regardless of the money, and she was all too willing to prostitute herself for it, and likely jealous he became famous and she didn't.
Ever wonder how right after Kurt died, she suddenly became this new thing in Hollywood, and starred with Woody Harrelson in the movie "The people vs.Larry Flynt" with no acting experience at all? I guess it wouldn't be much of a stretch to play a drug addicted ho-bag, but it's just a bit too odd, how of all the actresses in Hollywood, why was she such a 1st choice as a relatively unknown person of interest? If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, there's only one thing it can be, though I digress, as you were inquiring about Chris Cornell. I just couldn't help but connect the dots on this because now that we can see the big picture, it makes these deaths under such strange circumstances, look that much more obvious that they weren't accidental. All so some evil bastards can hide the sickening §h*t that they do, and what has been going on for a very long time.
I would imagine the elimination of certain entertainers becomes easier and easier once it has been done so many times, and they don't feel anything after a while. What a dark and empty world those people chose to live in. Most people would never find it worth giving up the peace of a clear conscience in exchange for fame, but clearly some people do. The only problem is, they're not "allowed" to change their minds without paying the ultimate price for it.
RIP- To Chris, Kurt, and all the others, who never got to see their full potential realized because of evil. It's such a rip off.

Not that it matters to anyone but I'll share with you a short story concerning the death of our beloved Kurt. Back in 1995 when I was 18 years old I visited an old man who I new from a couple of years ago and to this day Ι still hold dear in my heart. He was a gifted person able to see things and communicate. Keep in mind that this is the summer of 1995, there is no internet to the extend that we know it today, moreover in Greece where I live in, so information concerning the Cobain case was none or scarce to say the least. So, there I am talking with him and due to a personal problem of mine he offered to help me get through it. Skipping the how and all personal details, we reach to a point where I'm telling him about Kurt and how I admired his music. It was not unusual, every time we where talking, for him to stand in silence and gaze at nothing, giving away that he was seeing things concerning the subject I would bring to the table each day. So, I go on finishing my brief rant about my admiration with his suicide and he's still looking at nothing. I wait in silence too for about half a minute until he snaps out of it and says to me "you know, some of those famous people are being killed by relatives in order to get their money" and he goes on giving me an example of a famous pop star I think Boy George (he described him to me) who was hospitalised at some point in his life and a close relative of his tried to kill him. At that point, one thing struck me from that conversation, how the hell does he know Boy George? This is an old man from some forgotten village of Greece only listening to traditional folk music... it is more than a decade later that his phrase "you know, some of those famous people are being killed by relatives in order to get their money" that actually made sense. This man is now long gone... I wish he was still around. Have a great day!

One thing I've always wondered is if Kurt ever paid Tracey back or somehow did something for her once he was a millionaire. She and Kurt were together for like 5 years, before fame-but not before Nirvana.
Tracey is the only one of the two who paid their bills. And she did it alone, for years and years. Kurt even wrote about it more than once, how crummy he feels about her working all day while he sits at home in their apartment playing guitar.
He broke up with her very close to Nevermind coming out. It would be so nice to know that he bought her a house or something at least. I haven't tapped into what's going on during recent years but I know for many, many years she never sold stories and never used his name and their connect for personal enrichment. I don't think she even sold his stuff. I think she was just a really good person who really loved Kurt. She was too good for him, which he's acknowledged. I really hope he took care of her in some way but he really wouldn't have had much time to do that before dying in 94. If he didn't do it in those couple of years between their relationship and his death then I doubt she'd ever see anything from Courtney. Courtney wanted to portray herself as having ownership of Kurt in all ways. They were only in a relationship/married for not even two years.
Maybe Frances took care of Tracey when she turned 18 if Kurt didn't.

I was 24 when this happened, and I remember turning to my friends and said, "she did it! I can't believe she really did it!" I've never had a doubt in my mind that the official story is bull$hit. She knew he was going to leave her. She knew she'd lose access to the money. Her jealousy wouldn't allow her to just let him go. Kurt was a complex man, yes, but he wasn't the tortured soul the media tried to make him out to be. He loved his daughter. He wanted to get out of the circus that is the music industrial machine. As an artist, he was looking to change his path. There was zero chance that, if he even took that massive dose of H, he would have been able to lift the shotgun, much less pull the trigger. It would have been physically impossible. The heroin would have put him immediately on the nod, and likely flat out unconscious. The shotgun shell was found on the wrong side of his body, by the way. Also, no junkie that shoots that much is able to, or has the cognitive ability to neatly put their kit back together. Everything about Kurt's death, the circumstances leading up to it, even the police reports, are incorrect. Many mistakes were made by law enforcement, whether on purpose or through negligence.
No one will ever convince me that Kurt wasn't murdered, and I'm convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that CL was 100% involved.

I remember when Kurt died, I was distraught, in a very intense way, which is not like me at all. I really liked Nirvana, but had never sobbed at a musician’s death before. I was barely pregnant with my only child, and my husband thought it was hormones. On April 5, 1999, when our daughter was 4 & 1/2, my husband suicided. The song we played at his memorial, was a fav of ours, The Beatles, ‘In My Life’. In later years I heard some tidbit about Kurt and that song, but I don’t recall it at this moment. I’ve always wished my daughter and Kurt and Courtney’s girl could meet. They have more in common than I’ve written. I am so happy that Frances(sp?) Bean was raised by her aunt and grandmother. As a widow who has never remarried, because Mark was my soulmate, I have tried to find compassion for Courtney, but she emanates intense anger, and comes across as a different class of person than Kurt was. I don’t know what really happened, and I don’t think we’ll ever know for sure, but the two gems Kurt left behind were his music, and his lovely daughter, who seems to be more like her dad, and nothing like her mother. Sorry for the ramble. Death anniversaries are around the corner, and no matter how many years, it is very hard and very lonely sometimes.

Millions of people talking shit about you and your family and how bad you were to him, because they think so.
How willing are you to talk about it (again and again), just to satisfy the morbid curiosity of some stupid new fans? How willing are you to open your wounds (again and again), to ruin your grief and the memory of your loved one, just because some strangers on the other side of the world want to know the color of the socks he wore on Mondays?

I've heard two versions of turning down the Lollapalooza money. One is that she advised Kurt (pricelessly) that the Pumpkins were going to receive over 10 million if Kurt didn't do the tour, which would have been infuriating given the fact that she likely was sleeping with Billy Corgan while he was in Europe. This clip claims Courtney said she would gladly take his place, but didn't mention Corgan. That was about a month before he was found dead, so the sobbing at the funeral about how he should have stopped being a rock star (or waited until he was 40 to end it) was for show. Too bad that succubus came into his life and drained him, and likely had something to do with his "incident" that took his life. If he had only gotten the divorce he was planning and gotten out alive, he would probably still be around and could have lived life however he wanted to, and found a better woman. I've seen multiple docs on this and the truth will come out eventually, probably once a few of the people involved are gone.

Just her reading of the note is so suspicious. Trying to set expectations like “it’s more like a letter to the editor” … declaring “I don’t know what happened” … and then the weird, almost admission like “it was going to happen but it could have happened when he was 40.” She wanted him to be Sid Vicious. She wanted him to die a legend. And from all of the information out there, it seems like she was going to make sure it happened, one way or another.

My ex idolizes Kurt so much to the point that I believe, he wants to feel what he felt. He wanted to be just like him. He was in a band that played cover songs from the 90’s alternate era but never went anywhere. He would always talk about Kurt and knew everything about him. That was years ago while he was in highschool. For context, he is now 40. He didn’t get on drugs until his late 20’s. He was and probably is still obsessed with the 27 club. We have two kids together and we haven’t seen or heard from him going on 6 years. I left him after years of chances (we were together for 15 years since we were 16 & 17). I know he’s still alive as we live in the same county and I keep in touch with his sister. It’s just sad all around.

We all knew what he meant, whether someone took advantage of the expectation to bump him off with few to question it, perhaps. But it seemed like it was inevitable. My friends dad was a big independent music head, had subscriptions to a whole bunch of indie labels to receive their albums and had introduced us to Nirvana when we were 9, he knew a bunch if now legendary musicians in the 70s and 80s, these guys are gonna do something, then he wont be around long, you wait. Krist was a good friend and bro to Kurt seeing Courtney for what she was-an opportunist that saw Kurt's rising star and abandoned Billy Corgan without even ending the relationship. (Going back to him to produce an album after Kurt's death.) Regardless of what exactly happened I think Kurt was clearly making motions for a divorce after the joy of Francis' birth wore off. I still think Kurt we were robbed of some potentially fantastic music had Kurt and Kristen Pfaff got together. I think they both would have complimented the other and Kurt may very well have found the type of love he desperately sought his entire, tragically short life. Also in the Soaked in Bleach documentary they interviewed Dr. Cyril Wecht a highly respected forensic pathologist and he says that Cobain had enough heroin in his system would have been enough to kill 3-4 people. I remember when Nirvana was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame they booed the living hell out of Courtney. The Kurt and Courtney documentary was so rememberable because of Courtney trying to put a stop to it on top of the El Duce interview. I knew El Duce... I was partying with him drinking Tequila on New Years Eve 94/95 outside of Casbah Studio in the parking lot of the industrial strip where the studios were... He told me the same exact story after I told him that Kurt is/was my cousin. El Duce was a strange individual, a talented musician and performer (The Mentors)but was no more weird to me than any of the other colorful characters that hung around DVP Drum and Casbah Studio.... when he told me all this I really didn't believe him because we were both pretty lit... We were about 50 feet away from the railroad tracks that run through Fullerton parallel to Commonwealth Ave about a 1/4 mile from the Hunt Wesson plant... I still remember the stench of Worstershire Sauce that they bottled there and the odor was always in the air.. That night, New Years Eve, El Duce got pissed off at me for not believing what he told me and threw the mostly drank bottle of tequila at the train that came rumbling past and we went back inside the studio. He told me off in a tirade that was filled with the f word lol. Ironically that area of the train tracks are the same place that he laid down on the tracks and was run over by the train. Was it an accident by a drunk kinda weird guy who would lay on the tracks as a joke? Maybe. Because he was like that... a little crazy. Or did he do it because of his knowledge of Kurt's death? Or did he get drunk/high with someone while hanging out on the tracks and then dragged onto the tracks while he was passed out?
Duce was a talented musician... I saw him play live in the rehearsal studio and also saw him play his Moog Synthesizer... just jamming on it , switching patches and having fun. I had wanted one since they were invented and that was the first time I had seen one up close and how they worked. I was enthralled lol.
Anyway when Duce and I were talking that New Years Eve, I asked him if HE did it (offed Kurt) and he just gave me a weird sideways look and didn't answer.

@@michaelc3977 Sorry, who the fuck are you? 🤣
Firstly, I said severe seasonal depression, that is SAD. SAD is seasonal depression. So what's your point?
Secondly, I spent my teenage years and early twenties in and out of psychiatric facilities because my depression was so severe. This time last year was one of the worst depressive episodes I have ever had, and yes, this year I am alive and im writing. Though still do have seasonal depression. I didn't choose to have it, all I can do is find my own ways to deal with it until spring comes around again.
Now, depression itself does not impact the function of one's skills. You can be depressed and still write or type. You can be depressed and still work. You can be depressed and still smile. So why depression would have an impact on my ability to type in a RUclips comment section is unbeknownst to me. Of course depression impacts our executive functioning skills and our motivation for daily tasks/living, but that is entirely different than the baseline skill of being able to type words.
I have a BCS in psychology along with it being my main special interest. I am aware of what depression is and is not. I think maybe you should look into it a little more before you spew your very limited and contrived opinion.
Also, you've never met me. You read a 2 sentence RUclips comment by a young girls seasonal depression and Kurt Cobain obsession and you thought 'let me vomit my negative opinion towards her and bring her down a peg'. Thus, sir, indicating to me that you have many unaddressed issues with yourself+the world around you. You typed that comment as if you are the only person in the world who's ever been depressed, and it screams 'no one cares about me, so I'm going to be mean to other people'.
Yeah I am only in my mid twenties, and honestly it's been a tough fucking ride, but somehow I'm thankful. Thankful that I'm not a bitter, repressed, resentful old cunt scowering for negativity on the internet.
May you always get exactly what you deserve in this life ⭐

If he hadn’t taken himself out, we might not have anymore Nirvana records, but I imagine Kurt would have either done some solo stuff or really hunkered down and produced a bunch of art which would also have been cool.

I think he would've stepped away and had a quiet life maybe producing, I think he would be proud of Grohl. Kurt was already having memory issues with unplugged that's why they brought in Pat Smear, he was developing drug brain like Ozzy Osborne. If he was still alvie I think he would have many health issues.

Beethoven composed at the age of 12. Love Kurt but let's not go crazy.

I think there is reason enough to believe Nirvana would have stopped in 1994. Kurt had started to hate touring the amount they had to for In Utero. He had said no to a number of touring opportunities for the band earlier.
Most likely he wanted to continue in the Unplugged vein, and work with Michael Stipe. Kurt was a massive REM-fan, and occasionally perform live on his own terms

@@anitakephart3851He did. The only "evidence" came from grifter Tom Grant and it was all debunked almost instantly.
