    I’m 35 now but used to go down to Edwinstowe in the late ‘90s during the summer holidays to my aunties and would regularly go to the forest, brought back good memories watching this. Hey Patrick loved the walk trough the forest ( Robin hood Robin hood riding through the glen lol). The big old oak tree reminds me of one that is in Canterbury by the river its got a very short fat trunk i forget how many years old it is, bet it could tell a few stories. I found your video very relaxing with your lovely music, now going to have a 10 mins cat nap to recharge my batteries to go out with my friends for dinner to celebrate my Birthday today. Have a good weekend best wishes Jean :)

    Liked your introductory clip. Looking very sunny. Not heard of Edwinstowe or Budby before, but interesting to learn more about areas. Some lovely scenes in your film. I noted the medieval music in keeping with the Robin Hood era. I think the lens cleaning worked well. Very clear pictures, but your camera certainly looked poorly all bandaged up! Much enjoyed your walk and that ancient tree.

      Morning Shanita, glad you liked my little introduction. It was indeed nice sunny afternoon when I shot this. Pleasant walk in a different area for a change. The Major Oak is quite a sight isn't it. Glad you spotted the medieval music! 😊 Yeah at least the camera still works fine despite the issue with fixing it to the tripod now. Fab video Patrick. I only live about 15 minutes drive from Edwinstowe but like you don’t visit Sherwood Forest as often as I should do. It’s a lovely walk around that forest isn’t and we often take the Major Oak for granted. People all over the world come to visit it thanks to the legend that is Robin Hood. There are some great woodland walks in and around the forest that’s for sure. Liking the DIY job on the camera and tripod. I must admit that I didn’t notice the smear on the lens on your last video so it certainly didn’t spoil the footage from the viewers perspective

    • @solitaryrambler
      @solitaryrambler  2 года назад

      Thanks for that Anthony, much appreciated. I was pleasantly surprised as to how nice this walk was, especially around Budby South Forest and the Major Oak. I've done a walk around Sherwood Pines before now and Rufford Abbey, but that's about it really. That DIY job on my camera and tripod is great isn't it! 😂 The damage occurred when I was shooting one of the Chatsworth videos, and I put the gaffer tape in my rucksack on my Birchen Edge walk, so all the work was done near the start of that walk as the camera came off again! I've redone it now back at home and it's a lot tidier, so we'll see how it holds! Thanks Anthony for watching and commenting 👍

    There used to be a log hut in the forest pre Ww2 it was known as the Russian Log hut and was said to be built without nails . I am not certain what happened to it .We used to enter Sherwood from Bradmer Hill entrance a few miles towards Mansfield past the Archway .We used to gather sweet chestnuts in autumn Walking through the dried leaves and finding the chestnuts on the ground. It was occupied by military during the war .We had a very large rhubarb bed and the soldiers brought a truck to cut the rhubarb . I remember as alittle girl the officer saying how grateful his men would be to have something fresh. Later after the militay left a friend and I rode our bikes through the forest , we found a bag of gelignite and pedalled with it to the local police station!!!

The heathland was superb and I bet you get a few Nightjars nesting there in the summer. Only thing missing was the Lincoln green tights, that I assume you left at home😂😂😂😂😂😂. Oh My England... !! Well as teenagers on out motor bikes we use to go to Sherwood and the major Oak from Nottingham. ... New Basford .. then in 1968 I emigrated by myself to Australia..after six years here in 1974 I returned a married man. to Nottingham.after leaning in Australia that there was a interest there in English antiques . I. chatted. to. my. sister about an ol'de painting she had bought in a junk shop in he mid 60s.I ask her what have you done with it ..? nothing she said. . so i asked can i buy it from you .she said. .. you can have it for. your. birthday ..later that year 1974 I returned to Sydney .. and arranged. for the painting to follow me .
    The. panting. is 85X55 cm. oil on canvas painted by W.O.Trivet 1898 of. the major Oak of Sherwood in a huge gold gilded frame this year. 2023. i had it cleaned restored and re-varnished by an. art restoration specialist (not easy to. find) here on the Gold. Coast Queensland and now it hangs proudly for all. to see.Its a magnificent piece of art so. to "Oh my England"...Thank you for reading my comment..

    I'm a bit late to comment this week Patrick. Sherwood forest used to run all the way up to Lincoln in its day. Sadly although still relatively large it's nowhere near the size that it was. I think you're right about robin hood never being filmed there. I do recall kevin costners waterfall scene being filmed along the pennine way though. Nice tranquil walk this time out so thanks for taking us along too. Glad you enjoyed your friends wedding, a bit of normality coming back. Look after yourself. ps that old robin hood series was fantastic

      Hi Kelly, yes I gather Sherwood was a lot bigger in its day. I remember seeing Robin Hood Prince of Thieves in the cinema when it came out in 1991, so you're right about the waterfall scene. Some of it was shot around Hadrian's Wall too. It was very nice to see lots of people again at Dean's wedding, so yeah the normality is slowly returning. Take care too Kelly and thanks for watching as always👍

      @@WyeExplorer Morning Mark, yeah it's funny how different locations are used in filming TV series and films. I believe some of Robin of Sherwood was actually filmed in the Forest of Dean. I know most of it was filmed in Leigh Woods just outside Bristol, where the TV production company were based. My camera's had a redressing of the gaffer tape now, much better and tidier. It's still working that's the main thing. That oak is amazing isn't it. I too can imagine Robin and his merry men underneath that. Thanks for watching Mark. Have a great week too 👍

      @@solitaryrambler Hi Patrick, yeah let's face it one wood is much like another so film makers can create the idea at least. Good to hear of the camera - it speaks of the robust walking Patrick. That's a few stripes right there. Ha ha! Yeah, an awesome Oak, which they would have enjoyed. A pleasure as always.
