THE KIBOS | ep 1 - welcome back home ♡

little backstory for those who are meeting the kibos for the first time! ↓↓
akira met mariela in san myshuno while they were living in the same building. at the time, mariela was pursuing her second degree and akira worked mostly as a dj and music producer, getting nightclub gigs and freelancing to pay his bills.
akira and his roommate (partner in crime) valarie began inviting mariela and her sister harmony to the parties they had at their apartment, and eventually all the parties, everywhere. fast forward some months, valarie moves in with harmony, and mariela moves in with akira as both of their relationships become more serious.
one day, in the month of mariela's graduation, akira gets a phone call from his father saying his mother's chronic illnesses are worsening. when akira first left mt. komorebi to pursue is dreams, he told his parents one thing, "if anything, and i mean anything happens to either of you, i will be back in an instant."
although it took him nearly 24 hours to break the news to the love of his life, mariela, he did--and off he was to mt. komorebi, leaving mariela alone in their san myshuno apartment as she rounded off the semester. as a graduation gift, akira's parents offered to pay for mariela to visit as a winterfest vacation. they did the best they could to make light of the situation and not keep akira from his life back in san myshuno for so long. mariela happily accepted and ultimately decided to extend her stay. she is one-fourth komorebian and enjoyed learning about a part of her that seemed rather foreign in her body.
while searching for jobs located in san myshuno, akira's father, yuta kibo, offered mariela a position at the company he worked for. he had worked there for his whole life so the company swiftly accpeted mariela. after some delibiration with akira, the two got themselves a small apartment and spent almost two years in mt. komorebi. after long days caring for emiko, akira's mother, and sleepless nights by her side in the hospital, she slowly began to recover. with this glimmer of hope that she would be able to leave the hospital for a little, akira and mariela hurried their marriage along so both of his parents could be there.
only a week after, both of his parents passed away, two days apart. this sent akira into a spiral, he put his life on pause to be there with his parents, and suddenly, the play button was hit without his permission. mariela took time off of work to help declutter the home akira grew up in, and it gave the couple lots of time to think. mariela put the idea of moving back to san myshuno up first, and it seems as though the statement, although simple, connected every dot for akira. his brain had become so clouded that he felt stuck in mt. komorebi. he dropped the box of belongings he had been packing to put in the attic and swung her into a hug.
mariela kisses his shoulder, "good idea?"
he laughs and sighs out of relief, he feels as though he can finally breathe again, "yes, yes!"
mariela holds him tighter, "is now a good time to tell you i am already in contact with our old landlord? she has a unit next door in that rooftop apartment we were always so jealous of." she says with a smile on her face.
