If they can't cut their hair except during periods of national mourning, how do they manage the side pieces on the cheeks? They surely have to be trimmed regularly..
Maybe people died all the time cuz it was that time with not much of knowledge about the disease ( But Chinese medicine were better than Western ) so they had so many opportunities
