Uh no neither George W Carver's (Tuskegee scientists) & my dads Favorite Poem, "Equipment" "EQUIPMENT" by Edgar A. Guest was Dr. Carver's favorite poem; he can be heard reciting it at an audio station at the George Washington Carver Museum. Equipment
Figure it out for yourself, my lad,
You've all that the greatest of men have had,
Two arms, two hands, two legs, two eyes,
And a brain to use if you would be wise.
With this equipment they all began,
So start for the top and say "I can."
Look them over, the wise and great,
They take their food from a common plate
And similar knives and forks they use,
With similar laces they tie their shoes,
The world considers them brave and smart.
But you've all they had when they made their start.
You can triumph and come to skill,
You can be great if only you will,
You're well equipped for what fight you choose,
You have legs and arms and a brain to use,
And the man who has risen, great deeds to do
Began his life with no more than you.
You are the handicap you must face,
You are the one who must choose your place,
You must say where you want to go.
How much you will study the truth to know,
God has equipped you for life, But He
Lets you decide what you want to be.
Courage must come from the soul within,
The man must furnish the will to win,
So figure it out for yourself, my lad,
You were born with all that the great have had,
With your equipment they all began.
Get hold of yourself, and say: "I can."

@@theartyonko after the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln proposed reparations for the African Americans that were recently freed. It consisted of 40 acres of land and a mule. Ikr? He GOAT
wow... pen game crazy
Way way crazy
But Cole way better
@@kingphantom884 where were we talking about cole? Stop comparing all the time
To say “way better” is an absolute lie. JID is 100% a better lyricist than Cole, Cole is a better storyteller and songwriter tho
@@kingphantom884 Cole been rapping way longer and I’d say JID halfway there already
Cole wasnt cappin when he said "closest thing to me is J.I.D"
@JTR Hockey Productions I take that as you mean musically which is possible and being that cole is the guy he is he'd look at it as an achievement to have signed someone that ambitious. Regardless, he'll never feel personally that he surpassed cole ever because that man gave him a platform to further become even able to surpass cole. So I know what you mean and on a technical skill level yeah j.i.d is up there. But like Cole said years prior he wanted to sign Kendrick. J.i.d is in essence his second shot at that. Cole ain't thinking bout rapping in the same mind frame as he was when he was little Jermaine. He's going the same route his mentor showed him. Bigger business. Larger bridges. I'm excited to see how J.I.D defines himself moving forward though
@JTR Hockey Productions your right because kendrick never would have the same acclaim he has right now and he knew that. I always look at it like a basketball player playing for a team full of stars or choosing to do it dolo and become the star. Now of course kendrick had tde and black hippy and such but his star had more room to shine under punch and top who are the bosses not rappers also acting as bosses. That's actually the reason why the worst two people to sign to are drake and kanye. Especially drake superficially not because you wont eat and not because he doesnt take care of his team because his shadow is too gargantuan. Even without doing anything his popularity turns anyone around him into an afterthought and that's tough on any artist. But your right kendrick saw himself currently back then, so now hes afforded this position of being Cole's peer and competition as well Drake's peer and competition.
@JTR Hockey Productions You forgot about Cordae, who will be featured on JID's album. Kendrick is too talented to be signed to Cole in the first place, with everything he has achieved thus far into his career.
@JTR Hockey Productions man I LOVE jid and I think he's one of the most intriguing rappers out there, but don't do my boy Cole like that man lol. He's one of the greats of this era, with his legacy still building. He's gonna drop this year and we have all the reasons to assume it's gonna be one of his best, of not the best work he's ever released. All the power to Dreamville tho, and ofcourse Kdot as well
@@brayden141 jid no where near cole in my opinion. Not yet.
"Fuckin' on this lil bit-Queen i mean"
See now this....this is change this is substance that was beautiful what JID did there
It's even deeper, when you think about how the song he did with Rapsody, "Iman", had her calling him out when he rapped, "Behind every great man is a bad bit**, handlin' sh*t
". She, taking, a page from Queen Latifah said, "'Preciate your elegance JID, but bro, love, tell me, who the fu** you callin' a bit**?".
How that all ties in to his correction of bit** to Queen here, is just so fire. This is what I love about hip hop. Proper lyricism.

What happened in Tuskegee is no different than what Nazis did to Jewish people during the Holocaust. The difference is Germany reconciled with the crimes they committed the United States not so much.
I’m happy that it’s being taught in your classes, I grew up in Alabama and it took me getting a college education to learn about these atrocities. Kids should be learning about this stuff in middle school and high school but instead our education system tends to ignore this part of history.
@@kylechandler9711 I teach High School Science, and yes, this needs to be taught early on.
@@kylechandler9711 I just learned about this in my bioethics course dual enrollment. Most of my high school peers do not know about this and likely won't until their later lives. Yet, the atrocities of this study have lasting effects of outstanding proportions. "still 40 acres short''
legendary.
honestly just a beautiful track.
Someone r explain this to me please
So before the civil war, the families of those Black ppl who served in The war to be entitled to 40 acres of land and a mule so they can support the family. In the 1800s that was the perfect set up for a comfortable life but unfortunately after Lincoln got killed, his Vice President Andrew Johnson changed this and never gave African Americans their 40 acres. And jid is on a sports scheme talking about playing like Jordan, and “running for a million yards” which is a reference to football, so he’s saying even if you break all the rushing yard records, you’re still 40 acres short of what you’re entitled to. And “yards” are a unit of measurement on land in this context, and the slaves were owed 40 acres of land. So there’s the wordplay with it
"Learn your roots and who you rooting for" -Soul . this quote fits, song is fye! IV

JID
[Intro: JID]
(See the storm)
Yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah, uh
(Over there)
Yeah-yeah, uh
(Here it comes)
Fuck, check, dawg
[Verse 1: JID]
Take a chance, have faith, my lad
You got all of the same tools all the greats have had
Two eyes, two ears, one mouth, two hands
You can watch, listen more than you speak, take advantage
You peep all the karma that come with makin' the cream
The crop, full of demons providin' you what you need
They got, what's your thing? Alcohol or the lean?
Put the coke inside the weed, them niggas seasonin' the greens
Rap game turned from the slingers to the fiends
But I'm in between, I mean
I ain't pickin' teams but I had a dream like King
Fuckin' on this pretty little bi-, queen, I mean
Point me to the cheese, niggas talkin' cream
Park the car, I'm 'bout to part the seas
And move a mountain for money, nothing keepin' me
From gettin' to you, gettin' to me, Marvin G, Tammi T
But get your eyes cleaned for something you have never not, not seen
[Bridge: JID]
Okay, well
Prior to coming to Tuskegee (Uh)
From high school I went to college here, then Tuskegee Institute
While in college I had a professor that I really impressed with
He got me interested into politics
He was the first black (Uh) councilman in the city of Tuskegee (Check)
[Verse 2: JID]
Take a chance, have faith, my lad
You got all of the same tools all the greats have had
Maybe lesser than that
Way back when I was puttin' on my football hat
This institution came recruitin' little Route for the stats
They sat me in a room with my dad
And it was cool but when they left I was glad
And my pops was too, he said that's good-ass parenting
Reminding me 'bout that school that did them nigga experiments
On them black people, sharecroppers, down in Alabama, damn
It's not that far from Atlanta, it was the 1930s
They did them black folks dirty because a tan
A man was not a man, nigga, your granny wasn't grand
A scam into the plan to go recruit a group of stupid niggas
And shoot them up with syphilis instead of shoot to kill 'em
That's stupid different
The lengths that y'all trip to catch a nigga slippin' and what for?
'Cause we look different?
[Bridge]
Everyone with knowledge of that study (Let us keep rockin' this shit)
Would be terrified
But that study represents and demonstrated
The inhumanity of man to mankind (Yeah, yeah, yeah, ah, fuck)
I often say that
Look
[Verse 3: JID]
Take a chance, have faith, you in last place
Take a stand but don't take the stand for your man's sake
Just a dad tryna put some ham on a damn plate
I'll be damned, I don't feed the fam, nigga (Damn straight)
Elbow rubs and handshakes
From hands that tied roped on necks in red states
Another dead black-ass man, I need a damn break
They never gave us a chance, I had to take it
I need all the payments, for every day we suffered all the hatred
I want my granny to shoot the hands with Nancy Reagan
I want emancipation
Standin' naked at the auction with my dick out, hanging for reparations
No matter how much I say it, they ain't hearin' my voice
'Cause as long as them crackers payin' you ain't much of a choice
And you can shoot a million Jays, you'll prolly never be Jordan
Niggas ran for a million yards, you still forty acres short
[Outro]
See the storm
Over there
Here it comes
Thank you for this

This is great material. This is generational quality. Something that'll stand the test of time. Almost everything JID does is top tier.
