You've shown me some technics that I've never seen before. Thank you for sharing. This is just a tip for anyone who doesnt have the backing material. Some times I use regular felt. All I do is paint my felt with a mixture of white pva glue and water. Add the mixture thinly and evenly. Then let it dry and it will stiffen up. I found that it works pretty good.
This is probably the best bead embroidery tutorial I've come across. Your work is very clean and I like the tips of how to get the beads to form around the cab a little more smoothly. It looks very professional! Thank you!
I’ve just started my beading journey in the last 6 months or so. Your tutorial has been very helpful with a few things that I’ve been struggling to do. Thank you for sharing your expertise!
I remember seeing a video where a woman said it helps a lot to trim the corners of the felt that your going to be working on. So instead of it being a square, its circular. That way while your sewing, you’re not constantly getting your thread caught on the edges.
Thank you so much! I have zero embroidery experience so I bought a "beginner kit" and was completely lost! This video is the first of yours I've watched but I will be watching them all! You rock!
Please tell me you're going to do more bead embroidery videos---its so easy to follow you, you give great insight into the process i.e. reasons and your experience, and overall your great videos are a viewer's pleasure--and not all you tube videos are--so kudos my friend!
Hi Elysia, I have all kinds of plans for this year -- wire weaving, beading stitches, beading projects and....bead embroidery! :D Thanks so much for your kind comments -- they mean a lot to me!
Awesome I’m really looking forward to this, and I just your video, I just love ❤️ doing all of those ( bead embroidery, wire weaving, beading stitches, beading project etc etc , sure be looking forward to your videos
Thank you! I’ve definitely enjoyed your video, especially because I embroidering around a PC bead that my husband made and every video I’ve seen shows using tiny Delicas. I just can’t see those tiny beads anymore an was getting frustrated with them. Thank you for showing me that there is no ‘golden rule’ about having to start with delicas. 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hi Gloria, it so nice that your husband made you a bead, and now you can have fun embroidering it! Thanks so much for watching the video, and also for leaving the comment. :)
These are quite beautiful!, i usually dont like the white of the backing showing through, so i give it a light wash of color with some acrylic paint, and let it dry. or markers to match the beads and cabs.
+Marisol Catts Thanks for sharing the idea! I bought a lot of colored embroidery backing some time ago, but I will use your idea when I run out of what I have. Happy beading!
This is awesome and easy to follow. I have seen this kind of jewelry before but I had no idea how it was done. Considering the amazing results it seems the actual process is pretty simple. I can do this!!! I have collected beads for a very long time, mostly because they are pretty. I have a ton of them but haven't done much with them. I am SO going to try this! I also have a rock collection I think I can encorporate. Thank you so very very much for these explainations!!
Loved this tutorial. I would have liked to see hiw you attached the dangling beads.( seen the vacuum if the finished product I mean) I willcsubscrive and view your other videos. Thanks for sharing your skill and artistry
Amazing tutorial, THX!! Can you tell me if you just beaded the different components together (last piece) or you still used some backing and ultra suede behind. Dominique
HI Gail: so happy I finally found a tutorial that I understand; your instructions are most concise! I am new to beaded cabs and wondered if it is possible to use pearls( I am a lover of pearls) along the outer edge of the cab (as the last round)? Apparently none of the other sites use pearls along with seed beads. I welcome your thoughts or words of advice. Thank you!
+Carole Rosario Hi! Certainly you can use pearls just about anywhere with bead embroidery. While I wouldn't use them as the brick stitch portion, they could certainly be an embellishment to the brick stitch edging. But there really aren't any rules with bead embroidery except one -- just have a good time!
Thanks for the great step by step. You have made some beautiful pieces. One question, please...do you join the components via the beads, the backing or both?
+Sara Jane Haven Hi -- thanks for the question. The answer is, "it depends". It mainly depends on the project -- for example, the bracelet I showed in the video is connected component-to-component. However, I've also had projects where I've placed several components on another piece of backing, and "filled in" in between with other beads.
thank you made the embroidery process so much easier to understand. Could you take the components and lay them out on a larger piece of stiff stuff and then embroidery around each component to make a bib like design?
Question: during or once the bead cab is framed, how do I add loops, anchors, bails? Is there a technique to securely add a wire or more solid loop or bail?😁
Thanks for your videos. Love the start of your neck piece. How did you stitch them together? I'm guessing there's no backing and beads are just sewn to two components - like how you add a bail?
What a beautiful tutorial! You made such pretty cabs! As for questions.... I haven't read down.....how do/did you connect the components to make, say,the bracelet? Thank you so much for your generous sharing of your talent xxxx
Hi Faye, I really need to do a video at some point on the connections. I do have an ebook tutorial for a project that does connect some component, though, if you are interested. www.beadedjewelrydiva.com/tutorials/bead-embroidery-bracelets-tutorial-1/
Hi April, I don't have a video specifically for turning bead embroidery into a necklace (although I'll put it on my list of videos to do). I do have an e-book tutorial that has projects in it, if you are interested: www.beadedjewelrydiva.com/tutorials/intro-to-bead-embroidery-components-tutorial/
Wowee how would we price stuff we make that are time consuming and super relaxing? I so love your tutorial and Gail I’m going to subscribe! Plus I liked and shared on Facebook and looking forward to learning from you all the way from Duncan B.C.
I do have one question though. It looks like you embroider each cabochon individually and then connect them, rather than embroidering them all to the same piece of felt, even for the larger pieces? If this is true, do you have videos on how you connect your embroidered pieces for the bigger pieces like the lovely necklace you're making? Thanks!
Hi Hannah, I've actually done it both ways -- lay out everything on one piece of backing and embroider that, as well as attaching them to each other afterwards. I have also arranged finished pieces on a piece of backing and connected them that way. I do have some ebooks on attaching them separately -- www.beadedjewelrydiva.com/project-tutorials-for-jewelry/ -- but I'll have to do a video at some point with basic linkages. Thanks for the question!
G'Day and Happy New Year from Down Under, Loved this video and found it very helpful to me as I am starting to do (my first attempt at) a piece myself. I have only seen the peyote stitch done to attach stones e.t.c. It gives it a lovely look and I might combine both methods for my piece. I have a question to ask. I am finding it very hard to find the ultra suede for the backing and it is to costly to buy from over seas for me (I am on a limited budget) and I was wondering if there is some thing that I can use instead of the suede. Looking forward to hearing from you. Blessings....
+Chris Phillips Hi, and thanks for your sweet message. :) For your backing, if you can't come by some ultrasuede, you need to find some sort of fabric that doesn't fray. You might need to go to a fabric store to check some out. A possibility might be some microfiber material. Another option would be to back a fabric that is moderately fray-free with some sort of ultra-light iron-on fusible backing. You'll probably have to get a little creative, but it can be done!
+Beaded Jewelry Diva Thanks for helping me out and I was thinking could I use some of the stiff felt that I used to attach the beads with. It might not have the same professional look as when the suede or leather is used but at least I can still do it. I will look and see if I can buy some microfiber. Thanks once again it's always good to know that there's always some one to lend a helping hand in particular when you are just starting out with a new project. Hear from you soon........
+Amanda Shea We must have read each others minds! I was just thinking that I should do another bead embroidery ebook, and I couldn't decide between edgings and stitch types. Edging it is! :) Thanks so much, Amanda.

Thank you, Gail! You created this tutorial way back in 2016, so I don't know if you're seeing comments after all that time. Just wanted to say that your bead embroidery tutorial is great! I have always been intimidated by the idea of seed bead embroidery. I so like that you kept this straightforward and basic for a beginner. You demonstrate how even basic beading around a cabochon makes it so much more beautiful. I look forward to watching more of your RUclips videos! Thank you!❤
Amazing tutorial Gail. I have not tried the embroidery Beading yet but now I am definitely going to try it. you make it look so easy (which I know it's not) and fun to do. I can't wait to get started. look forward to seeing more of your tutorials.
I love the tutorial so much. I am new to this and one thing I will have to search is the brick stitch since it didn’t show more for me to get it 😢 but I am sure I will get it after a few tries. On the edging is just passing needs from bead to bead already set right ? Thank you so much for this great tutorial.
This is a great tutorial, thank you!! I'm just starting bead embroidery and I want to create necklaces with the components. Do you know how to link components with metal jump rings? Thanks!
Sure, you can do it a couple of different ways, but the way I use most often is to sew a closed jump ring into the components before I put on the final backing -- you need to have the jump ring peeking over the edge of the component. Then you can use open jump rings to connect the components. :)

Such beautiful work! I would like to know how to make these components into earrings, on posts & using fish hook findings.
Outstanding tutorial.
Hi Arthur, thanks so much for your kind words! :)
When you add the components and make neck piece what are you using for the back.
HI Gail: so happy I finally found a tutorial that I understand; your instructions are most concise! Wonderful!!!
Great tutorial. I look forward to a tutorial on attaching a group of cabochons to make a design.

Hi Penny, yes you can! In fact, I think it's the easiest way to make a larger project like a bib or "important" necklace.
Wonderful ❤

Thank you that was very helpful 🙏😀
Awesome help!!!
Thank you! ❤️💯👍
Gale youre great! Thank you! How fun
Will be watching more.. great job
I have a lot of kunin eco felt (stiff stuff made from recycled plastic bottles). Could I use that? Thanks 😊
I use thin felt for my backing, its cheaper and feels nice on the skin
Could you please tell how to thread a 10 or 12 sharp needle using waxed thread
great tutorial! thank you :)
+Verchiel Jewellery You are very welcome. :)
Thanks for your videos. Love the start of your neck piece. How did you stitch them together? I'm guessing there's no backing and beads are just sewn to two components - like how you add a bail?

Thank you for the tutorial. Would you recommend I use the E6000 glue to glue the completed cabochons to leather or something else?
Hi! I pretty much just use the E6000 glue -- I've tried a few, and I always come back to E6000.
Wowee how would we price stuff we make that are time consuming and super relaxing? I so love your tutorial and Gail I’m going to subscribe! Plus I liked and shared on Facebook and looking forward to learning from you all the way from Duncan B.C.

Thank you for tutorial. Can you please turn around your neck piece that we can see how are conected together. Thank you.
Hi Maja -- I'll see about putting something on my website with the reverse side.
What does the back of the neck piece look like? Do you add another backing after you have joined the components?
+LilAnnieOk Thanks for the question! Yes, I did add another backing to the neckpiece, so it looks like all one unit.
Beautiful! Thank you.

I have looked all over for the ultra suede light weight. Joann fabrics looked at me like I had 6 heads and they don't sell it at michaels or ac moore. Please PLEASE HELP
Hi April -- Etsy is the best source I have found for the lightweight ultra suede. Try www.etsy.com/shop/suedeshop -- it's been my favorite supplier so far.
Thanks Gayle
Just found your channel because I want to learn how to bead like this:) Thanks for a great tutorial for a beginner. I just subscribed to your channel:) Hugs, Judy ❤️
Gorgeous
Do a piece, or pieces, beading around small mirrors, either rounds, ovals or squares which could also be diamonds. Please and thanks!
Hi Theresa, that's a very interesting idea! Next time I go supply shopping, I'll have to keep an eye out for some small mirrors! :D
Great tutorial. Thank you sharing. Ps: You made me lol when you said "wacky" instead of "wonky".
